they call me the fun-haver!!

once again... the theme of my character... i've been making like no progress but things are finally starting to kick back in tonight. i love jazz a lot and i'm trying to get better at it without learning music theory because i'm far too lazy for that!

also this is obiviously a big fat wip

update on this song it's going real cool

the drawing in the beginning is the character i made that this is for don't be scared

i don't know how niche this subreddit is, so good chance you haven't seen this actually lol. but this is pretty much my first time doing this genre and ohhh gosh i am having insurmountable amounts of fun. it's the theme for my evil plant alien mastermind character! i had to edit him into the video this since there's really no other way to attatch it, not even in the comments i think? but i just really wanted to show what he looked like. but this is aobut the music... pls tell me how i'm doing so far thank you very much

how can i recreate/what effects are used to create this sound?

im talking about that weird snare(?), and the only thing i've tried is stretching a drum sample out and adding a flanger over it, but that obviously didn't get the job done. i've really been wondering how sounds like this are done and it would make a song i'm making literally 1 million times cooler.

how to do slide notes panning stuff with midi files?

looking through the doom 2 files when i opened up slade for the first time i saw the music was in the format "mus.", so i don't know what's up with that, but i use fl studio and everything works fine after i convert the song to midi out and set whatever instruments and stuff, everything works fine in that regard. but i just can't figure out panning and i absolutely have no idea how slide notes would work. also, slade plays them weirdly in it's player but it sounds fine in doom so that's also gonna be weird.

making a theme for my character!!

if you've seen me before i'll say it again everything used here is FREE. but yes i'm having such amazing fun making themes for my character(s). sorry about the weird screen ratio i forgot to minimize my plugin picker and i don't want you peeking...

and someone might ask and i don't want to say it a bunch of times so here's how i did the lead guitar:

https://sfzinstruments.github.io/guitars/metal_gtx/ (sfz)

https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando.html (sfz player)

https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_FreeAmp/ (amp) (i used this one but you can use whichever you like)

https://blog.wonthelp.info/2021/12/03/bendy-an-fl-studio-plugin-for-using-piano-roll-bends-panning-etc-in-third-party-vst-plugins/ (midi controller for piano roll stuff like slide notes, velocity, panning, and fine tune with 3rd party plugins)

and i just used a vibrato plugin you can find that yourself idk

u/cavestoryandnge — 22 days ago

are there any effect plugins that you can simply adjust the fine tune of the channel it's on?

i have some strings that are in tune but everything else is like +20 cents

trying to figure out the midi out plugin

https://reddit.com/link/1v3whmb/video/jrcm7fzr4veh1/player

i'm trying to make music for a doom wad, and this is what i want the result to be after i "prepare for midi export" (using a general midi soundfont) and set all the panning and release stuff. but when i pan stuff using controllers, the export seems to not pan at all if there is at least one instrument center panned, and only pan left or right (one or the other idek dude) if instruments are panned at all. also, i don't know how to set up a release controller either, and i don't think there is a release knob in both the basic controllers and boolean controllers in the "page" dropdown. how do i get these controllers working correctly?

any settings i can change to get it to run better?

excuse the noise from my mic i forgot to mute it... but my laptop is pretty damn good it's just not particularly meant for playing games. as you can see. if it can run at 30 frames sometimes then there must be a way to get it to run like that all the time. also, i tried playing some more after i got done recording and it was able to run really smoothly for a personal record of at least 30 seconds i have hope

not recieving emails specifically for when i enter my info on a website and told i'll be receiving an account activation email/whatever else

there is a likely chance this is a website problem, but it just seems like a strange coincidence if so. also i know this might be an easy fix or something simple i was missing please don't kill me i'm desperate for an answer so i'm coming here for one. NO it's not a storage problem...,,.,.

i'm trying to get me some free plugins and most of them make you register even if the product is free, and usually it's cool because they don't require an account activation, so i just make an account download my stuff and leave. but even when they do require an account activation, i used to actually get the email. now i get nothing, and i do check in "all emails" and receive nothing, but i get all the other emails from other stuff. i'm really desperate this time though because i need this plugin so bad it's really good and i'm gonna fucking POOp everywhere if i don't get to have it

and i'm on laptop since apparently that needs to be mentioned. any and all help is appreciated thank you come again

ecco: the tides of time - big water (recreation)

a near-perfect recreation of "big water" from ecco 2. i did this one specifically because number one, it was easy lol, and number 2 i love it a lot, and i think it's really underrated and beautiful. it's not perfect because i used genny and vgm files to get these instruments, so unless i wrote text of the music with the exact chip and got it running in a genesis (or however they did music on the thing) it will never be perfect. also one note on the bass is off aghhh... i hope this is cool though!

everything here used is free

alt rock song i'm making which is something i have never made. for the most part though, the guitars are clean guitars in sfz stuff with a really good free amp, and a shreddage SOUNDFONT that someone made. suprisingly, the soundfont is the thing that's doing the heavy lifting. the drums are steven slate, and the bass is just from sgm soundfont. took a lot of mixing to get it to sound cool... tell me what you guys think!!!!

boss theme from my work in progress sega genesis album

inspired by the adventures of batman and robin, vectorman, and streets of rage 3. i was using soundfonts for a while until i discovered that i could just download a vgm/vgz file of any track from any game, import it into my sega genesis plugin (which is really just a fm synth that has genesis presets), and i'll have whatever instruments from that song. i only use soundfonts for pitch bends in the piano roll since plugins not native to fl studio can't do that. if this does well i'll post some more!

short song i made with the doom instruments

i got into doom like a week ago, mostly just the old stuff because i like old games. i just about beat doom 1, and i've been having a lot of fun. but being that i'm a composer i thought i should do something with the instruments. which i have before with general midi... but not in the style of doom so yea! i know there's way too much blues stuff in here but i was just jamming out. so i'll do another one that's metal instead next time. happy father's day!

"prologue" from my wip sega genesis album

is it recognizable as sega genesis? i usually try and choose instruments that aren't sonic so it actually sounds unique, but i sometimes i worry i might have gotten too deep with the instruments. for example, i used the saxophone from the genesis version of toy story, which honestly sounds like a 32x instrument. and then the other example is this short song. and for anyone who's interested, this is inspired by columns, comix zone, and "it's been a while" by staind

midi export contains nothing...?

first image is of the render window (disk space is nothing), and the second image is when i imported the midi file... nothing. i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong here, and it has worked before. what's going on?
