Coil zipper advice for first project

I’m working on my first sewing project, a frame bag for my bicycle! I purchased a 1 yard coil zipper that I cut, which didn’t have a metal stopper on either end. I believe my next steps are: (1) prevent the slider from going off the tracks, (2) sew the zipper to the panels, and then (3) overstitch.

I think I should sew a bit of fabric onto the ends to stop the slider from going off the tracks (pictures 2 and 3). Can I sew this with my machine or should I do it by hand? I’m using a brother CS6000i and so far it has not been sewing smoothly for this project.

Prescription and non-prescription cycling glasses?

Sometimes I bike while wearing contact lenses, and other times I don’t wear my contact lenses and bring my glasses. However, my glasses slip down when I ride my bike (I have a low nose bridge).

Is there such thing as prescription cycling glasses that also come with non-prescription lenses, for the times I want to wear my contact lenses?

Seattle to Mount Vernon with Bicycle

Hi, I see that Amtrak Cascades and Connecting Bus both offer routes from Seattle, WA to Mount Vernon, WA. They both allow bicycles as an add on. Does this mean that they both offer options for bringing your bicycle on (not packing it in a box)?

Beginner clipless shoes

Does anyone have any suggestions for SPD (not SPD-SL) shoes, especially with decent grip on the bottom for when the ground might be more slippery in the rain? I’m new to clipless and have only tried SPD-SL, and I didn’t like it / definitely prefer something more recessed.

I saw a new pair of Specialized Recon 1.0 shoes in my size on FB marketplace for $40, was wondering if something like that would work. Thanks!!

Derailleur options for bigger hills

I’m looking to make an upgrade to my bike to make commuting in a hilly city easier. I’m thinking a 11-32 cassette!

My bike is a 2006 Jamis Quest with the following:
- 10 speed shifters labeled “ultegra”
- 50/34 crankset
- 10 speed rear derailleur is short cage and labeled “ultegra”
- 11/25 10 speed cassette

Cost isn’t so much of an issue because bike was bought used and very affordable. It’s my smoothest and most reliable bike so far and I’m hoping not to compromise too much on smooth shifting, so I’m also willing to spend more on an upgrade that will be super reliable.

Hi everyone, I mostly bike for city commuting (~20 mile rides) but would love to get into longer rides. I recently got some great advice here for chamois, which helped, but I’m still feeling a lot of pressure from the nose of my saddle (currently Terry Liberator X Gel). Any advice for saddles to try for an outie?

I’m experiencing a lot of pressure on my labia while riding, and the only padded bike shorts that I have are Bellwether shorts that have padding like this. It seems to make the pressure worse. Can anyone recommend other shorts for me to try? Or chamois liners so I can wear them under other pants when commuting?
