Sometimes it's hard to keep pushing

I love my job, I have fun with what I do and I like that I get to learn so much. But it feels like my lead just doesn't take me seriously. I don't even really know what it is, but no matter what he just doesn't. I spent a while just asking to be trained, and eventually I said fuck it. Lately I'm just trying to keep my head down and focus on what's in front of me. If I get promoted then cool, if I learn something new then cool. I'm not necessarily bad at my job. I do better with the panels than the switchgears, but in general I'm at least average.

I had mentioned an assignment I had, it was a big panel, and he asked "You did that?" As if I shouldn't have/shouldn't have been able to. Even though he helped me with it, and he was there the whole week I was working on it. That was the first time in so long that I felt like I was actually doing well on something, and like I was learning again. Especially because my current assignments are pretty easy and repetitive, so I'm not really challenged anymore.

It honestly just feels like a reminder that he doesn't like me, or doesn't see anything in me. And that really sucks sometimes because at the very least I'm trying my best. Everyone else will take a chance with me, let me try, give me positive feedback. But somehow I'm stuck with the only guy who wants nothing to do with my improvement.

Is it possible for me to still make it here?

Long story short, I've been working at this job since January. A lot has changed in both my personal and work life, particularly my commute being 15 minutes with a 7am start time and now a 45 minute drive with a 6am start. I'm also the sole means of transportation between my husband and I, so I don't get home until 5pm. Needless to say, the exhaustion has been a battle for a few weeks now. And the beginning of the year was hectic (car accident, illness, injury, whole family moved away). This has, of course, disrupted my attendance but things did improve for a bit. Then the new schedule started, and I've missed 2 days from exhaustion. I'll likely get a write up for it today, which I'm not going to argue against or anything.

I want to do well here, I really do. I think my new 3 days off, 4 days on schedule will help and it starts next week. It feels like my reputation here isn't going to recover from this. I work hard here, and I take pride in the quality of my work. It's just been a really chaotic year, and I started this job right in the middle of that.

This new schedule might just kill me

When I first got this job I lived 15 minutes away, and it was 7-3:30. Then I moved 35-an hour away, and it was alright. Getting up at 5am wasn't so bad, and I still had enough time in the evening to actually take care of myself and sleep. But now we're moving to a 4×10 schedule, 6-4:30. Currently, this and next week, will be 6-2:30. You'd think that would be a good thing? Fuck no. I still have to pick my partner up from work, so I still don't get home until 5. But now I have to get up at 4am so I get maybe 2hrs when I get home. And when this new schedule starts I won't be home until 6, so I'll have even less time. I had to leave early a few days ago because I could barely keep my eyes open. I'm starting to wonder if this shits even worth it fr

A letter to my hard headed ass husband

First, I would like to start off by saying I love you. I really, really, do. And this is gonna sound way to fucking familiar, but that's exactly why this is frustrating.

Last weekends date was a disaster, but honestly you were the worst part of that day. I did everything I could to make it a good day and you just hated it, and you made sure I knew that you hated it. That part hurt, but now it's just stupid and frustrating to think about.

Namely because you actually need to take care of yourself, and part of that day was me just trying to make sure you're taken care of. You need shoes and clothes, and I know you bought them and it didn't go how you hoped, but I don't regret pushing for it. Hell, I bought your shoes you just won't take the damn money. You need clothes that actually fit you, and you deserve new shirts without holes or random stains baked into them. You need shoes that aren't just crocs or vans that hurt your feet. I wanted you to feel nice and confident, and like I was listening. We went to the place you've been dying to go to for 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 and I'm sorry it wasn't what you thought it was, but that wasn't my fault.

And, in case you forgot, you're the one that still wanted to go shopping. I had already said it wasn't in the plans anymore. You knew why we were going to the store, you even picked the store yourself.

Honestly, sometimes you act like an outright child. Especially when it's a situation where you need something and refuse to get it/it doesn't go your way, and when I need a second to just chill. I don't have the stamina that you do. It's really starting to come off as ungrateful.

So yeah, I'm gonna nag you about going to the doctor and taking care of your damn health. I'm gonna make you get new clothes, and keep up with your hair. Because I love you, and obviously you won't manage this shit on your own. Instead you'll sit there for months, or years at this point, complaining and stating how much you need shit or don't have it. Either you fix it, or I do.

And for the love of everything we've done to get here, please try to show some appreciation when I try. Because I really did and your behavior during and afterwards was hurtful.

How much of a benefit is my current job?

I am currently a production technician, I wire switch gears. I've only been at this job for 7 months now. When they hired me, they said I would be trained and my training would depend on how well I could pick things up. They also offer tuition reimbursement, and said that I could likely work as an engineer for them after I graduate. I start school in January to get my associates in engineering technology. It's a pathways program, so I'll then transfer to a larger university for my bachelor's degree.

I'm having a hard time really "accepting" my job I guess. I went to trade school and loved working in electrical. I love what I do at my job, things like this have been a passion since I was a child. The tuition reimbursement is a huge benefit, and having a job lined up post graduation is a blessing.

But I don't feel like my training is being taken seriously, especially not by my lead. In the beginning he would just pass me off to other teams, so I wasn't really learning from him. I still don't really learn from him, and he's never really made an effort to ensure I was being trained. I've learned practically everything from my teammates and have been working independently since month 3, there are rarely any problems with my work, and I seem to now be faster than my teammates. Still, I'm not progressing to more difficult assignments. I'm not learning anything new, and with that I'm not advancing to level 2 or receiving a pay bump. I have asked for new assignments, I've asked to shadow my teammates, to work on other teams so that I may tighten up my mechanical skills, and lastly to switch teams.

My supervisor seems to either be oblivious or simply doesn't care. When I brought up my lack of training in a conversation between my supervisor and HR, it seemed like my lead started to take an interest in my training but that only lasted a few weeks.

I was hoping to reach level 2, and eventually join the testing team, but I just don't have the mobility right now. The only reason I want to leave this job is because I don't want to be on his team anymore. I want to work with someone that will actually train me, or set me up to be trained. I don't want to graduate and still be a level 1. I wanted this job because it would give me the hands on experience to go with what I'm learning. Even if I graduate and have the academic understanding of these things, I still have to advance through every level if I want to be on the testing team. That will take years, and I'll be completely done with school by then. That's what it sounds like at least.

I'm considering investing in my programming skills so that maybe when I graduate I can move onto something in that field. I could get another job now but I know my household needs the stability, especially right now. My dad says this is just part of the process and that I should be patient. My job already takes a lot of time and energy, and being only 21, I don't want to spend the next 2-6 years doing this if I'm just going to be ignored.

I'm feeling a little behind

I'm 21, and going back to school in January at 22. I was in school but got sick and had to drop out at 19, I didn't even finish my first semester. I realize it was for the best that I dropped out. I went to trade school and just moved in with my fiance, we're doing well. I'm finally in a position where I can go back to school. But, lately, every time I think about school I get stuck on where I could be by now. I would've already finished my associates, I could be an intern or assistant by now. Instead I'll finish my associates around 24, and hopefully my bachelor's before 27. I feel like I was such a promising kid, and now I'm just not.

Logically, I know I'm in a far better position now than I was at 19. I work full time in a field that looks great on my future resume. I have the means to go do whatever I want, everything 19yo me dreamed of in college is what I'm doing now. My ADHD was diagnosed, and now studying doesn't have to be an agonizing uphill battle only to end in absolute failure come test day. I actually have a chance of getting into my dream school because I have opportunities now that I didn't before. In 2 years, I'm far better off than I was.

But I feel behind. There are things I can't do until I finish school, and things I wish I could've started sooner. I want to do incredible things with my career but the older I get, the more I feel like I'm running out of time. And that's an insane thought coming from a 21 year old.

I passed my road test

I've been stressed about my road test for months now. Fortunately we just drove around the parking lot, but then came the parking. I only practiced parallel parking once, and while I did *alright* for my last try, I didn't do it on my own that day. But I did it on the second try today, and I did it kinda well. WHOOOOOOOO

Gift ideas for someone who is sick

My grandpa's birthday is next month. I don't really know what to get him for his birthday. I asked my grandma and she said he's just focused on taking care of himself, and he's said that he doesn't really do much some days bc of the pain. I have an idea of his music taste (particularly Michael Jackson and Bobby Brown), he also likes watching nature videos and cats. So far I'm thinking a record player with multiple records to go with it.

I love my papa

My papa is my step-granddad. I've never met him in person since he's lived in Canada my whole life, but he's still the only one I've known. Unfortunately I stopped talking to him for years once I hit around 10 or so, and it felt weird wanting to initiate.

I wish I would've reached out sooner. He's gotten a lot older and he's sick. I talk to him now and damn am I gonna miss him one day. That with the mothers day posts from family, featuring my great aunts who have already passed away. The people in our lives get older too, so cherish them while you have them.

I want guy friends

The title is pretty much it. I miss having friends who I could see often since all of mine are halfway across the country. I get along well with some of my coworkers, but definitely closer to my fellow ladies. The guys just seem like a lot of fun.

Being a young adult suckkkksss

We're 21 and 22, going through the usual motions of young adulthood. We got jobs, working on licenses and cars, talking about all the big future plans. So duh we're about to move out and rent our own place. Except for the fact that we don't have a credit history or rental history, and therefore can't be trusted with a home of our own without a cosigner. Fine, great, makes sense. Too bad we might not be able to get this place because of it 🫩

Orange Juice by Noah Kahan

Dumb title, I didn't know what else to put.

I'm talking to my cousin right now. I don't think we've spoken in like 6yrs, I don't even think we've seen each other in at least 10. I don't really know what happened to him. I just know that he was sick, and that's all I ever knew. I always feel weird asking about people because it's hard for me to know the appropriate questions. It feels invasive, or like I might make them upset. So I haven't asked about my cousin much, but I've been thinking about him a lot lately. Sure enough, we're talking today. It reminds me of "Orange Juice," by Noah Kahan.

I don't want to be "too much," because I still don't know how he is or anything. So much has happened in all this time and I want to tell him everything but it just doesn't feel appropriate. I want to ask if he knows about our grandfather, or my brother, or all of the other shit that's happened since he's been gone. I want to ask what life is like for him, invite him to my wedding, or ask if he wants to go back to school one day. I don't know what he likes, or what he's like. He's not that little kid that I used to call my twin anymore.

How do I (f21) know we're (m22) ready for marriage?

I (21F) have been with my fiance (22M) for almost 4 years now. We've been with each other through it all and have done a great job of getting ourselves together so far.

We've wanted to get married for quite a while now and I absolutely want to marry him. But a few months ago, I told him I wanted to hold off or slow down. We had just started getting ourselves together as actual adults. We were finally working and gearing up to move out on our own. I was scared at the time because I've never had to be responsible for myself in such a way. With living so far away from family, that meant it would just be the two of us. I was worried that he wasn't ready to handle things if shit went sideways, and I still don't know if I can. Our timeline and the stress of this move has been a lot. My family will be leaving soon, so we have to get a place by then. Neither of us have a license, and at the time my dad's car note felt impossible. It wasn't until I actually looked at our joint income that I understood how well we were actually doing.

At the time it wasn't that I wanted to break up, but the alternative to progressing would be to move away with my family.

I went back and forth with myself a lot these past few months. I think I've messed up some of the trust in our relationship too. I realized that I may have some control issues. I get anxious when I don't know what's happening, and I can only plan and manage everything to feel like it'll be alright. We compliment each other because I'm not great at execution, and he's not great at planning. In this case, I just felt alone because of the lack of planning on his side.

Things are finally starting to settle down, and yesterday he said he was still excited to get married on our chosen date. I still feel apprehensive about the move, but I recognize that it wasn't really about *him* I was just scared. I just don't have anything to prove either of us are ready for this, so I don't know how ready I am for us to get married.

I feel safe with him, and I know he'll do whatever needs to be done. He's been nothing short of amazing since the day we met, and I couldn't have dreamed of anyone better. But I know this is just the first of many questions and lessons for us when it comes to an adult relationship.

How do I figure this out? I don't feel like I can talk to my family about it, and it feels like I'm just overthinking again.
