Been "off grid" so to speak for 15 years. Now what?

I haven't had and cards, loans, etc for about 15 years. I really had not cared about my score. My "new" wife want to buy a home. She has excellent credit as I am reminded about it weekly. I checked my credit with the three as well as my FICO score.

Apparently, my record only shows precious addresses and phone numbers. Shows no activity, no debts, no collections. I do not have a FICO score. CreditKarma shows I have one score from one company.

Should I be worried? I don't not want any credit cards.

Using insurance when selling a home.

We are selling our home and the inspection came back.

Roof: 12 years into the 20 year life. Said it needed some repairs but said the roof need replaced. I haven't seen specifics yet, or pictures.

Septic field: 12 years old. Said the distribution box needs to be replaced. $3500.

Is it possible to use home owners insurance for any of this?

Thanks.

Distribution box/inspection

I just had an inspection due to selling the home. Findings says the distribution box needs to be replaced and replace "up to 6 lines as necessary." The cost estimate is $3,500. What could cause the box to need replacing? Also, could the lines just be cleared as an option at a lesser cost?

Auxiliary Benefit for child.

I just started early retirement. I have a 16 year old son who lives with my ex wife. She has not remarried. SSA has sent me a letter asking about auxiliary benefits for my son. If he is eligible, will my ex wife have to abide by an earnings limit? Also, who has to apply for my son? Me or my ex wife?

Applying for SS and SSDI

I am applying for SS benefits at 63. I am planning to file for SSDI as some point. Hopefully I did not make a mistake. I afraid that my SS application will be delayed because I answered questions about not working since December and they wanted me to continue with the SSDI application.

What is the best way of knowing for sure that my application for just SS has begun?

How to address gap in employment.

I was layed off in January. I was 6 weeks in to STD. I was ready to get back to work on light duty. I still had 12 weeks of rehab and 8 weeks of PT ahead of me. I stayed on STD for the full 26 weeks. Resumes have been sent out and continuing. How do i address this gap when asked? Do I explain the surgery and STD? Also, I am 62.

File for SSDI, and unemployement?

I am 63. My STD has ended. I sincerely believe that I will not be able to hold a new job due to medical reasons.

I realize that attempting to work will hinder my application. I have never been unemployed until my layoff while on STD. My ego and finances are telling me to at least try. If I try, and have to quit, this will make me lose unemployment benefits. I have not collected any benefits yet.

Not having any source of income and the long approval process for SSDI also scares me.

The other option I am considering is collecting SS early, and possibly working part time instead of even trying for SSDI.

Opinions and experiences please.

Thank you.

Harry was here.

I just finished the series for the 3rd time. I thought that I would be able to get through the final episode without tears this time. Nope! It just keeps getting better each time. So we'll done.
