Off season shit post.
SoFi stadium employs Harris's hawks (Parabuteo unicinctus) as part of an eco-friendly falconry program to control nuisance wildlife like seagulls, ducks, and geese.
These hawks work in several ways for the overall benefit of the stadium:
Sanitation: Large crowds and the stadium's massive artificial lake attract gulls and waterfowl that leave messes on property and tailgating areas.
Safety: The venue sits directly in the arrival flight path for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), making bird-strike prevention critical.
Non-lethal Deterrent: Raptors / trained pairs (such as Bubba and Alice) naturally scare away pests by establishing a predatory presence without harming them.
On September 28, 2025, there were 2 hawks on patrol, both owned / handled by falconer Charles Cogger:
Alice, a 20-year-old trained Harris's hawk
And Bubba
This was the week 4 thriller Colts game a la I'm a fuckin dawg! I'm a fuckin dawg
Someone at some point stole the golf cart housing both birds before the game
It is unknown whether the perpetrator knew the birds were on the golf cart. He just fuckin jumped in the cart and drove miles away off sofi property. I'm not clear on how the birds were released / got out.
It was postulated that the birds would likely die within several days without their source of food and water as they'd known it
However, on Oct 6, a local resident spotted Bubba in their Hacienda Heights yard (roughly 25 miles from the stadium) and alerted the Inglewood Police Department, allowing falconer and owner Charles Cogger to reclaim the bird.
On March 25 2026, police id a suspect
Unfortunately, Alice has yet to be found.
On a personal note, weirdly, I was at this game with my Mom. We were tailgating early in the pink lot, and we walked by that guy and those 2 birds in that golf cart and we went up to them and had a quick conversation with the gentleman and looked at the hawks. This must have been mere minutes before the incident. Charles was cheery af. I had no idea about the hawks and I was genuinely amazed not only by the degree to which he had trained these birds but by the ingenuity of the entire concept.
Only later did I hear about what happened. I think it goes without saying that the kind of person who does something like this deserves punishment.
Maybe Alice will show up, though at this point it's unlikely.
Rams fans should be aware of this dynamic. If your drunk or diabolical friend thinks it's going to be funny to steal a golf cart at sofi stadium right before a game, for the love of God incapacitate them.
Given the somewhat turbulent nature of the franchise over the past few decades, we've shed a lot of fans. It's hard to leave a city and leave your fans feeling abandoned, then come back to that city. Especially in a city like LA with so much going on that it's not exactly a "football town". Which left only the real ones. But, the franchise has been ruggedly and deservedly clawing back fans through their performance but moreso imo the incredible culture and diligence that come from the McSnead tree.
Now, though, we're popular. We're the cool kids at school. We're the prohibitive sb favorites, and that kind of attention, to be blunt, attracts a lot of bandwagoners.
And with that, we're also the target now across the league. Everyone is coming for us. Or at least trying to.
Not that we don't welcome new fans, God knows we need them. But I think we'd all be well served to pay those McSnead values and virtues and the things that make this franchise great forward, sideways, up and down, fans included.
Anyway, I've never been more excited for a season over my 27 year fanship! Go Rams!
