Canberra vs QLD

Hi all

I was just wondering about the experience of working in Canberra vs QLD. I’m trying to decide between the two, and I ideally would like to go metro

I know Queensland probably pays better. But I was curious about career progression, training programs etc.
Any insight is appreciated

BPT and uni

Hi all

This is probably a stupid question but I’ve heard various things. Does medical knowledge from uni/consolidation of that material play a role in BPT exam prep or readiness?

Does it carry forward in any way? Does it help you be a better PGY1?

Feeling like crap, need someone to DM and talk

I won’t go into details here… but long story short I have had a setback and would like to chat to someone privately…
I’m just feeling absolutely awful and questioning everything

I would greatly appreciate it…

My Thai con leaves are curling !

Hi all,

I got this plant as a gift two weeks ago and all has been well so far.

Three days ago I noticed very mild curling (some downwards, some upwards and some inwards) and wrinkling…

I’m so scared I overwatered, but the soil is moist. I also added a humidifier because i thought that could be the cause… I have a grow light and a west window. There’s no smell or colour changes .
Since I got her two weeks ago I watered her twice. I checked the bottom of the nursery pot and the soil is not dry so I don’t think she’s thirsty.

Idk what to do…I am thinking of repotting her but I don’t wanna stress it out either? She’s looking a bit sad compared to when I got her… it has been getting a bit colder here (but not freezing temps)
Please help…

Should I move to Canberra?

I have heard good things - I’m a coffee lover and foodie, but I enjoy elements of the city life and would like a pub night every so often.

However, I know a car is needed. I’m curious as to how public transport is (I ideally would like to live in the same area as Canberra hospital and ANU). I’m in nsw at the moment and do drive (but have driving anxiety especially in a new state lol)

I guess I don’t know if I’ll be happy there. Some things are appealing, others are not so. I know it gets very cold too.

Please convince me to move or to not move. I’m single, no pets. Open to one day starting a family if life hands me that card.

Curling leaf?

Please help.. I don’t know why this leaf looks a bit wonky… she’s well watered and I think she gets enough light. I only noticed the curl a few days ago

Is my soil airy enough or should I repot

Hi all

I recently got this as a gift and the mix is probably straight from the nursery . She’s growing well (I think the second pic is the very start of a new leaf?)

Any thoughts ? Should I repot? I’m gonna get her a support pole at some point too

New leaf?!

I got gifted this plant a few days ago and I absolutely love her. I think she’s starting to grow a new leaf? She recently finished unfurling one!

AITAH for calling out a friend after a discussion became weirdly intense?

I’ll try to keep this short

I had a disagreement with a friend about a topic in a field we both study/work in. It started off as a normal discussion but gradually turned into a really long argument that honestly became exhausting.
The main issue for me wasn’t even the topic itself. It was the way the conversation started feeling. I felt like he became increasingly combative and condescending, kept trying to corner me into binary answers, and kept insisting I was “changing my argument” when I was trying to explain nuance.

Eventually I told him the conversation felt antagonistic and that I didn’t appreciate being spoken to like I didn’t understand what I was saying. He said he was just being passionate and analytical and that I was reading too much into it.
Things escalated after that. He started reacting very personally to my criticism and saying things like “I’m obviously just a terrible person then,” “I should never have tried,” and “I can’t believe I trusted you.” Meanwhile I felt like I was trying to discuss his behaviour in the conversation itself, not attack his entire character.

At one point I told him he was taking my comments far more personally than I intended and projecting bigger issues onto what was originally just me objecting to how he was speaking to me.
Now I’m wondering whether I crossed a line by making it “psychological” instead of just dropping the argument earlier. Part of me thinks I should’ve disengaged sooner, but part of me also feels like I had a right to call out the condescending tone and the way the discussion escalated.
AITA?

TL;DR: A disagreement with a friend escalated into a long, emotionally charged argument where I felt he became more focused on “winning” and defending himself than discussing the actual topic. When I criticized the way he was speaking to me, he reacted as though I was attacking his entire character. I’m wondering if I overread the situation or if his reaction genuinely suggests insecurity/ego involvement.

As above. Im sure a good reference would be great, but as a student you rotate through a lot and I wonder how this affects applications if at all. I know I’ll need em for training programs, but how would I maximise a JMO application?

Thanks

I’m applying for pgy1 2027 and I’ll likely be in cat 3 or cat 4 in ACT being interstate and non-domestic. I’m stressing out with regards to my chances of securing something. Any insight is appreciated. WA is also on my list…

I’m in a bit of a doozy. I am starting PGY1 next year and applications are opening up soon (eek!)

I’m In NSW but am hoping to leave and do internship interstate (likely Perth or Canberra). Thoughts on NSW heath in general?

I also have two grad certs (population health and health professionals edu). Would this be useful for training programs? I’m hoping for BPT, though some emergency med and crit care has piqued my interest. I’m still undecided.

Any other tips on PGY1 applications would massively help. Thanks
