In the unlikely event that anyone finds themselves in a similar situation, I'm writing this to hopefully save you some time and annoyance.
I have a Pace 500, first generation. It has an M5 display with a 5-pin connector. Recently, the cover/frame of the display popped off on one corner, exposing the LCD undernearth, and the LCD panel started bulging out from its housing.
I initially tried to super-glue it back on, but that didn't work (don't do that). So then I looked into purchasing a replacement. Aventon only sells a newer display that comes to over $80 with shipping, so then I thought could get one off Aliexpress for like $20.
I naively thought another display with a 5-pin connector would work (like a computer monitor connecting to a computer), but that was wrong--the display connected and the bike powered on, but it gave an error message and the motor wouldn't deliver any power to the wheels, because it turns out the controller and display need to be able to talk to each other with a specific protocol.
The standard protocol these days appears to be UART-2, but Pace 500.1 is apparently a model-specific protocol of UART-1, which I could not find for sale anywhere else, and evidently UART-2 displays are NOT backwards-compatible, at least not with the Pace 500.1. (I never actually made it this far, but apparently the specific protocol needed is J-LCD/618U-compatible M5.)
Turned out the easiest thing was: Just take it to a cell phone repair shop! I found an independent place and they said it might only cost around $20 to reseat the LCD in the housing and reseal the cover/frame over it. I came back 20 minutes later, and they gave it back to me fixed and said "no charge."
Traffic was crawling along, and I only caught a glimpse in my peripheral because I was three lanes over and it must have just happened right before I passed it. Multiple cars stopped to help. He looked to be moving.
I hope he's ok. Stay safe, everybody.
Just got a job offer that would mean commuting on the 5 about 15 miles each way. I'm a casual rider, and my bike got stolen about 2 years ago, but I'm strongly getting another bike so I can commute that way rather than sitting in stop-and-go traffic for an hour each way. How is the 5 between Dodger Stadium and Downey for lane-splitting? Anything to be aware of? Thanks.
Edit: Based on the comments, I'm thinking this is probably not a great idea. Thanks for the help, everybody.
And do they sleep in them?
Convince me that that isn't what happened at the end of the "The Hunted"! This is the end of the episode:
>NAYROK: Picard, you can't leave us like this.
>PICARD: I have all the information I need for our report. Your prisoner has been returned to you and you have a decision to make. Whether to try to force them back or welcome them home. In your own words, this is not our affair. We cannot interfere in the natural course of your society's development, and I'd say it's likely to develop significantly in the next several minutes. It's been an interesting visit. When you're ready for membership, the Federation will be pleased to reconsider your application. Mister Riker, four to beam up.
>RIKER [OC]: Aye, sir.
>[Bridge]
>RIKER: Success, Captain?
>PICARD: Number One, will you note in our report that if the government of Angosia survives the night, we will offer them Federation assistance in their efforts to reprogram their veterans.
>RIKER: And if the government doesn't survive?
>PICARD: I have a feeling they will choose to. Mister Crusher, set coordinates for Starbase Lya Three.
>WESLEY: Coordinates set, Captain.
>PICARD: Engage.
Ok, well I "have a feeling" that in a room full of men all pointing weapons at each other, it's extremely possible that somebody--probably a terrified Angosian bureaucrat--panics and pulls the trigger, leading to an all-out barrage where Prime Minister Nayrok and the rest of the government officials all get slaughtered.
What does Picard report back to Starfleet Command? "Oops"? It's one thing to adhere to the Prime Directive and not interfere, but this wasn't some pre-warp society--the Enterprise was there precisely because the planet had petitioned for Federation membership!
And then somebody posts the "Please let me die" meme, we all have a nice laugh about it, and then a couple days later, somebody else posts another instance of how they were "forced" to crash into a stationary object or just magically skidded off the road.
Learn how to drive, for fuck's sake.
Somebody here must know how to program a Raspberry Pi to make the proximity sensor light/chime thing work for real.
Forget MMA. Anbo-jyutsu is the ultimate evolution of the martial arts.
Every time Malcolm whips out his phaser, he'd do what I've come to affectionately call "phaser ballet", replete with tip-toes, pirouettes, flamboyant foot drags, awkwardly locked joints, and my personal favorite, the thing where he'd point his phaser behind himself like he was pulling an invisible wagon.
Clearly these were advanced combat tactics that maximized phaser stability, recoil management, and overall accuracy. So why didn't we see this phaser shooting style employed by later security chiefs?
