Insurance will be paying for my bra!

Just wanted to share a small victory with you all that I managed to get my insurance to cover my bra expenses! I originally wasn’t gonna be able to see my doctor until September but they managed to sneak me into a telehealth appointment. I’ve been diagnosed with gigantomastia for a while but thanks to some great advice I knew exactly what to ask and they prescribed me an orthopedic bra without any hassle! It’s a small step but it’s exciting to know I’ll finally be comfortable, my next step is to start hopefully looking into a reduction!

Plastic surgeon for breast reduction recommendations?

Hello! I’m looking for recommendations on plastic surgeons in the metro, ideally someone who's done breast related work in the past. Prices included would also be a huge bonus but totally ok if not!

Family judging

First post here! So glad I found this community!

Practically my entire life I (F23) would only ever shave for other people or just shave in the spots that would be seen when out in public but recently I’ve decided to stop shaving altogether and as you can imagine, there’s been a lot of pushback making me feel super discouraged. My mom came to me the other day telling me that it disgusts and embarrasses her and that she’s had extended family express concern to her about it. My family is pretty conservative which doesn’t help the situation but it’s getting to the point where I don’t know what to say. I feel like I should be able to wear what I want or express my body how I want without being scolded. Like it’s normal for women to grow body hair! Just because I don’t shave doesn’t mean I’m not hygienic! Anyways how do any of you handle it when people won’t leave you alone about it?

Must-dos while in town?

Hey! I’m coming in town at the end of this month to go see Tame Impala in concert! The concerts on the 28th which is a Friday but I’ll be staying throughout the weekend to check out the city. Any suggestions on what to check out? I was hoping to check out some live music, local places to eat, and hopefully hit up some cool bars or clubs! I do love a good dive bar so bonus points for that.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I 23F, have been diagnosed with macromastia/gigantomastia since I was a teen. AMA

Full disclosure, this is being made in good faith to hopefully make more people aware of what women with bigger busts go through on a daily basis so please try to use common sense when asking your question.

If you’re unfamiliar of what the condition is, it was explained to me where your breasts are too big to the point where they literally cause damage to your body. Another way I was told was when they are more than 3% of your total body weight. I also personally prefer the term “breast hypertrophy” because to me the other way of saying it makes me sound like I’m a freak or have a disease. Anyways, please ask away!

Missed Connection!!!

After much convincing from my friends I decided to make this post. I went to go see the Odyssey the other night at the AMC Barrywoods location and left my wallet and phone in the cupholder of the theater on accident when I was leaving. You chased me all the way outside to make sure I got it back and I was so awestruck I could barely get any words before you left. If you’re on here, I just wanted to say thank you properly and maybe we can go see a movie together!

Sorry if this type of post doesn’t belong here but I figured it wouldn’t hurt.

Any hacks for ill-fitting bras to be less miserable?

I posted this in r/abrathatfits and was told I could possibly find better help here so here it is:

I’ll spare most of the details so I won’t bore you but after recently using the calculator I find out that I’m a 34PP/34Q. As some of you may know, not only is it super expensive but it’s also pretty hard to find but I’m in the process of hopefully getting insurance to cover most of it. So to put a bandaid on the problem I bought a temporary bra (36L) off of Amazon knowing it wasn’t my size but anything was better than what I was using previously.

Obviously I know it isn’t going to be comfortable or look great but is there anything I can do to make my situation better until I get a permanent one? Whether it be altering the bra itself or changing how I dress. The main issues are the gore not touching my sternum and the band riding up/being too tight. I also have a lot of quadboob going on but that’s expected. Any help is appreciated, you all have been fantastic so far!

Is Elizabeth Valentine actually worth the extra money?

Since finding out about the ABTF calculator I feel like I’ve been living my whole life blind up to this point. I’ve always assumed with breasts my size that it’s normal to be uncomfortable in a bra and you just deal with it. Well with these new resources I’m remaining cautiously optimistic on buying something that actually fits me correctly. After fiddling with the calculator and making sure I’m measuring everything right I ended up with 34PP/34Q which is honestly shocking because I wasn’t even aware that was a size 😭.

Anyways I was recommended checking out Elizabeth Valentine due to their variety but I couldn’t help but notice they’re like $175-$200 MINIMUM for me. I can’t afford to keep buying another one if one breaks or whatever. I guess what I’m asking is are they actually reliable and worth the price or are there more budget friendly options out there that can still get the job done?

Constantly feeling invalidated

I’m SO tired of having my feelings and complaints brushed aside by friends and family. No one in my family is above a D cup so none of them have ever had a clue on proper fitting but they always try to give me advice when they have no idea what they’re talking about. They’ll try to say “Have you tried losing weight?” Lady I literally can’t lose anymore weight, if you actually looked at me you would see that I’m not fat. Or they’ll be like “Have you tried wearing better fitting clothing?” Like I would love to if I could actually FIND stuff that fits me properly. They loooove to tell me that I should be happy because I have what other women would pay for or that it lets me get whatever I want.

I try to talk to my friends about it and they do the same thing! Like aren’t you guys supposed to sympathize or at least acknowledge what I’m going through? It gets exhausting trying to explain to them what I deal with on a daily basis when they literally have no idea. The times they do listen and say they’re sorry it feels like it’s just to shut me up. I’ve even had a DOCTOR in the past try to tell me that my breasts weren’t causing me pain when it was a continuous topic on a lot of visits.

I could go on and on but I wanted to focus specifically on that.
