I feel like black people, especially black females are hyper masculinized by default. I do see myself as not fitting perfectly into the gender binary, but i wouldn’t consider myself transgender. i am female from birth but ive had my femininity questioned since childhood.

Naturally, with little to no makeup and editing I have pretty strong features for a woman. I am nigerian and took after my dad in looks. Meanwhile my older sister took after my mom and was always the pretty one. I had a tomboy/alt style growing up which didn’t really help but now as an adult i’ve leaned into a more feminine look.

But despite that I’ve been called a trans woman (in a negative way) and straight up a man multiple times, especially online. Even with guys (it’s ALWAYS guys for some reason) calling me the male version of the cosplays I do (had more than 1 guy call me Mr Wong on my ada cosplay) etc.

It makes me feel very insecure about my looks. I know this isn’t an uncommon experience for black women/fems but it fvcking sucks how this is a thing and beauty standards only recognize lightskin/white people with eurocentric features.

I’ve seen this once in a while and i still don’t understand what this means. I will see “free” under users despite them being listed as paid members. Does this mean that they canceled or is it a glitch?

I had a lot of fun cosplaying default shadowheart and wanted to know what other bg3 character would work for my overall look (preferably a female character).

or if i should just do another version of shadowheart (some said selunite sh would suit my skin tone because of the contrast and i can kinda see the vision). I know she has a lot of different mods and outfits so she’s one of those characters where you can do multiple cosplays of. I normally only consider one cos per fanbase but the dnd/bg3 fandom has been so heartwarming to be a part of that i want to contribute more. as it is i think the next one will be redeemed shadowheart but im open to other suggestions 🖤

edit: After breezing through the replies and searching up some characters i am set on doing selune sh or another cleric. reminder that im still a new intermediate cosplayer and not a pro yet so certain characters will be hard to emulate for me. I do believe though that as time passes and i cosplay more i will get better and try more complex character designs!

So I dressed up as shadowheart for a convention and wanted to nerd out here to spot any bg3 fans.

Still sort of new to the fandom, i’ve heard about this game for a while and did my research on the lore (I always have to know more about a franchise before engaging with it’s base and the game/show itself). My friends who’ve played the game say i embody her in a way personality wise so i gave it a go. I do other cosplays if this one interests you. I hope i did the elf princess some justice 🖤

I remember growing up as a kid I would LARP (back when it meant something else than the new tiktok buzzword for being a poser lmao) as my favorite cartoon and video game characters. Back then cosplaying wasn’t really cool, neither was being a weeb (it was called an otaku back then). So people thought i was lame and i should get a life LMAO. yeah so i kept these interests to myself and didn’t care about being a nerd.

Now that cosplay and LARPing has become more popular it makes childhood me feel overjoyed that there’s others out there living their fantasies like me. At first doing this in public or online made me hesitate because 90% of cosplayers don’t look like me, black cosplayers aren‘t common and as a teen i felt like maybe it wasn’t for us. It felt like a lot of things weren’t for us and i was soo nervous. When i finally took the jump to start making my own stuff and cosplay it was rough because i would get the most racist comments and hostility from fandoms. I took a mental health break and decided to try again.

So i went to a convention recently and dressed up as Shadowheart from baldur’s gate 3! Meeting other cosplayers and being asked for pictures, getting compliments on my costumes, etc felt SO amazing and healing. I’m just glad to be a part of something bigger and having an outlet for my creativity.
