Purchase advice GTI 2019 7.5 low mileage - EU market

Hey guys,

I would appreciate some advice, I have mechanical knowledge and experience with buying a couple of used cars but have no experience with VW or Golf.

There's a 2019 (2020 model year) 5-door GTI in Italy sold because the original owner passed away. The car is in great condition a few small dents and scratches, the mileage is low around 20,000 km with no mods and a sunroof.

I have the official VW service history and car was serviced regularly following VW schedule. I phoned directly the local VW and they told me the car is in excellent condition and the owner didn’t drive it much.

The price, after negotiation, is 23,500 euros. The rear tires need to be replaced, and the AC probably needs to be recharged because it’s a bit weak but still works.

Do you guys think it is a good deal in terms of price and the car itself? I have a hard time comparing to similar cars because of the low mileage. I’ve also noticed that GTIs from the same years with higher mileage generate more views and “likes” on used car websites. What’s the reason for that—do people distrust cars with low mileage? I’m just wondering about potential resale value in 3–5 years, since I don’t drive that much either (around 5k year).

I realize every national market is different but I've seen some similar cars in Germany, where prices are lower, going for 23-24k with less options and more miles. What I really like is the full maintenance history and the low mileage.

Any advice and thoughts? I am scared as have never spent this much for a car!

Verifica storico VW usata

Ciao a tutti,

Grazie dell'ascolto

MK 7.5 2019 AC weak

Hey guys,

I would like to buy a 2019 GTI with only 18,000 km on it, I have the service history. It's been serviced every year by VW, regular oil changes and everything.

The only problem with it is the AC blows cold air but not super cold. I set it at 17 degrees (C) and it's just not that cold. I am familiar with A/C system as I have installed some home units, so I think it's a leak, so maybe some of the joints have gone bad. But why would this happen in such a recent car?

Does the MK7/7.5 have known issues with A/C refrigerant leaks?

I need to decide on this rather quickly so any feedback is highly appreciated.

TIA

Does the GTI hold value better than the GTE

Hey folks,

I am in the market for a used Golf and considering both GTI and GTE. I am located in Europe and my impression is that the GTE loses value more quickly than the GTI but I don't have any hard statistics on hand. I'd rather spend a bit more and buy a vehicle that holds better its value.

Does anyone have any insights on this? Is this a current trend because sports ICE cars will become more and more rare? Or simply because the GTE follow EV trends that tend to lose value more quickly than ICE?

Curious to hear your thoughts!

GTE reliability and years to avoid for used purchase

Hi All,

I am interested in buying a GTE, I've been seeing lots for sale at somewhat reasonable prices in western Europe. I even found a 2020 with 60 000 km at 16k euros but had a grounding problem so I let it go as I didn't want to take any risk.

I've spent times reading through forums and have found some recurring problems particularly related to the electronics but again we might just hear from people having problems than the ones not having them. Does anyone have any real statistics on the reliability of the GTE? Are there any years that are better than others?

Any insights would be extremely useful. Thanks in advance.

Advice for buying used Forza 125 - differences between years?

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the advice on my scooter search. I have decided on the Forza and have seen a few used one on the local market, less than 10,000 km from 2022-2025.

Can some one please provide some guidance on what should be looked at when buying a used Forza, aside from obvious general state, tires, brakes, starter?

Is there much difference between the years 2022-2025 or any important/useful feature in the newer models? Is it true that 2022 was the last year that could reach 130 km/h?

Is it preferable an older but with lower mileage or more recent with more miles?

Any advice is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance

125cc buying advice - comfortable ride for two

Hey guys,

Long-time 50cc rider but have been out of the market and looking to get back into it. I would appreciate some advice. The scooter will be used for running errands, park easily in the city center, but also for weekend trips, maybe around 80-100 km in a day with some of it on the highway. It needs to be comfortable for two people, I am tall 188 cm (6'2") but thin. It's hilly where I live, so that's to consider, but it's not cold so I don't need any cold-related features. Here's my wish list:

- 125cc with some safety features (ABS, traction control, etc.), seat not too tall (my partner wants to use it as well)

- Good room under seat (I might add a top case if needed)

- Easy to park and get around cars, quiet, and low consumption

I was considering electric scooters but it seem they are not there yet in terms of reliability, or are really expensive. So the Honda lineup looks the most interesting Forza, SHi, PCX but also the Medley. I think the Forza has most of what I need but is bulkier to park and maybe a steeper learning curve for my partner who is afraid of the weight and size. The large foot rest of the SHi/Medley looks more comfortable and allows to move the legs around a bit on long rides.

Is there any other particular model I am missing? Any feedback from someone with experience and similar needs would be greatly appreciated!

C3 phase I auto - intermittent start problem

Dear All,

I have a 2008 C3 1.4 l, automatic gear with that weird start system where the alternator and starter for the start&stop are on the same pulley.

I have been experiencing intermittent problems, particularly in the summer, where the starter doesn't start at all unless I disconnect and reconnect the battery. The battery voltage at rest is 12.6v and while running is 14.9v, the battery is from 2011 so not that old. If the battery was dead it wouldn't start at all, so I don't understand what the problem might be. What I noticed is when I insert and turn the key quickly the car almost always starts, instead if I turn into the ignition position and wait until the dashboard lights clear the starter doesn't run. It seems some check goes wrong and stops the starter?

Someone with some experience on these cars suggested that the problem is not the battery but rather the tension of the starter belt which is low and triggers the ECU to cut off electronically the starter. I wonder if the heat might somewhat make the belt looser, which would explain why I get this more in the summer. I am also not getting any fault codes from the OBDII port, I have one of those BT dongles, nothing advanced. Also not sure if the codes are lost if the battery is disconnected.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? I wouldn't want to spend on a new battery if it's not the problem since the current seems to be in good conditions.

Many thanks in advance!

Pre 2000s animes merchandise and culture in Tokyo?

Hey folks,

I am a big anime fan but of the "old" generation, think 80s through 2000s. I visited some of the locations suggested here including the animate flagship store, of which I found nothing interesting, and the anime Tokyo Station which had two exhibits of more recent stuff.

I am looking to learn more about the older animes and buy some memorabilia such as posters or drawings, etc. Think about all the robots, tiger man, captain tsubasa, saint seya, samurais, etc.

The Toei Animation Museum is on my list and the Tsubasa park looks cool as well. But where else can I find interesting places about older animes in and around Tokyo? All the stores I visited mainly have mainstream modern stuff, makes sense of course.

What I really enjoyed was the toy museum in Gunma, that was really interesting.

Any ideas?
