Looking for fantasy series with ASOIAF-level immersion that you don't want to stop reading.

I read ASOIAF a few months and now I'm looking for something that gives me that same feeling of being completely absorbed into a world. The way asoiaf hooked was unreal.

I'm not necessarily looking for something with the same politics or grimdark tone. What I really love about ASOIAF is how the prose keeps making the world feel ancient, strange and alive. Even simple scenes can feel fantastical, and sometimes I keep reading just because I want to spend more time in that world.

So I'm looking for:

-Great prose, but not purple prose, -Prose that is simple but still vivid and atmospheric

  • A genuinely interesting and unique world
  • Characters that are easy to get attached to and you want spend more time with them.
  • Strong immersion and a sense that the world exists beyond the story
  • Something that keeps you wanting to read even when nothing huge is happening
  • i don't mind abt vig series or stand alone. I just want that same experience again but in a different way.

Also important note i have already read or know the usual recommendations like Cosmere, First Law, Red Rising, malazan, WOT etc., so I'm looking for something a little less obvious.

What would you recommend?

Ursula K. Le Guin's Trolley Problem.

I read The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas yesterday and am still thinking about it.

cause Is it just me or does anyone else feel like it's very similar to the trolley problem? like In the trolley problem, you're essentially choosing between saving one person or five. In the same way, this story takes that dilemma to a much larger scale one child's suffering versus the happiness of an entire city.

Ik the story has many other meanings utopia, morality, society, conformity and all but deep down, I also feel like there's a trolley problem hidden beneath it.

The more I think about the story, the more complex and believable it becomes. I actually made a short analysis of it too.

Similarities between David lynch and Satoshi kon.

I've always thought Satoshi Kon feels like the closest thing anime has to David Lynch. Not just because of the surreal visuals, but because of how both directors use dreams, absurdism, and mystery to explore the psychology of their characters and the society around them.

Ans its not just limited ot Paranoia Agent Kon's other works feel remarkably similar to David Lynch's thematically. In a way, Kon does for Japan what Lynch does for America. There are so many scenes in his films that instantly remind me of Lynch's work. what do you think of this? what other director you found similer to lynch?

This anime Is Basically Japan's Twin Peaks.

Like not just in terms of the visuals, but thematically this anime is so close to Twin Peaks. The absurdism, the hypnotic visuals, the eccentric characters, the detective storyline, and its examination of Japanese society it all fits perfectly.

Satoshi Kon feels incredibly similar to David Lynch, and there were so many scenes in this anime that instantly reminded me of Twin Peaks. i talked abt it more here

Which one should I read next. Am sooo confused.

I read first book of these 3 series almost at the same time few months ago. Then I shifted towards discworld and reading 3 discworld books and one wizard of earthsea one. So what now... I absolutely loved WOT first book and the blade itself. Though I can't say the same for red rising but it was still so much fun and fast paced. Most probably am gonna listen audiobooks for these. So which one would be best to start now.

What makes a story so much re readable for you?

Like the feelings when you finish a story and immediately wants to reread or rewatch it. Whats the secret thing in the novels, books or even movies that makes them rereadable. One thing is finding more details but thats not the only thing. Can someone give a few examples too?? Like for me I just reread piranesi and mannn it feels so much different this time. I wanted to spend more time with piranesi rather then trying to find out what will happen next what's this house is and what the other guy wants. I wnated to stay there.

Same with LOTR. I want to live with hobbits when they were celebrating. And experience every bit of wordbuiding again.

Classic or contemporary books suggestions for a fantasy fan.

I have started reading books last year and I have read so many fantasy series along the way with some thriller books too. So now I wanna step up and try reading some classic or contemporary books. What book would be best for starting. One of my frnd told me that classic books have just philosophy rambling for the whole time. I don't think that's true isn't it? So suggest me some genuinely good classic books. It would be better if they are like short 200 pages once for now. It would be easy to get into. My fav fantasy books are- piranesi, discworld books, the first law series and hobbit.

Do blue light glasses actually help with eye strain from long screen use?

I have been thinking about getting blue light glasses but am not sure if they are worth it or not. I spend around 10 hours a day on my laptop and phone. I don't wear glasses and don't have any vision problems. The main issue is eye strain, burning eyes sometimes, and sometimes discomfort around my eyelids or between my eyebrows after long screen sessions. Bright white backgrounds like Google Docs seem to make it worse, while dark mode is much more comfortable. I already use night mode/blue light filters on both my phone and laptop and my room lighting is decent too.

Soo....for people who spend a lot of time on screens, did blue light glasses actually make a any difference? Should I buy it? Or was something else more helpful? Am looking for some real experiences.

Do you people check profiles before accepting someone's chat request??

It was the best way to get know the person before talking to them imo and now reddit have ruined it like most ppl here on this sub have their pfp hidden and they have nsfw tag too like srsly man? How do we suppose to trust you when your pfp is giving clear bad signs? It helped a lot in filtering chat request and now it's gone :(( We can't even argue with someone properly now cause their past history used to help a lot in arguments lol.
