What happens after humanity survives its apocalypse? Exploring a post-post-apocalyptic world.

I’ve been developing the world for the game Silkgrove. Instead of focusing on the apocalypse itself, I wanted to explore what happens years later. Humanity has survived a devastating war against machines. Communities have rebuilt, farms have returned, and life has become peaceful again. However, big machines, abandoned technology, and forgotten infrastructure remain scattered across the landscape.

People no longer see these remnants as mysterious; they have simply become part of everyday life. Children play around them, and most people barely notice their presence.

I’m curious about what you think of this idea. Does it feel believable that something like this could eventually become ordinary? If you lived in a solarpunk world like this, how do you think people would view these old machines after years of coexistence?

I've announced "Silkgrove", a cozy solarpunk RPG where you help rebuild a world recovering from a war between humans and machines.

Silkgrove is a calm, open-world game set in a world of normalized strangeness, which has become part of everyday life. Repair machines, craft tools, farm the land, and help communities thrive again as you slowly bring the world back to life. The war between humans and machines is long over, leaving behind a peaceful world that feels familiar, yet a little different.

Silkgrove game trailer Intro Art by Me

Hi everyone,

I recently released a trailer for Silkgrove, a cozy open-world adventure RPG I've been working on, and I wanted to share some of the worldbuilding behind it because it's probably the part of the project I've spent the most time thinking about, from making some early paintings (which you see in the trailer intro) to building Silkgrove around it.

The world of Silkgrove began with a simple question: what happens years after humanity survives its apocalypse?

In Silkgrove, humanity once fought a devastating war against machines. The war ended long ago. Most of the people who fought it are gone. Most of the knowledge has been lost, but still a few remain in the old machines. Communities rebuilt, farms and towns returned, and life became peaceful again.

But remnants of the old world still remain everywhere.

Silkgrove is a cozy open-world adventure RPG about restoring the land and helping communities thrive again. Repair machines, craft tools, and explore a world of forgotten technology and quiet mysteries. Long after the war between humans and machines, you'll help bring life back to a peaceful world that feels familiar, yet a little different.

I've announced Silkgrove, a solarpunk RPG game where you rebuild the world after a war between HUMANS & MACHINES.

Silkgrove is a calm, open-world game about restoring places. You repair things, craft tools, farm, and slowly bring the world back to life. The war between humans and machines is already over, so the game is quiet and reflective. A world that feels familiar, yet a little different.

Silkgrove - A solarpunk cozy game | Summer games fest 2026 | Official Trailer | That started as my personal paintings

Silkgrove is an open world game about restoring places. You repair things, craft tools, rebuild and slowly bring the world back to life. The war between humans and machines is already over, so the game is quiet and reflective. It started as my personal paintings.

It's a world that feels familiar, yet a little different. Calm, but with a mix of retro future ideas and large, forgotten (or still working) machines, & creating a sense of quiet, normalized strangeness.

In the game, you take on the role of Annie, a young Restorer equipped with a set of tools and a mission to help rebuild the world using sustainable practices.
