What are the similarities and differences in philosophy and theology of abrahamic religions?

Hi everyone!

My question is as stated in the title.

Are there any huge differences in the philosophy of the three abrahamic faiths?

I am no expert in philosophy, so to me it seems as if the theology and philosophy is almost the same.

So I'm curious whether there actually are any huge differences, or whether it's mostly similar.

Like, an argument for Christianity or for Christian god would work just as fine for the Islamic understanding of god, no?

Also, what are some famous philosophers of each abrahamic faith? I know a handful of christians, a few Muslim ones, and almost none Jewish. So, I'm curious?

The problem of divine hidennes

Assalamualaikum

I've lately struggled a lot with the problem of divine hidennes.

If god is real, why does he not guide sincere seekers?

We see it all the time. Genuinely open minded people, people seeking truth, Intelligent philosophers who study theology and philosophy for years and....arrive at the conclusion that god doesn't exist. Doesn't this prove so? That god doesn't exist.

In the Quran god says he will guide those who seek, yet I can't seem to see it in real life.

am I supporting oppression by wearing hijab?

Assalamualaikum

I'm writing this post in the middle of the night, exhausted, and my message or train of thoughts may be messy.

I came across videos of women in countries like Iran and Afghanistan. What they experience is absolutely horrific....

Now, I get this fear.. what if my faith IS the issue? And what if by wearing my hijab, even though I love it, choose it, and feel comfortable in it, means that I support oppresion?

Women in so many countries cannot take their hijab off and are forced..

Shouldn't I take mine off to show support?

I feel so-so guilty...

Struggling heavily with it all. Not sure why I'm posting this and what exactly I want to hear..

Feel free to dm me, or just comment anything...

No hate under this post, please, I've seen enough hatred already.

Feels as if I'm making up my own religion

Assalamualaikum

I just wanted to come here and complain. I have just settled yet another issue within religion that bothered me. I am not interested to name the issue because I'm not interested in debating it, and also because it's not a singular case when I experience this. The conclusion i arrived to makes perfect sense for me. Even though many of the views i hold are minority or non orthodox.

But..I get this constant, almost background anxiety...

What if I'm wrong? What if I'm just bending the text? What if I'm just coping? What if I'm making up a new religion? What if I'm just lying to myself? What if...-

It bothers me and I don't know how to deal with it.

If the story of lut is about rape, why did lut offer his daughters?

Assalamualaikum!

This question is specifically towards progressive Muslims or so who believe that same sex actions are not Haram.

My question is as stated in the title.

If the story of lut is ONLY about rape and had nothing to do with same sex actions, why would lut offer his daughters?

It makes sense in the traditional reading, as a suggestion to accept something "lawful" instead of "unlawful".

I'm currently seeking different perspectives on the story of lut, so I'm curious what you guys think.

WARNING ⚠️ I just want to say it clear, I am not homophobic, I do not support any hatred and do not wish to see any bigotry beneath this post, regardless if one holds the traditional or more progressive view. I'm just trying to see both sides of the discussion. Regardless of divine boundaries everyone shall be treated with respect and dignity.

Why are you muslim/what keeps you muslim?

Assalamualaikum!

As stated in the title ,my question is:

Why do you believe in islam/stay muslim?

If any of you are too lazy, don't have time, or can not for whatever reason read the whole post, then you don't need to and can just focus on the question.

For those who have the time and opportunity, I want to give a little bit of context to my question, because it is not random.

I am a progressive muslim. Deeply focused on ethics, rationalism, progressive application, and etc. This leads to me being quite...displeased with the modern state of the Islamic word and muslim countries/socities. Sometimes this leads to me thinking....why not just abond this all?

It seems exhausting to have both defend my view from conservative or extremist people, and from secular white people, ex muslims, critics and so. I fit absolutely nowhere. And it all is so heavy.. to read long essays, constantly think and reflect, watch lectures, seek all kind of knowledge to know what's true, what's not, what can be improved. ALOT can be improved. I feel so hopeless.

And I also worry...what if I am in the wrong. What if I'm backing the wrong horse. Maybe the conservatives are right. Maybe the critics are right. Maybe .......

So... I'm curious what keeps you on your faith? On your religious journey?

Btw, a small wish of mine is to NOT create any debates under this post. I cannot command or demand anything, but I would appreciate it if we keep this quite positive, helpful and understanding, instead of another field of disagreement.

What scholars do you like?

Assalamualaikum!

So, as the title states, I'm curious about which scholars or imams you like and tend to listen too?

I need some inspo to whom I can listen too, to rebuild my relationships with islam.

I only know abou El fadhl and Abu layth.

Those are absolutely amazing scholars of course!

But I'm curious if there are more progressive or less dogmatic and conservative scholars.

Another thing is that in my experience, many progressive scholars use time on heavy topics, debates, disputes, fiqq and so on. That is ABSOLUTELY amazing! I am forever thankful for their hard work and believe this is absolutely necessary and beneficial for the muslim word. However...sometimes I just want something that would make me feel calmer, more faithful, connected to god and faith, rather than having a mental debate in my head.

Though, I would appreciate absolutely ANY kind of scholar, Imam, or any person of knowledge as a recommendation!

May god bless you!

Is the majority right? Why?

Is the majority within a certain group right most of the time? Of course not always since that would be impossible, but if we take experts on one topic, or people of knowledge within a certain area, isn't it "logical" to believe that the majority is right?;

I am having trouble formulating the question properly, and I am no way a knowledgeable person in philosophy, but I'm just trying to get some answers to key questions.

Like, let's say for example religion, just theoretically

If the majority Believes in certain interpretation of the scripture, is it probably the right one? Since most of the people who studied it arrived at that conclusion. Is it intellectually dishonest to follow a minority view?

Or like, if let's say the majority of philosophers are atheists, doesn't it mean that atheists are automatically true, since "most experts" arrived there? (Btw the claim about most philosophers being atheist is just something I made up rn, j have no clue if it's true or not, that is not the point I'm simply using it as an example and way to formulate my idea) ;

Of course when I say the majority I mean the majority within the group of people who have knowledge on that topic, not just the general majority of random people who may not know enough to make sane judgement.

Or another example, in personal life I often see myself agreeing with different minority groups, yet I question whether I should just trust the majority of "experts" since how can all those smart, educated people who know much more than me, be wrong? (This may not neccecarily apply to questions about religion or truth or something huge, again, those were just easy examples to show my point)

Is my morality - objective or subjective?

If I believe pain is objectively bad, but the morality of actions are context and intention based, do I believe in subjective or objective morality?

Hey everyone! I decided to first write my question straightforwardly, to gather some attention. Now a bit of explanation. I am no philosopher but I'm slowly getting into it. Ive been reading a bit about morality, and slowly forming my own view. Yet I feel as if my view doesn't neatly fit in neither objective morality, nor subjective. I am struggling with formulating this question, alongside with my view, but I'm still trying to, and would like some help.

P.s I am not here to debate that opinion, neither for, nor against, just trying to understand where i am at rn, and then figure out all the arguments against or for.

I believe certain things are wrong, regardless of human approval. I believe objective truths exist, like pain or suffering is bad. But I also believe that there isn't a list with things that "oh, this is bad, this is not". It depends on the context, society, intentions, result, etc and etc.

So, does it fit more into objective, or subjective morality?

Again, I'm just getting into it all, so I might seem ignorant and both my logic and question might be flawed, please don't judge me harshly.

Was the sole/main purpose of hijab social differences?

Assalamualaikum

This issue has been bothering me a lot lately, making me question my whole faith. I know that historically many early jurists and rulers forbid slaves from wearing hijab. I used to view it as a human mistake in interpretation. However, when even someone like Umar did it..

It makes me question. Maybe the hijab was made purposefully to disqiunish free from non free? If so then it's cruel to me, and I'm not sure if I can believe that such a rule would be from a just god.

Would appreciate any kind of help please.

I feel hatred towards the companion of the prophet. Doubting it all.

Assalamualaikum.

\

I don't even know where to start or what I want. Not sure if this is the right place either, but almost every other space deletes my posts, so..

I am feeling completely lost. I desperately need someone to talk to, someone of knowledge would be great, but honestly absolutely anyone works.

\

My relationships with faith have always been quite complicated. Now I'm on the verge of leaving, as I did once In the past.

\

I got to learn the tiniest bit more about one of the companions of the prophet, Umar ibn al-khattab.

I don't know how to word it respectfully, but I absolutely despise him. If he is a person so close to a supposed messenger of god... Then I have huge questions about the prophet and the god.

Many other hadith and historical issues have also arisen.

I don't go too much into detail since I fear spreading misinformation or doubt, which won't help anyone.

\

Would appreciate any comment, any message. The topic might be heavy or emotional.

Self conscious because of my hijab and progressive views

Assalamualaikum!

I am a young girl who wears the hijab. It is fully my choice, and I love it. But lately, I have been doubting it. Not because I personally don't like it, but because of my fears of how people see me and.. especially my future and future relationships.

I have quite progressive views, both in religion and general. I am open minded and not judgemental. But I constantly have this fear that people will judge me even before they know me... Some definitely do. That they will think I'm stupid, conservative, brainwashed, oppressed, coerced, boring, etc etc.

Another huge fear is that...the type of men I like, would never even look in my direction, just because of the scarf on my head. I like poetic men, soft spoken, musical and artistic and poetic. A pianist who plays piano and then prays.. a poet with longing for god...

Yet, I feel as if those men are reserved for other women.. not me. My only option is an oppresive conservative dogmatic man.. I'd rather never marry, then marry someone like that.

One might say its all in my head.. might be true. But I don't know what to do. Would appreciate any kind of help.
