How is the classic bike availability between Grand Central and Herald Square?

I’m back in the city 6 years remote. Was a member for quite a while and when I left it was like 70% analog bikes and like 30% electric but the electrics were free. Now it feels like the ratio flipped and at $.27/ min for an electric I don’t think I want to pay that $2-3 extra daily. So I really want the analog bikes. But after walking around yesterday I saw one blue bike.

So my question is for anyone in midtown, can you get the blue bikes easily?

autumn blaze red maple planted three years ago, dead spot in the middle starting from the top down. Remove or keep dead/dying limb?

It’s kind of high up and would need to borrow a taller ladder and if I clip that one spot would it look dumb and therefore should I clip the rest of the top?

Also I should note we got a very late last frost this year well after new growth was put on.

If you’re into Penguin Cafe Orchestra and can make it to Woodstock tonight, Simon’s Dream is playing and they are phenomenal.

I did sound last night for Simon’s Dream. They are two long term members of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra along with four other amazing musicians. I work a lot of shows. All sorts of genres and last night what I saw was such a treat.

You’ve probably heard their songs before without realizing it. Perpetuum Mobile, Music for a Found Harmonium and Telephone & Rubber Band have been used in tons of movies and commercials.

If you’re into instrumental chamber music you should really check this out.

I’m not affiliated with the band at all. I just had the pleasure of mixing their show last night and felt the need to spread the word.

Not sure if any designers lurk here but what do we think about a PeeWee’s Playhouse theme?

Me and a buddy were talking about pins and IP between balls the other day and I realized that PeeWee’s Playhouse could be an amazing table. From what I hear that IP is locked up pretty tightly but it might be worth having a convo with the rights holders.

5th interview was 6/26. Should I send a follow up to recruiting manager?

I know last week was a holiday week and they did say the overall process to have the position filled was going to take a couple months but should I send a follow up to the recruiting manager this week? I don’t want to be a pest.

Live EDM and indie rock tomorrow night at Quinn’s in Beacon. FREE. Music at 9

Tomorrow night is the debut of Tiger Driver 96. If you’re a fan of Daft Punk, Justice, Simian Mobile Disco or Cassius you will dig Tiger Driver 96.

You might be saying “it’s last Saturday at Quinn’s. What about Positive Guys?” Well unfortunately due to a scheduling conflict they can’t perform but TD96 is stepping in to fill some big shoes.

They are opening for Splitting Hares, an amazing indie rock band from Beacon.

How did this single plant produce three different colors?

I have seen the yellow to white before but where the heck did the pink come from? This is year 3. Only got occasional white buds in years past. Nothing added to the soil. I don’t think I fertilized these this year at all.

Panel interview and presentation this week. Should I reprise the accomplishment I used in the last interview and go more in depth or do I use a different example? First interviewer will be on the panel.

So I have second round (third if you count the HR screening) this week. My first interviewer obviously went well to land me a second. During the first interview I was asked about something I built 0-1. The feature I chose could not have been more relevant to the position. The interviewer and I had a great conversation about it.

Fast forward to this week and I have another interview, this time with a panel and I have to give a presentation. The first interviewer will be on the panel. So my question is do I present what I already discussed with the first interviewer? Like I said, that feature was directly in line with what they are hiring for. Almost to a T and I had no idea. I just went in the greatest hits catalog and pulled one out.

So for this one do I pull something else out as to keep things fresh and try not to seem like I’m a one trick pony? I still have lots of info I did not share during the first interview and since it’s a presentation I can make it much more in depth with visual aids.

I’m torn so here I am asking for advice.

Peterson Suitcase 88…buzz in the preamp sometimes. Lower notes seem to trigger it.

I just recapped this preamp which fixed a dead channel and insanely buzzy other channel. Now I’m getting this issue. It’s in the preamp for sure because I flip flopped the signals going into the power amps and the buzz moved with it.

I’m thinking it might be an out of spec resistor screwing with one of the transistors. But it’s also not consistent. Guess I need to hook it up to a scope?

Is my quote reasonable for a 88 key Peterson era suitcase repair/refurb?

TLDR: seasoned repair tech quoting out his first Rhodes repair. Owner is looking to flip. Are my quotes reasonable, undercutting myself or on the mark?

I fix music equipment ($80/hour 1.5 hours north of NYC) but this is my first Rhodes so I’m looking for a little confirmation my quote is good and I’m not undercutting myself. This is whole story. Client bought it for $400!! (insert “I’m happy for you” toddler meme) and is straight up looking to flip it. If I had any cash I would buy it but alas. So keep in mind he’s trying to squeeze as much profit out of this as possible. He’s not looking to keep or play it.

So first thing is when he had it demoed they had it hooked up to a Yamaha receiver the owner had. So after pulling off the baffle which had no screws I saw the amps and speakers were disconnected from the PS module and the harp was disconnected from the amps. Someone did this on purpose probably because something is busted with the amps, preamp or PS. So I reconnect everything and it works ok (preamp fully functional and vibrato works!) but sometimes the audio will cut out completely. I’m pretty sure it’s the PS because I was able to pull the square cable when cut and check the 24v rail and it was jumping but eventually stabilized.

So I’m thinking replace the PS with the one vintage vibe sells.

Fix a rattle in the harp between 3-4 keys around middle c,

deoxit the preamp pots, (maybe recap?)

full surface cleaning as it was in a smokers house,

new speaker baffle replacement screws

and check and slightly adjust the tuning and balancing but it’s already shockingly good.

$1000 + parts (ps and screws).

I’ll have an add on for tone bar screws and grommets. $160 (2hrs) + parts. That would cover all sound generation and put it in gig-able condition without refurbing any action parts.

The good news is the action as is, is not horrible. Key height and travel is near perfect. However if it were mine I would replace all the dampening felts, hammer tips and do the miracle mod. And for that I’m thinking $600+parts? Maybe that is too little.

Cosmetics I don’t think he wants to do anything. There is no saving the grill cloth as it’s smoke stained to shit. There are rips in the tolex. All the metal is rusted. And personally unless you are going to do all of these things, doing one is just lipstick on a pig. And I have never re-tolexed so got a learning curve. So maybe I’ll say $1200+parts for all the cosmetic and he can pass that quote onto the new owner.

Brand new alternator cutting in and out. 2009 Forester

You can see the battery draining and then the alternator kicks in. The connections are tight, the pulley is spinning. I’m at a loss. Alternator is brand new.

Ace Bandage is the premiere Punk indie country psychedelic jam band. Coming up from the city. Positive Guys are your local weirdos who play anything they feel like. This month it’s an electro set with some surprises. Come early for dinner. Stay for the jams.
