A thank you to Jason Salkey, and a quick documentary update (link below)

A huge thank you to Jason Salkey for sharing our documentary with the Rifleman Harris community.

The support from Sharpe fans has been fantastic and we’re now at £840. We’re just £160 away from our first £1,000 milestone. We’ve still got a long way to go, but reaching that first milestone would be a huge boost for the project.

If you’ve been following the documentary and would like to help us bring it to life, we’d be incredibly grateful. Every donation genuinely makes a difference.

Thought fans of Sharpe and British television might enjoy this scene from our short film DEADPAN (+ documentary support link)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a scene from DEADPAN, a short film that Daragh O’Malley and I made together.

The film will be released on YouTube soon, but I thought fans of British television, film and Sharpe might enjoy this preview first.

I’m also currently producing a documentary about Daragh’s extraordinary life and career, including his work on Sharpe, Divine Rapture, his friendship with Marlon Brando, and the remarkable legacy of the O’Malley family.

Progress is continuing, but fundraising has slowed recently, so if you’d like to support the documentary, any contribution would be hugely appreciated.

Here is the link to support the project:

I hope you enjoy the clip.

Documentary about actor Daragh O’Malley and his friendship with Marlon Brando

Hi everyone,

We’re currently developing an independent documentary about the unfinished 1995 Marlon Brando film Divine Rapture, which famously collapsed during production in Ireland.

At the centre of the story is Irish actor Daragh O’Malley, who was raised in Limerick and ended up forming a genuine friendship with Brando during that chaotic period. Over the years Daragh has shared some extraordinary memories and stories with us about Brando, filmmaking, Ireland and that strange moment in cinema history when this huge Hollywood production came to an abrupt end.

What makes the story even more unique is Daragh’s remarkable family history and his strong connections to Limerick. His father, Donogh O’Malley, was the Minister for Education whose introduction of free secondary education transformed opportunities for generations of Irish people, while his mother, Dr Hilda Moriarty O’Malley, was the inspiration behind Patrick Kavanagh’s poem that later became the song On Raglan Road.

We’re now bringing unseen archive material out of storage for the documentary, including original Divine Rapture footage, rare photographs and even voicemail tapes for Daragh left by Brando himself.

I thought some people here might genuinely find the story interesting given the amount of local history, Irish history and cultural discussion in this community. We’ve recently launched a public campaign to help continue developing and filming the documentary, so I’ll include the link below for anybody interested in supporting the project.

https://gofund.me/30dc214fc

If a donation isn’t possible, sharing the project is every bit as appreciated and can really help!

As part of the project, I’d also love to hear from anyone who has memories of Daragh, the O’Malley family, or any stories about them that have been passed down over the years.

I’d also love to know if any of you have favourite Daragh moments or performances over the years!

Thank you so much,

Chris

Documentary about Irish actor Daragh O’Malley and his friendship with Marlon Brando

Hi everyone,

We’re currently developing an independent documentary about the unfinished 1995 Marlon Brando film Divine Rapture, which famously collapsed during production in Ballycotton, County Cork.

At the centre of the story is Irish actor Daragh O’Malley, who ended up forming a genuine friendship with Brando during that chaotic period. Over the years Daragh has shared some extraordinary memories and stories with us about Brando, filmmaking, Ireland and that strange moment in cinema history when this huge Hollywood production came to an abrupt end.

We’ve recently launched a public campaign to help continue developing and filming the documentary, so I’ll include the link below for anybody interested in supporting the project.

https://gofund.me/30dc214fc

If a donation isn’t possible, sharing the project is every bit as appreciated and can really help!

At some stage, once we’ve secured funding for the initial shoot, we’d also love to spend time in Ballycotton speaking to people who remember the production and were affected by its collapse. If anyone here was around at the time, or knows somebody who was involved in the production, I’d love to hear from you.

I’d also love to know if any of you have favourite Daragh moments or performances over the years!

Thank you so much,

Chris

From Sharpe and Withnail & I to The Long Good Friday

Hi everyone,

If you love classic British television and cult British film, you’ll definitely recognise my close friend Daragh O’Malley.

Whether you know him as the legendary Sergeant Patrick Harper alongside Sean Bean in Sharpe, from Withnail & I, The Long Good Friday or countless other iconic productions from that era of British TV and film, Daragh has been part of so many unforgettable moments on screen over the years.

Over the course of our friendship, Daragh has told me incredible stories about Sharpe, filmmaking, Ireland, Richard Harris, Sean Bean and that whole world of British television and film from the 80s and 90s.

We’re making an independent documentary with Daragh centred around his extraordinary friendship with Marlon Brando during the collapse of the unfinished 1995 film Divine Rapture in Ireland.

We will also be bringing unseen material out of storage for the documentary, including original Divine Rapture footage, rare photographs and even voicemail tapes left for Daragh by Brando himself.

But honestly, the documentary has also become a huge celebration of Sharpe, Patrick Harper and that whole era of British television and film. We’d love to preserve these stories properly while we still can.

Truthfully, independent filmmaking is hard and we’re currently trying to raise the initial funds to get cameras rolling ourselves. The core shoot would involve spending time with Daragh in Ireland alongside filming interviews connected to Sharpe and that era of British TV and film. We’d also love, at some stage, to sit down with Sean Bean himself to talk about those years making Sharpe alongside Daragh and the friendship they built over so many years together.

If anybody would like to support the documentary, the campaign link is here:

Daragh O’Malley Documentary Project

Hi everyone,

I’m going to be completely honest with you all, this is one where we really need the Sharpe community to rally behind us.

A few years ago, as a huge Sharpe fan myself, I reached out to Daragh about starring in a short film I was making, and I honestly couldn’t believe it when he agreed to come on board. We immediately hit it off, and over the last few years we’ve become very close friends. Now my co-director Marko and I are developing a documentary centred around Daragh’s extraordinary friendship with Marlon Brando during the collapse of the unfinished 1995 film Divine Rapture in Ireland.

But honestly, alongside the Brando side of things, this documentary has also become a huge celebration of Sharpe itself, Patrick Harper, and all the incredible stories and memories that came out of that world. The more time I’ve spent with Daragh, the more I’ve realised just how many fascinating stories came out of those years making Sharpe, both on and off screen.

For me personally, Sergeant Patrick Harper is one of the greatest characters ever, and clearly still means so much to people decades later.

We’ve been uncovering unseen archive material connected to the project, including original Divine Rapture footage, rare photographs and even voicemail tapes left for Daragh by Brando himself.

Truthfully, independent filmmaking is hard, and we’re currently trying to get the core filming of the documentary properly off the ground ourselves. The core shoot would involve spending time with Daragh in Ireland, alongside filming interviews in London with contributors connected to Sharpe and that world. We’d also love, at some stage, to sit down with Sean Bean himself to talk about those years making Sharpe alongside Daragh, and the friendship they built over so many episodes and years together.

If anybody would like to support the documentary and help us get cameras rolling, the campaign link is here:

P.S. The last photo is of Vincent, Daragh’s parrot, who may end up stealing the entire film.
