40 years on I still have recurring dreams about what I saw

I was 10 living in Scotland in a 5 bedroom house outside Edinburgh. The house was huge and built in the mid 18th century.

I was sleeping and woke up feeling cold and had the overwhelming sense that someone was in my bedroom standing over me.

Seconds past... then a minute......and I felt more and more scared but eventually I found the courage to face it.

What I saw was the burned charcoal-colour legs of a man. I only saw his torso. He was a large guy and had an air of menace about him. I ran out of the room to my parents room which was a fair distance away literally screaming. My mother still to this day (she's old now!) says that she'd never seen me look so white and pale with fear and genuinely scared.

I know what I saw and the experience has remained with me ever since.

I was unable to sleep in my room for a very long time.

I still dream about him harassing me, maybe once every two or three months, and have done for the last 40 years. I kid you not.

Turns out that the house was known for being haunted.

The local village had a shop in which my mother told the owner where she lived and the owner said, 'Ah you'll soon meet the ghost of Gallands House'

My bedroom was in the old servants quarters that had a private spiral staircase and my mother and grandmother (who stayed once in a while) heard someone running up and down the stairs on several occasions.

Turns out that there was a fire in the house and I suspect my ghost 'friend' died horribly.

I always always always felt like I was being watched in that house, like I was being followed.

Still to this day, I'm a 50 year old dude now, strongly believe I saw and felt something, and I still have these dreams about him. He's angry and mean....

So, there's my story....

How reliable are the trams for 0430 am?

I have an easyJet flight at 0700, thinking of getting the tram at 0430 from Haymarket - is it "reliable"? I mean, do they run late ever?

Just being a bit anxious b/c getting a cab at that hour might be tricky if the tram is late

Th new promenade from Kennedy Town to Causeway Bay - best start point?

Asking for opinions on the best starting point with reference to being able to park a car?

I have two small kids so kinda need a place to park up.

Has anyone here done the entire thing? Keen to hear thoughts - thanks!

I guess I'm also asking which is the more scenic - thinking that CWB would be?

Second hand gaming shops in Edinburgh?

My son is really into his Switch, and as the title suggests wondering if there are any shops that sell the game cartridges?

Don't mind buying new but I figure I may as well get a bunch of them, so used games would be even better

Thanks

Anyone have issues with 1Password and Fedora?

Whenever I reactivate my machine from sleep I can't log back into 1Password.

My password is always 'wrong' when I know it's not.

Anyone else had this experience?

Thoughts about Core Web Vitals in 2026?

My client is obsessed with CWV and I can't say I'm too convinced.

Yes - compress images, minify CSS/JS and try your best to remove unused JavaScript (place at the footer etc etc) - but my overall point - is the juice worth the squeeze especially in 2026?

Surely CDN's and edge caching etc has taken care of a lot of latency issues?

My overall point here is that I'd rather place the Tech towards entity-relationship improvements over improving load speed for 0.002 seconds for a skinny site of 200 URLs that gets like 200 visits a day.

You get my point on this?

Anyone here order a IDP Driving Licence via IAM Smart?

Says it takes 10 days....did you get it any faster than that?

I urgently need it before the 7th July so you think I'm best to go to the actual building and try to cancel the mailed version?

Database to search registered plates?

Does anyone know if it's possible to search for registered plates?

Otherwise how do you know if it's taken? No point going through the process if it's been taken....

Missing the AI Features in Chrome Canary - any ideas why?

Like the title says - I am missing the "AI Mode" on the left and I am also missing the required flags.

I correctly downloaded Canary - just weird that I can't see any of the features or ability to set it.

Any ideas on what I did 'wrong'?

Do I have to be on a US IP or something?

Thanks

Found a crab hiking in HK island - normal?

I was hiking and this bright red crab was in my path all aggressive with it's claws out

Location was the twins - at the bottom bit where you hit that bridge with the option to go up violet hill

Anyways - I always thought crabs were a sea thing - is it weird to see a crab like this so high up?

Literally never seen a crab in 11 years of hiking every other weekend

Anyway - thought I'd share...

Cure tickets for Cardiff (I'll sell at face value)

Sorry mods not sure if allowed but I have 2 tickets for the cure this Wednesday

I can't sell them on the app so I can only transfer

Let me know if anyone is interested

I'm not interested in making a profit just face value.

They are general admission tickets

Hong Kong Custom Car Plate 1 or I

I understand that if you wanted for example "MARIO" your plate would be "MAR1O" because the initial I does not exist.

So - why do I see cars with "I" in a custom plate?

Like, do you just have to ask for a favour when then guy prints the plate and ask nicely to use an "I"?

Hope that makes sense

Thanks

Just got diagnosed...should I be worried?

The cardio said no - but he said it's something to monitor and we have to have follow up appointments but essentially it's a manageable condition as long as it doesn't escalate

Would you agree with the above?

I understand that this isn't a medical forum but personal thoughts and experiences would be very welcome

Feeling slightly overwhelmed atm

Thanks

Question on General Liability Policy and Cyber Insurance

I'm a small business owner trying to get insurance to sell online with a major US retailer.

I need a general liability policy ($1M/$5M) and a cyber policy ($1M) that includes regulatory fines/penalties.

Anyone have any experience with this or advise a vendor?

  • Did they understand complex vendor requirements?
  • Were they responsive and helpful?
  • Any to avoid?

Thanks in advance!

Missing the 'Add custom connector' option...anyone else?

Does anyone else have a missing 'Add custom connector'?

I don't see it at all...

I click the + then I see the connectors....and wherever I scroll there's no option that I can see to add a custom connector.

Please tell me that I am missing something!

Thanks

Happy with Mullvad - but it keeps disconnecting on Windows 11

Mullvad works faultlessly on Linux but I notice that on my Windows 11 box it drops in and out repeatedly every few hours.

I change location but that doesn't help.

I am certain it is due to some firewalls that I have on the machine (the router has no firewalls that I set up).

Anyone else have this issue?
