This lamp doesn’t seem to have an on button

I’ve tried several different bulb sizes. It has a C type charging port that I’ve charged until it’s green, but it doesn’t turn on while plugged in or otherwise. The small circle on top of the base is only decorative.

What’s next… how do I organize my life now?

TW; passing of a loved one

Hello, I figured this question might be best directed toward other INFJs… This is sort of an open question with no right answer, I think.

I am 31f, for the past four years I had been caring for/managing my father’s life. He wasn’t around before 2022 due to lifelong substance abuse and had many health problems, but despite that he went on to live until this past May, when he died suddenly and unexpectedly. I was essentially his sole emotional, legal and otherwise support; I put together his memorial myself.

Ever since my father came back into my life, most of my goals and ideas of moving forward revolves around him. I was always trying to make his life better, I’d buy anything he needed, and I was working on a plan to bring him back home from the nursing home (he needed assisted living, but we had no way to afford that), he was always so bored there.

Now, aside from the grief, my life just feels empty. For weeks I could not plan things for Tuesdays because that was the day I always spent time with him. I’ve been taking small steps to reinvest in myself; I work out fairly consistently, I’m reworking my facial routine, I’m taking care of my feet. I set up visible storage in my apartment so I remember I have things and actually use them (a d h d asf), and I’m planning to start classes at the CC this month. I am on a good medication routine I’ve had since before he passed.

I am interested in a lot of things; I paint, write, go thrifting and resell, read (not as much as I’d like), hike, swim, sing, and once a month I do “oldies karaoke” at the nursing home my father lived in. I have two great part time jobs, I just moved into a studio apartment, and I have a 3 yo nephew I love seeing each week. I went through a breakup in June so I am also single and intend to stay that way.

I have a lot of things I **can** do, but it feels like my overarching sense of purpose is gone. I don’t have a strong desire to have kids, though I’m open to adopting a child eventually, and I know my nephew does and will need my support.

But it’s like… now I’m just me. No constant doctor’s appointments, no going to visit him and take him out, no future of his to incorporate into my and my family’s lives. I feel like a boat without a rudder. Every time I sit down and try making a todo list, I find myself thinking, what am I actually doing here? What are all these little tasks working toward?

I know that it’s ultimately up to me, but I just feel sort of lost. Can anyone else relate to this feeling? How do I look at my life outside the lens of what my purpose was for so long?

Great review for u/noiseartwork

I hired noiseartwork as a remote English to Spanish interpreter for my father’s memorial, using Zoom. Not only did he do a great job even through some technical difficulties, he was very communicative and stayed involved before and after. He even sent a decorated translated version of the poem I’d read during the memorial for my family to keep ☺️ I would definitely hire him again. Very trustworthy and competent person and clearly a lot of experience with live interpreting. He made the event very memorable for my non-English speaking family who attended virtually.

Spanish to English remote translator for memorial service

Hello, I am looking for a bilingual Spanish/English speaker to translate my father’s memorial service remotely. He was from Puerto Rico, where some of his family still lives and will be attending virtually; at least one of my aunts speaks very little English.

The memorial is taking place on Wednesday, July 15th from 10am to 11am. I will pay $50 to a translator that is able to log onto Zoom, join the meeting room, and translate the memorial in real time. In the case that the service runs over an hour, I will increase the pay by the same rate.

Requirements

- Must have good internet service and updated computer with Zoom installed. I am the only person organizing and hosting the memorial, so while I’ll have someone on standby at the screen in case of issues, I really don’t want to have to troubleshoot midservice if at all possible.

- Please have translated live at least once before, whether in person or for an event.

- Please be a kind, respectful, and reliable person. This memorial means a lot to me, especially as my father passed away unexpectedly and was just beginning to reconnect with his siblings. And again, I am the only person responsible for making this happen, so please, please only respond if you are a trustworthy and responsible person I can count on to show up & on time.

- In the same vein, please be a tolerant and patient person. It should go without saying, but no racists, no one intolerant of other religions, and no one who will have a problem receiving feedback or adjusting so that my family is able to have a good experience.

If you are interested and meet the requirements, we can schedule a video meeting to discuss further. Thank you for reading

The Goodwill in my town moved to a new location and… they have lost their gahtdamn minds

The basket would’ve made a great random BS basket for my front door. Unfortunately, it’s priced the same as a small meal 🙃 NC, USA

A trick to use for staying engaged in small talk

So I’m an introvert, and for most of my life I felt that I was awkward and generally avoided small talk at all costs because it made me so anxious that I might not know what to say next, or might say the wrong thing. When I started working in restaurants, I always preferred being in the kitchen instead of talking to people. Nowadays, it still makes me anxious, but I actually enjoy it.

While a great rule of thumb is to “be interested, not interesting”, if that doesn’t come naturally to you, try imagining (or really, realizing) that anybody you talk to could have a backstory so interesting you’ll be sharing it with others the rest of your life. Anybody could have a fact or resource stored in their mind that is exactly what you need at this point in your life. They could have experiences you deeply relate to or end up being from your hometown, or have traveled somewhere you’ve always wanted to go; they could have met someone famous that you adore, or know someone you also knew in a different part of the world, or introduce you to your future spouse.

Of course this won’t always end up being the case, but it makes you realize how much you may actually have in common with the person next to you. Also it’s okay to say things that don’t matter; someone else might find it useful enough to launch their own interesting topic. A new coworker told me they were from the same state as my mom, so I mentioned the town she was born in and something I vaguely knew about it and watched him jump onto a history lesson about the region. Elders especially, often have incredibly interesting or useful information just waiting to be called upon in friendly conversation. Anyway, I hope this helps somebody!

How to inset a gemstone on a Damascus steel pendant? For my late father

Hello all, I am wondering if the jewelry piece I’m hoping to make is possible. My father passed away last month, and I have a blacksmith friend who offered to make something with his ashes.

I decided on a Damascus steel pendant as I wear jewelry often. I would really like to inset a gemstone on it, his birthstone tanzanite. Does anyone have suggestions for how to go about this, or where I might find someone who can do this? Google hasn’t yielded much but creating a bezel to set the gem in and place it on the pendant, but I’m not sure if my friend is able to do that.
