I had a tin of luncheon meat in the fridge and some vegetables to use up, so I made a stir fry for lunch :)
I saw someone else post their spice drawer and it made me curious.
What’s your most used spice? Do you have a big variety or do you stick to a few well loved staples? What spices/herbs am I missing that you’d recommend?
(The jars have cumin seeds, MSG and garlic powder in them.)
Picked these up from Tesco this afternoon. I’ve never seen them before so I’m assuming they’re new?
ETA:
The matcha ones are disappointing :( There’s almost no matcha flavour at all. If you really concentrate you can taste a slight hint but it is VERY slight.
The cherry blossom ones are 10/10 though. They’re sweet and flora and a bit cherry bakewell-ish. I wish I’d skipped the matcha and bought two of these instead.
At least I think they’re new. I’ve never seen them in the UK before.
I wanted a really simple lentil soup for lunch so I made this :) I sauteed frozen soffrito mix in butter & oil, added a little bit of garlic ginger paste, lots of black pepper, red lentils, a few bay leaves from the garden and some fresh chicken stock. It simmered for around 30 mins before I stuffed my face with a big bowlful.
with cucumber, red onion, carrot, red & yellow pepper, sugar snap peas, radishes and tomatoes in a lemony herby dressing.
I’m having vanilla kefir yogurt with prunes, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, flaked almonds and chia seeds.
but that’s not going to stop me from eating the entire pack in one sitting.
A huge bowl of lettuce, cucumber, radishes, smoked beetroot, carrot, tomatoes & red onion. The dressing was made with sour cream, mayo, lemon juice, hot sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, dried parsley & mint & dill & chives, and lots of black pepper.
Buttered tiger roll, extra mature cheddar, chipotle coleslaw and red onion. It’s not my usual fave but I had a craving for it.
Kale, cucumber, red onion, mozzarella, mixed seeds & balsamic glaze.
I poached the pork belly for an hour in vegetable stock, soy sauce, sesame oil, fish sauce, sriracha, gochujang paste, shaoxing wine, garlic paste, ginger paste, Chinese 5 spice, Lao Gan Ma crispy chilli oil & honey, then took it out and let it go cold before cutting into pieces and air frying for about 15 mins.
I reduced the cooking liquid and thickened it with a cornstarch slurry to use as the stir fry sauce.
…using a bag of brownie mix because I’m lazy. Although I did swap the water for extra melted butter and I used two eggs instead of one. I also added sour cream, instant coffee, my homemade vanilla extract & crushed cantucci biscuits into the batter, and topped them with flaked almonds and coarse sea salt.
Strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, homemade vanilla extract & black pepper.
