Why does it feel like having a genuine connection is so complicated nowadays?

Maybe I’m just old-school, but I still believe in getting to know someone genuinely instead of constantly looking for the next option. I value clear communication, consistency, loyalty, and actually putting effort into something when you care about the person.

It feels like people nowadays are almost afraid of showing too much interest. Everyone wants to play it cool, keep their options open, and act like they don’t care—even when they obviously do.

Personally, I don’t think wanting something genuine and consistent is asking for too much.

Maybe I really was born in the wrong generation 😂

Do you think people used to take relationships more seriously, or do we just look back at the past with rose-colored glasses?

22M (M4F) | India | Software Engineer | Looking for a genuine, long-term connection

Hi everyone!

I'm a 22-year-old software engineer from Noida, India. I started my first full-time job about 3 months ago, so these days life is mostly work, commuting, and figuring out this whole adulting thing 😄. I’m naturally introverted, so putting myself out here is definitely a little outside my comfort zone.

Who I'm looking for:

I'm hoping to meet someone around my age (roughly 20–26), preferably another introvert or someone who understands what it's like to enjoy their own space. I'm open to talking to people from anywhere, though someone from India or who is familiar with Indian culture would probably make things a little easier.

What I'm specifically looking for:

I'm looking for a genuine, long-term connection rather than something casual or short-lived. That could start as friendship and naturally develop into a relationship if we genuinely click. I'm not looking to rush into anything—I’d rather get to know someone properly, build trust, and see where things go.

I value honesty, loyalty, kindness, consistency, and clear communication. I'm not really into playing games, disappearing for days, or pretending not to care just to seem "cool." I'd much rather have conversations where both people are genuinely interested in getting to know each other.

A little about me: I'm into tech and AI (occupational hazard 😄), and I enjoy talking about life, different cultures, travel, food, movies, random internet rabbit holes, and pretty much anything interesting. I’m also a good listener and genuinely enjoy hearing people's stories and perspectives.

If you're also an introvert looking for something genuine and long-term, feel free to send me a message. Tell me a little about yourself when you do—I’d love to have a proper conversation rather than just exchanging "hey" and "how are you?" 😄

Looking forward to meeting some good people!

Does anyone else ever randomly remember something embarrassing from 10 years ago while trying to fall asleep? 😂

I swear my brain waits until everything is quiet before replaying moments I'd completely forgotten about.

What's your most random "why did my brain remind me of THAT?" memory?

I think our brains assign personalities to random objects.

I can't explain it, but I have certain objects that instantly change my mood. One hoodie makes me feel safe, one mug makes mornings feel better, and one chair somehow makes me more productive.

It's weird how our brains create these random associations.

Does anyone else have something completely ordinary that has this effect on them?

I'd love to hear your stories. And if anyone enjoys talking about random psychology or everyday observations, my DMs are open too.

Random thought: Do you think people are becoming more emotionally distant, or are we just getting better at hiding what we actually feel?

I've noticed that a lot of conversations stay on the surface these days, even with people we've known for years. Maybe online platforms have something to do with it, or maybe life just gets busier as we get older.

Curious to hear what everyone thinks. If you'd rather share your opinion privately instead of commenting, feel free to inbox me. I'd genuinely like to hear different perspectives.

I accidentally trained my brain to think one specific lamp means "it's time to work.

This sounds ridiculous, but I bought a cheap desk lamp a few months ago and only turned it on when I was working.

Now, whenever that lamp is on, I instantly feel like opening my laptop and getting things done. If I work anywhere else, I procrastinate way more.

It's like I accidentally created a Pavlovian response for productivity.

Has anyone else unintentionally conditioned themselves like this? Doesn't have to be about work—it could be a smell, song, chair, hoodie, or anything weird that your brain now associates with a specific mood or behavior.

What's a tiny inconvenience that irrationally ruins your mood?

I'll start:

When I walk into a room and completely forget why I went there. Then I walk back, remember, walk in again... and forget again.

It's such a small thing, but somehow it feels like my brain is trolling me.

What's your oddly specific, completely harmless inconvenience that always gets under your skin?

Kinda really bored right now 😭

If anyone's looking for a new friend, wants to rant, vent, or just have some random banter, feel free to DM me. I'm down to talk about pretty much anything—life, memes, games, music, or whatever's on your mind.

No pressure, just looking to kill some boredom and maybe make a few new friends. :)

22M | Software Engineer | Introvert from India looking for a genuine, long-term connection

Hi everyone!

I'm a 22-year-old software engineer based in Noida, India, and I started my first full-time job about 3 months ago. These days, life mostly revolves around work, commuting, and figuring out this whole adulting thing, so I thought I'd step out of my comfort zone and make this post.

I'm an introvert and a pretty empathetic person. I value meaningful conversations, enjoy listening to people's stories, and prefer genuine connections over small talk. Making new friends doesn't come naturally to me, but I believe the best friendships—and relationships—are built on honesty, kindness, and mutual respect.

I'm looking for a long-term connection, whether that's a close friendship or, if we genuinely click, something more. I'm in no rush and would rather let things develop naturally.

A little about me: I'm into tech and AI (comes with being a software engineer 😄), and I enjoy talking about life, different cultures, travel, food, movies, random internet rabbit holes, and just about anything interesting. Since people here are from all over the world, I'd love to learn about your experiences, wherever you're from.

If you're looking for someone to have genuine conversations with and see where things go, feel free to send me a message. Looking forward to meeting some amazing people!

M22 | Software Engineer in Noida | Looking for random conversations

Hey!

I'm 22 and recently joined a software company in Noida as a software engineer (about 3 months ago). Adult life has basically become work, commute, eat, sleep, repeat, and I'm realizing it's surprisingly easy to get bored after office hours.

Looking for people to have random, low-pressure conversations with. We can talk about tech, AI, career, life after college, travel, food, music, movies, current events, weird internet rabbit holes, or literally anything interesting.

Not looking for anything specific—just good conversations with new people. Maybe some long-term friendships.

If you're also bored or just feel like talking, feel free to DM or drop a comment.

Why do some people block without saying anything?

Had a weird experience recently and wanted to know if anyone else has gone through something similar.

A girl had made a post on the Kanpur subreddit saying she was looking to make friends. Since I'm also from Kanpur, I commented on her post. She asked me to DM her, so I did.

We ended up talking for almost an hour. The conversation was genuinely good, our thoughts matched on a lot of things, and she even shared her Instagram, saying she was more active there. Everything felt completely normal. Since it was around 1 AM, we both said good night and went to sleep.

The next morning, I woke up to find that she had blocked me on both Instagram and Reddit without any explanation.

What I don't understand is... why? If someone doesn't want to continue talking, that's completely okay. Nobody owes anyone a friendship or conversation. But why not just say, "Hey, I don't think this is going to work," or simply stop replying? Blocking someone out of nowhere, especially after having a perfectly normal conversation, just feels disrespectful and honestly a bit humiliating.

I'm not posting this to hate on her or generalize about girls. I'm just trying to understand this behavior because it left me genuinely confused.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any idea why people do this?
