Malawi Puzzle: White to move and force a win. Can you spot the breakthrough? (Interactive link inside)

Hi everyone,

To showcase the tactical depth of the abstract classic Malawi, I’ve started a tactical puzzle series!

Position:

  • White's turn.
  • There is a forced line to secure a winning position / capture the baseline.

🧠 Try to solve it directly in your browser:

(For Android players: You can also soon import these puzzle setups directly into the app's analysis mode!)

Added Browser AI (WASM) to the digital adaptation of Malawi

Hi everyone,

A few weeks ago, I implemented my digital adaptation of the 1986 abstract strategy game Malawi (designed by Gerhard E. Kodys).

Based on community feedback, I’ve just released a major update to the web version: You can now play against the Easy AI directly in your browser (via WebAssembly) without installing anything or needing a local player 2.

🎲 Try the Browser AI demo:https://anddisa.de/malawi/

📱 Native Android App (Google Play): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.anddisa.malawi.free

Key Updates & Features:

  • Zero-Friction Web Demo: Play 2-Player or vs. AI instantly on PC/Mac/iOS/Android via WASM.
  • Android App: Features higher AI difficulty levels (Alpha-Beta engine), threat analysis, and a board editor.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the AI's playstyle!

The Malawi board game now playable online without installation

I just published an update of my digital version of the "Malawi" board game, especially I improved the AI to play much more intelligent.
It's a pure strategic game and I’d love to hear your feedback on the UI, the overall game feel, or how you handle IAP conversion in and indie board game.

Digitale Version von „Malawi“ für Android – Ein Stück Brettspiel-Geschichte als Herzensprojekt

Hallo zusammen,

[Android] Digital adaptation of "Malawi" – a 1986 abstract tactical shortlist nominee for "Spiel des Jahres"

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a passion project I’ve been working on that should resonate with lovers of pure abstract strategy games.

Back in 1986, an Austrian game designer named Gerhard Kodys released Malawi, a minimalist, fully deterministic tactical board game. It was even honored on the prestigious "Spiel des Jahres" shortlist back then. With the 40th anniversary coming up, I spent my spare time bringing this hidden gem to Android.

Why abstract strategy fans might enjoy it:

  • 🧠 Pure Strategy: Zero luck, no dice, no hidden information. It’s a pure battle of positional tactics and piece movement.
  • Fast & Deep: Easy to learn the rules in a minute, but offers a surprising amount of depth.
  • 🤖 Solo & Local Play: Features a custom-built AI with multiple difficulty levels, as well as local pass-and-play.
  • 🛠️ Tools for Analytical Players: Includes a built-in Board Editor to test specific scenarios and an Analysis Mode to review matches.

Since I built this as a tribute to classic game design, the core game is 100% free to play without any pay-to-win mechanics or timers.

If you want to try it out or read more about the project, you can find the store links and details here: 👉 Project Page:https://anddisa.de/malawi

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the tactical balance or the AI behavior if you give it a spin!

[Android] I just revived a 40-year-old tactical board game classic on mobile. No pay-to-win, no subscriptions. Just pure strategy.

Hi everyone,

If you are tired of the endless wave of mobile games filled with timers, pay-to-win mechanics, and aggressive ads, I might have something for you.

I just officially launched Malawi on Android.

It is a digital adaptation of a minimalist, abstract tactical board game that was actually honored on the prestigious German "Spiel des Jahres 1986" shortlist exactly 40 years ago. It’s a pure battle of wits—no dice, no random luck, just perfect information strategy (easy to learn, tough to master).

Why it stands out from the usual mobile game noise:

  • 🛡️ 100% Core Gameplay Free: The entire main game and all rules are completely free to play.
  • 🚫 Strictly Anti-Pay-to-Win: No energy bars, no buyable advantages. Pure skill determines the winner.
  • 💎 Optional PRO Upgrade: A single, fair one-time in-app purchase permanently removes ads and unlocks a full Board Editor and an Analysis Mode for hardcore players.

I spent the last few weeks polishing the UI, cleaning up the menus, and making sure it runs beautifully on modern screens.

If you want to check out the story, the screenshots, or try the game, you can find everything on my clean project page: 👉 Website & Link:https://anddisa.de/malawi

Would love to hear your thoughts on the tactical AI or the interface design!
