Thinking of moving near Gonzalez Elementary. What's the community like?

Tittle edit needed : Gonsalves

Hi! We’re a family of 3 with a newborn, currently renting in LA City, and considering buying near Gonzalez Elementary in Cerritos.

We’re Indian immigrants but really value being part of a diverse, broader community rather than primarily socializing within our own ethnic group.

For anyone who lives nearby:

What’s the neighborhood/community like?

Are there many families in their 30s with young kids?

Is the area ethnically diverse?

Is it easy to meet people and make friends?

We’ve mostly experienced the Artesia side of Cerritos, so we’d love to hear what the Gonzalez area is actually like day-to-day.

Thanks!

How do people feel about the rapid growth and cultural visibility of the Indian community in the Bay Area?

I want to start by saying that I recognize how much Indian-Americans contribute to the Bay Area’s economy, culture, and communities. That’s not in question.

At the same time, I sometimes wonder whether the scale of the demographic change is beginning to feel like a significant cultural shift. Indian festivals, businesses, organizations, and cultural celebrations are increasingly visible throughout the region.

Is this simply what a diverse, evolving city looks like, or does it sometimes feel like the Bay Area is becoming disproportionately shaped by one immigrant community?

Genuinely curious how both longtime residents and Indian-Americans feel about this-not as an anti-Indian argument, but as a discussion about immigration, cultural identity, and how cities change over time.

20 days postpartum and struggling with milk supply. I feel like I'm failing my baby. Looking for advice.

I'm 15 days postpartum, and despite trying really hard, I feel like my milk supply just hasn't fully come in.

My baby is latching now and will nurse for a total of about 20-45 minutes, but I almost never hear or see him swallow, so I have no idea if he's actually transferring any milk. After nursing, we offer him formula, and he usually drinks that too.

When I pump, I get about 20-40 mL total from both breasts combined per session. I'm currently pumping 8 times a day, including 2 overnight pumps and 1 power pump every day.

I'm trying everything I can, but I'm feeling defeated. I really wanted to exclusively breastfeed or at least provide mostly breast milk, and I can't stop feeling like I've failed my baby.

The first week of postpartum was really difficult. My son had low blood sugar after birth, so the nurses encouraged formula supplementation. I also developed postpartum preeclampsia, which made everything even harder. Because of everything going on, I wasn't able to latch him for the first 7 days, and I honestly didn't realize how important those early days of frequent latching and milk removal were. Looking back, I feel so guilty and keep wondering if I've permanently hurt my supply.

I would really appreciate any advice:

How can I tell if my baby is actually getting enough milk while latched?

Is it normal to not hear swallowing?

Why is my pumping output still only 20-40 mL per session despite pumping 8 times a day?

Is there still hope to significantly increase my supply at 15 days postpartum after such a difficult start?

Has anyone successfully built their supply after a delayed start due to medical complications?

I'm working so hard, but emotionally this has been one of the hardest parts of postpartum.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar.

Mom visiting from India to suppyduring pregnancy/birth — what should she expect at LAX immigration/customs?

My mother is visiting from India to help me during pregnancy and after birth, and her port of entry is Los Angeles (LAX).

Trying to prepare her properly — what documents should she carry besides passport/visa? Would things like my invitation letter, pregnancy records, return ticket, or copies of my ID/visa help?

What kinds of questions do immigration officers usually ask parents visiting for childbirth/postpartum support?

She speaks decent English but isn’t super fluent — can she request language assistance if needed?

Also, she’s bringing some gold jewelry:

mostly personal used jewelry

around $1,000 worth intended as gifts

How is customs duty usually handled for this? Is duty generally only on gifted/new gold, or also personal jewelry?

Would appreciate any recent experiences at LAX.

Pregnant and craving the greasiest dry noodles possible - West LA

Currently pregnant and I have one very specific craving: the greasiest, most flavorful dry noodles imaginable. 😭

Not soupy ramen. I’m talking oily, spicy, garlicky, wok-fried, chili crisp coated noodles that leave your lips shiny and your stomach happy for exactly 20 minutes before the heartburn kicks in.

Please drop your recommendations!! Thank you!
