Beginner Product Advice

I’d like to start rucking. Most of my rucking will be around the neighborhood on long walks, not hiking through mountains or anything serious - at least to begin.

Should I go with a weight plate carrier? An actual backpack like a 20L Rucker 5.0? What product do I consider?

I don’t think I want a vest. Living in Florida, having the chest open is appealing. Plus the other physical benefits to the body of a backpack over a vest. But, maybe some opinions from this group will change that.

Flashlight question

I have the fenix 8 solar. Only a week in. Double tapping the top left button (backlight button) engages the flashlight feature. From there, you can select your desired level of brightness.

My question, how do I change the brightness intensity once my flashlight settings disappear after turning it on?

There’s only like a 3 second window to select your brightness level or red light before it disappears. It’s annoying to constantly turn it off and back on again to change the brightness level.

New Fenix 8 owner

Fenix 8 Solar 47mm titanium comes on Monday. First time user of the Fenix line, coming from Venu 2. Picked MIP since I live in a year round sunny state and bc the AMOLED, while nice vibrant colors, is too bright for me - even when it’s at its lowest brightness setting. Extended battery life is a nice perk as well.

Tips, tricks, things I should know?

Hoping I made a good decision!

Is there a garmin watch that operates similar to an Apple Watch when it comes to strength training? I’m talking about how Apple counts your reps, sets, and rest automatically once you start the activity. Whereas, compared to garmin, you have to click the button to start a new set each time.

Currently rocking the Venu 2. I’m ready for an upgrade after 3 years - it lacks many key features the new version and other models have, eg HRV, training readiness, etc.

My primary use cases other than walks are strength training, HIIT, rowing. I like the watch for capturing data for these activities, plus general health tracking. I also kayak sometimes, if the maps are at all helpful when on the water when I’m navigating rivers, that’s nice. Is this a good use case for the GPS on the watches?

I love the way the fenix, epix and enduro look. But there are manyyyy features I prob would never use.

Any thoughts on these models or buying advice?

Also, what are the pros/cons or things to remember when comparing AMOLED vs MIP screens?
