Skeew backer board got soaked in the rain and turned kind of green - am I cooked?

Does anyone have experience with these supposedly waterproof backer boards? I shouldn’t have left my WIP outside, but this piece will ultimately live outside. I’ve left it in direct sun today to see if the green patch clears up.

Worst financial decision

I was pleasantly surprised that Mallorie said she put her insurance settlement in an investment account that she can’t easily reach. It’s so rare to see sound financial decision making on this show!!

But I want to be messy. What is the WORST financial decision you’ve seen on the series?

I think I remember that Gino was drawing from his retirement accounts to fund Jasmine’s surgery…

Live translation app + privilege/privacy issues?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a live translation/captioning app that either works locally on your computer or is built into the Zoom/Teams universe?

Ideally, the data would only be stored on your firm server — or even better, not stored at all.

We often have pro bono clients who only speak Spanish and it would be great to be able to bring in associates who don’t speak Spanish to join meetings and be able to follow along with the conversation.

The Google Translate app has a feature that is perfect for this need - it’ll run a live transcription of the conversation and show you the English translated text in real time. It’s like subtitles for real life, and it works well for this use case.

But it’s obviously not secure. I’m hoping there’s a (paid?) option out there that is built with privacy and privilege issues in mind…?

The incessant spam from Gold’s Gym DC is a sight to behold

I was a member for a year at one of their DC locations in 2019. I’ve tried and tried to unsubscribe, and now everything just goes to spam, so it doesn’t actually bother me. I haven’t blocked the domain yet, mostly because I’m morbidly fascinated. How is this an effective marketing strategy???

Curry leaf surplus

I’ve got a seven-foot tall curry tree (कड़ी पत्ता) and it’s growing like crazy. I’m in the US, so these trees are quite rare (especially in this size) and I physically can’t use all of the leaves in our home cooking. I really don’t want to freeze and store them year after year.

What are some creative ways I could make use of all the extra crop?

- Should I try to make an infused liqueur?
- Sugar syrup?
- Dry and pulse into a powder?
- Would local Indian and Thai restaurants be interested?
- Should I sell fresh leaves locally or is the effort not worth the profit?

We’re entering month 4 of the Iran war. How is the global economy still functioning?

First, I truly don’t understand how our feckless media continues to credulously believe that we’re close to a deal with Iran. As of this morning, they seem to have hardened in their position and are threatening to completely block Hormuz.

But more fundamentally, can someone smarter than me explain why the US stock market continues to rise, and why the global economy hasn’t dropped off a cliff? Aren’t goods and oil being physically blocked from moving?

Perhaps we’re more resilient than anyone expected, but it seems insane to me that things are still humming along when so much critical material is literally not entering the global marketplace.

Thomas’ voice

Does anyone else feel like Thomas has adopted Brazilian vocal patterns (technically “prosody”) in the way he speaks English?

Brazilians have a really unique melody in the way they speak Portuguese — the way they draw out certain words and usually end sentences on a mid-pitch instead of a downward pitch like most English speakers (or upward if you’re a Valley Girl).

It kind of sounds like Thomas is speaking English with the same prosody as Brazilian Portuguese - probably something he’s adopted from speaking with Paula and her friends.

This isn’t meant to criticize or mock him… I think it’s super fascinating!!!

DC 311 app is trash

Whenever I try to report an issue using the DC 311 app, there’s a greater than 50% chance that it bugs out and fails. Today I had to uninstall and reinstall the app because I couldn’t select a category. God forbid I ever need to choose a location different than my current location, because that feature usually doesn’t work. And most of the time when I get to the Submit page, it crashes. Is this a covert effort to get us to stop reporting issues to the city? Does anyone have any solutions?

I’ve been drafted to help our marketing team brainstorm firm swag ideas for the summer associates and future firm/recruiting events. What are y’all’s favorite (actually nice and useful) items you’ve gotten with firm branding? Aside from Tide pens…
