Fixing spray for sensitive skin?

Hi all
I’m looking for a makeup fixing spray to help with longevity. I have rosacea which makes my skin sensitive. I’d love to hear if others with sensitive skin have found any good products to suggest?

I am sensitive to niacinamide in particular.

Is it possible to add warmth to colour without damage?

Hello!
My hair is a cool toned light brown. The colour is natural, it hasn’t been dyed in many years. I have damage from repeated perming.

I’d be interested to know if there is a way that I can add warmth to my hair colour to turn it more golden/coppery but without damage. I’m not looking for a dramatic change. I just find that warmer tones compliment my skin tone better.

I’ve looked into colour depositing conditioners but it seems those don’t last long and I’m worried they’ll dye my sheets and towels

Has anyone tried less than daily dosing due to side effects?

Hello all

I’m 32F with hormonal cystic acne, weigh 55kg.

I’m 3 weeks in to starting accutane at 5mg daily, and despite being on the lowest dose, my dry eyes are killing me. I was in the midst of the purge phase (small whiteheads) but thats manageable, it’s the eyes that are a problem.

I’ve tried 5 types of eye drops, warm compresses, a humidifier, omega 3 supplements. I’m having to use eye drops every hour and still it’s painful. I’m really worried the eye dryness will become permanent if I continue like this. I did see an optometrist who advised I was already doing everything they would have advised.

I can’t tolerate this so my options are either to (1) stop it, or (2) try second daily or twice weekly dosing.

Earliest appointment with derm is 7 days away so trying to decide what to do until then.

Has anyone found effect from accutane in a second daily or twice weekly regime when starting it? My acne was not severe to begin with, I would typically have 1-2 cysts at any point in time.

Quick tip for lip dryness

I found an effective strategy to manage my lip dryness whilst on this awful med and I thought I’d share.

First layer: Squalane oil (I use the ordinary)
Second layer: Lanolips or whatever occlusive you prefer

Now if only I could solve the issue of my extremely dry eyes, that would be a treat.

The thing about bow ties in oval diamonds

Is that IRL they are nowhere near as stark as in photos you see online.

Much like others on this sub, before getting my ring, I wanted an oval diamond but was scared of the bow tie effect. I saw so many photos of ovals with obvious bow ties and worried how essentially half the diamond looked “dead” in photos.

I bit the bullet, ordered my ring, and I honestly have to say that I wish I had worried less about the bow tie effect. Yes, in certain lighting (full direct sun) my ring shows a bow tie. No, it is not “dead”. In fact, the “bow tie” (lateral parts of the diamond) have the prettiest shine out of the whole ring - the facets are bigger and therefore bigger and more colourful flashes than the top and bottom aspects, which show finer, more shimmery, flashes.

I spend much of my time indoors, and in this lighting I don’t see a bow tie at all.

I am so happy with my ring. It’s very big and I’m not used to it yet, but hopefully “shrinkage” will occur. This is a 2.6ct oval lab, YG band, WG prongs, 2.4mm band, on my 5.25 finger.

Maybe I got a “good” oval, I dunno, I let my jeweller pick because honestly I was at my wits end 😂 He showed me photos online but I didn’t see it in person before it was set.

TLDR: don’t stress so much about bow ties.

Purging or over-moisturising?

I am 35F 60kg. I’ve had cystic acne since teens, mostly on chin.

I started 5mg accutane 2.5 weeks ago (derm suggested low dose to start because of my rosacea). My eyes and skin got dry and so I switched up my skincare, adding in hydration serum, rosehip oil, and a couple of times I used a barrier cream.

I’ve noticed in the last few days I’ve been getting a lot of small, superficial whiteheads on my chin. Initially I thought it might be a reaction to the new skincare layers, so I’ve pared those back and resumed my pre-accutane lighter skin regime. The spots continue to appear (several per day) and I’m thinking maybe this is purging? I thought because it was a low dose I might not have a purge…

Have others noticed purging with smaller whiteheads? I never get small whiteheads, only painful cysts, hence why I’m confused 😵‍💫

Routine help: Small whiteheads after using Cicafalte+

Hi all
I just started low dose accurate and am having to change up my skincare. As expected, my previously oily skin is drying up. I also have rosacea so my skin is very sensitive.
I’ve been using the recommended method of layering hyaluronic acid serum, moisturiser, oil, and then a barrier cream. I’ve been using Hadalabo premium lotion, the ordinary NMF moisturiser, TO rosehip or squalane oil, and recently added Cicafalte+ as a last layer, since my skin still felt tight.
Since adding the Cicafalte+, I’ve noticed each night I am developing 1 small superficial whitehead on my chin. This is unusual for me because I’m used to cystic acne, I don’t usually get these small spots. Thankfully my cystic acne has cleared up since starting accutane.

I’m guessing that the reason these spots are coming up is because I’m overdoing the layers, but yet my skin feel dry. I’m hoping someone might have any thoughts or suggestions on what I can change up?

Protein-free, cruelty free shampoo/ conditioner recs?

Hi all,

My hair is a bit all over the place. I have been getting curl perms for a few years but stopped recently to try to get it healthier. I have shoulder length hair, the bottom half is quite damaged and wavy, the top half is natural and 1a straight. My hair is very fine and medium density.

My previous shampoo and conditioner was curly girl method and contained protein. I think my hair has accumulated too much protein and it is getting dry, frizzy, crunchy. My hair tends to get weighed down by most products.

Any suggestions for conditioners or masks or leave ins that are protein free but don’t weigh hair down? I use cruelty free brands (so not L’Oreal, Kérastase etc). Open to any price range.

Also happy to get any shampoo recs. Just ordered the Aveeno ACV one based on recs here but not sure how it’ll go, keen to get backup options.

Best highlighter product for body?

Hi all,
I’m going to a wedding in summer and want my skin to look lovely and glowy. I’m looking for a nice sheen, not clumpy glitter particles. I don’t mind what format the product comes in. Any suggestions? Cheaper is preferred but happy to spend moolah if the product is amazing!

Bathroom reno, Brisbane (west) recommendations

Howdy,
We’ve just found out that our shower waterproofing has failed after discovering a leak. The bathroom is from the late 90s we think.

My understanding is that this requires a full re-do of the shower because waterproofing can’t be “fixed” per se. So we figured we might as well do the whole bathroom while we’re at it, annoying as it is.

I’d really love any recommendations for a company who can do this project for us. It’s a mid-large bathroom. We’re in the western suburbs of Brisbane.

Also if you’ve recently done a bathroom reno with a company (not DIY), I’d be keen to hear what your total expense was, just to get a rough idea. Also was there much of a wait for tradie availability?

Budget hopefully <40k. Not moving layout or plumbing. Mid-range is the idea.

What jewellery do I wear with this cocktail dress?

It’s for a wedding.
Also any suggestions on nice summer appropriate shoes that would pair well but won’t kill my feet? My feet hate strappy sandal heels 😭

Is this oval too big for my hand?

I’ve ordered a custom made 2.6ct oval solitaire ring and now I’m freaking out that it’s going to be too large on my hand.
I tried on 2ct in the store but decided to go with a slightly larger size (maybe not realising how big the difference would be, since they didn’t have it in stock).
Have just made a cutout of the diamond dimensions on paper to see what it would look like on my hand and it seems… huge 😳
I think maybe it will look even bigger when it’s set, as it will be raised and sparkly?
Open to all opinions, positive or negative.
Super excited to get my ring but just concerned I might have made a mistake on size.

Suggestions for fine vegetarian dining?

I love fine dining but I always feel so disappointed with the vegetarian options available in Brisbane. Often the vego options at casual restaurants are better than at fancy restaurants. I find that fine dining restaurants have a tendency to forget that vegetarians also enjoy a nutritionally complete meal (eg cauliflower is not a protein).

So far the best I’ve found is Rogue but looking for alternatives. Deer Duck was average. Dan Arnold was poor. Bacchus varied but is now closed.

I am not vegan.

So, with that said, where can I find delicious vegetarian food in a high end setting, that doesn’t leave me hungry after finishing my meal?

Or should I just stick with the casual restaurants dedicated to vegos and give up on fine dining?

Show me your 2.5ct oval cut solitaires!

So thanks to all the votes I got on my previous post, I finally picked oval rather than elongated cushion.

I ordered a solitaire ring with a 2.6ct oval solitaire and now I’m freaking out I might have gone too big 😬

I had gone into the store thinking I’d get a 2ct but… well… the bling got the better of me.

My finger size is 5 but I’ll check out any photos out there please 🙏 anything in a similar carat range

Which cut looks better on my hands?

Can’t decide between elongated cushion and oval for my upgrade.
Sorry for the poorly manicured hands and the dent left by my current eternity ring in the first pic

How much does the bow tie effect bother you IRL, for those with brilliant cut oval diamonds?

I really like how an oval diamond looks on my finger, moreso than the other cuts I have tried on. However, I can’t help but notice the bow tie effect in all oval diamonds that I have seen so far. I have read that one can find brilliant cut ovals that have less of a bow tie effect (but it’s impossible to eliminate altogether) or alternatively I could go with a crushed ice oval although I don’t like the look of these facets as much.

I have a tendency to overanalyse things so I’m hoping for real life experiences. If you have a brilliant cut oval, do you get used to the bow? Does it annoy you? Any advice for picking an oval with less bow? All of my local jewellers don’t keep local stock of lab diamonds so I’m having to order it from online photos which is less than ideal.

Sorry for the unmanicured fingers.
