Would you buy a cheaper boat with cash, or finance a nicer boat?

Hello! My girlfriend and I are beginning our boat shopping and I'm curious what y'all experienced sailors think about our possible budget options.

We got our RYA Day Skipper certs and decided this is a lifestyle we want to pursue. We sold almost everything and moved to Florida to start looking for our new home on the water. We're looking at 35-40ft monohulls.

I was originally planning a budget of roughly $60k USD, which will still leave me with a healthy maintenance/upgrade budget to get it ready for cruising. However, now I'm wondering if it would be prudent to finance a $150k boat that's a little newer and needs a little less work. I'll still be working my full time software job and would be able to pay it off within a couple of years.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

6 years later

It's been about 6 years since I was raped and my PTSD developed into severe panic attacks and agoraphobia.

6 years since I've felt normal. 6 years of being terrified to even get my own mail. 6 years of feeling like I'm on house arrest even though I'm the victim.

Tomorrow, I'm moving. Tomorrow I'm leaving this shitty town and all this trauma behind me. I am not ready. I am freaking the fuck out. I am going anyway. As my therapist says, if you wait until you're 100% ready for something, you'll never do anything. It's been a long, lonely, depressing 6 years but I've made so much progress.

Tomorrow I start my search for a sailboat. I'm going to see the world if I have to drag my house with me. I'm done being a prisoner of my own mind.

This community has been so supportive and helpful during these years. I hope you all can make some progress today too.

How does everyone ride with their pets?

Hello!

I recently purchased a couple Velotric Fold One Plus' for my girlfriend and I. We're trying to find the best way to safely bring our dog. He's about 25lbs and fits ok in a 13x18" basket. However, it's not super secure. I'm curious how everyone else rides with their pets? Any tips, tricks, and recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

Requiring Two stations to automate vehicles is really disappointing to me

1.2 is awesome and the vehicle rework is amazing. However, one of my favorite things to do is plop a train down, set it to a station, then go afk for a minute or two while I transit. I've started a new save with random nodes and I'm using vehicles a ton. I just wish I could afk-autopilot to my auxiliary factories

Permanent Address and Mail while living nomadically?

Hello! Sorry, posting this to a couple subreddits for visibility. Hope this is alright. Even though I'm not planning on an RV I think y'all will have experience with this issue:

My partner and I just completed our Day Skipper certifications and we are looking to cruise along the East Coast of the US. We will be selling our house and living full-time on the sailboat. I work remotely, so I don't think there will be any issues.. but my work will require a permanent address/mailing address.

How do y'all get mail and do you have a permanent address?

I've been absolutely loving Witch Hat Atelier, and I think my little nephew would as well. He's 6 though, so I'm hesitant to recommend it to my sister to watch with him since there are only a few episodes out so far. I'd hate to get him hooked on it only for there to be an inappropriate twist.

Thanks
