purse charms for my family ✨

i have some incredibly cool elders in my family; they taught me to craft, sew and construct as a child and have been endlessly supportive in my creative endeavours.

the first one is for my aunt, who took me to experience 00’s taipei street fashion in the coolest neighbourhoods at the time. the second one for my mom, who is a minimalist and a lover of chunky handbags.

chinese lucky knots, but make them alt

i upcycled these from thrifted paracord and costume jewellery. stainless steel rings and findings are new, though.

what did i find at the thrift store today?

hi everyone! i found these two pieces at the thrift today, they were $50 CAD total. are they the world’s roundest fresh water pearls? i know they’re real, they’ve gone in my mouth (i gently washed them first don’t worry)

the necklace is 22 inches, including the clasp. the clasp is marked “14KT”. the whole thing came in a dusty The Bay box.

the ring is marked 14KTE (so i assume it is electroplated?). is the pearl on the ring dyed? it’s a gorgeous golden yellow i’ve never seen on a pearl before IRL.

the lustre on both pieces are lovely! i can see my whole face. and you can see my phone in the reflection.

i’ve never seen a shine as translucent and organic (for lack of a better word) than on that string!

local thrift store goblin presents: purse chain upcycle

i made a triple-decker purse chain for a leather tote i found at the thrift store, using some semi-precious sparklies i harvested from costume jewellery (which i also found at the thrift store). the stainless steel hardware and jump rings i did buy new, or already had at home.

i think the beads are maybe quartz and fluorite? let me know if you know what they could be!

i’m making modular bag chain attachments to upcycle this leather bag

a few weeks ago, i found a massimo dutti bag at the thrift. sometimes i indulge in a little thrift store fast fashion if it’s a natural material and i can formulate a vision for it.

all the hardware is stainless steel (she’s a little heavy 😅). the beads are semi-precious gemstones that i harvested from thrift store jewellery. i’ll continue to make different chains for mixing and matching, as well as hanging charms to clip on to the steel bolts

hand painted leather bag!

i found this at the thrift store yesterday. i love its coiled handle and how the dye has faded with time. its lining has 2 pockets and 2 elastic slots for pens, too!

got 2 leather bags for $23 today

the first one is a massimo dutti cow leather tote. i don’t care much for the brand but it will be fun to upcycle with stainless steel chain mail.

the second one is hand painted on both sides. it has a thick lining inside with two pockets and two elastic slots for pens. no maker’s mark that i can find.

also i paid in CAD so this was like $16.50 USD

here’s what 3 months of learning to chain mail looks like

first up are the first chain mail earrings i ever made. they’re a set of 3, meant to be worn on the same ear. i have no idea what material the jump rings are, i got them from a friend.

next up are some stainless steel earrings, decked out with some eyebrow piercing jewellery. it’s a variation on an orc weave and i had fun coming up with it.

finally, we got a stacked necklace and a bracelet! they’re part of a set.

i hope you enjoy what i made! i’m proud of my journey so far and i’m excited to learn more

AITC for returning a receipt

greetings, council. i am a distinguished 14-year-old gentleman with fine tabby coat and a Ph.D in children's storybooks.

the other night, i acquired a receipt while no one was looking. after dinnertime, my luxuriously fluffy tum did not feel so good and i did return the receipt to my human assistant.

they berated me, saying "how did you eat that entire thing?" which i took offence to. i expected them to be grateful their item returned to them in one piece.

aitc? i will admit i left the receipt slightly damp, but being called a “bad guy express” was quite an indignity.

2 days, 1 month & 3 months of chain mail!

back in april, my friend gave me her jewellery making supplies. i struggled with some tutorials online and made a set of 3 earrings, to be worn on the same ear, for myself.

a month later, i bought my first pack of stainless steel rings so i can make stuff that lasts a long time. i also got some cheap “surgical steel” piercing jewellery to incorporate into weave units.

the last picture is my most recent set! i finished it over a week ago. i’m actually very proud of it because i made that necklace during a ridiculous chronic health flare that affected my vision and kept me housebound (so i really needed something to do).

i’d love to know what you think! also, i would love to know how to tell people that no, i dont want to sell. i am not skilled enough to sell at this point, and by the time i am i know i will not want to.

pearl ID request: were these a good deal or did i accidentally rob my thrift store?

hi, i bought an 80” knotted string of pearls at the thrift store for $10. now, i’m no expert but i do feel like i lucked out slightly. they are about 8-9mm in diameter. will someone please tell me about my find?

EDIT: thanks everyone, you were so helpful! i love my beautiful freshwater sparkles and i’ll make sure they get plenty of love

i like to upcycle thrifted pearls into chainmail jewellery. here’s a necklace.

hi, i’m usually a commenter not a poster here but i’m kind of bed bound most of the day right now so i thought i’d give sharing my creations a go.

i used 304 annealed stainless steel jump rings in assorted sizes, a stainless steel septum ring, silver miyuki seed beads, stainless steel findings and 15 pearls i scavenged from my local thrift store.

i hope you like it, thanks for looking!
