Going To Independence Tonight? Do NOT Take River Rd

A semi truck did the thing that the dozen or so signs told them not to do, he is currently going reverse down River Rd backing away from the train bridge, with stopped police escort (they are stopping traffic a quarter mile back, letting the truck back up, going around, repeat...I was lucky enough to have just missed it on the way out and saw the above on the way back to Salem).

If you are headed to Independence, take Skyline all the way to that steep hill, or 22 to Rickreall(?) ish, then south to Independence.

80s/90s DJ Set Tonight @ Mac Club

Heyo, this is a free event, will be taking some requests but it's mostly gonna be 80s pop and 90s rap. The venue has been remodeled and their sound system is pretty insane. Hope to see some folks there!

Nightmare 2 Playing In Theaters Tomorrow

I'm in Oregon but this appears to be a Regal thing so perhaps it's showing elsewhere.

Thought it was cool to see a horror film for the Pride theme, even though it's not *explicitly* LGBTQ to casual fans, still dope to see it get some recognition.

Side note, I think evil Freddy always worked better than goofy Freddy, but when he jumped into the real world at the pool party it kinda threw that off.

You Have $10 Per Person Budget, No Drinks, Where Are You Eating?

Lots of food suggestions in this sub are great, but spendy.

Wondering about hidden or undervalued eats.

Los Toreros has the upscale street tacos for a couple bucks. The dueling pizzas on Court St have $6 slices. What else is there?

No fast food, please. Just local spots.

Any Interest In Seeing DJ Swamp In Salem?

Possibly in a position to book DJ Swamp, known for insane turntablism, lighting his decks on fire, insanely fast mixing and other DJ shenanigans.

Touching base with the sub to measure interest, wondering if a Grand type booking would work or if I should lean into a nightclub.

Dude is huge in the hip hop and DJ circles but I'm wondering if others are aware of him. Super cool dude as well.

Barefoot Person In Squirrel Colored Cape Emerges From Video Footage of Salem Accident

This was sent to me by someone who saw footage of an accident in "Salem," but could be MA not OR.

I censored their face but want to let squirrel person know that they're an absolute legend and potentially becoming a meme. I hope they didn't lose anyone or anything in this accident, and that they are just patrolling the scene looking for acorns.

Godspeed, Accident Scene Squirrel Person.

Oregon State Fair Concert Tickets (Weird Al) On Sale Today

Note: there are usually general admission seats available for fair ticketholders, but they often fill up fast. The $60 green area tickets are pretty close. The chart is not to scale.

Straw Poll: Has Getting A Call/Txt From/For A Candidate Ever Made You MORE Likely To Vote For Them?

See title, has this ever been a convincing approach? I feel that it's a bit boundary pushing, especially since ads and mailers can summarize all the candidate's points.

On the flipside, I voted Jane Doe and now I'm still getting calls and texts from Doe, and I kinda regret voting for her. Not a fan of John Smith, not gonna vote for him, but Jane's office has left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I am "not affiliated with any party" on my ballot, so I don't know what you Reps and Dems are seeing, if it's much more or if they leave you alone because they know how you're gonna vote.

Where To Donate Old Art Supplies? Specially Glass.

I have several dozen pounds of scrap glass (stained glass) that is sharp, heavy and not something I feel comfortable throwing in a box and labeling "free."

It's not trash, the pieces are just too small for my projects, but this is a huge batch for anyone who does mosaic or similar work with smaller bits of glass.

Looking for an art coop or a place to leave it where it will go to good use. Also down to leave in Salem Arts Building (Mykies, Sewell, Frozation) lobby.

For purposes of discussion and to avoid culture war rhetoric, assume it's polio and an established 100% effective vaccine. Also assume that herd immunity in this scenario is effective.

Is the underlying assumption that people should just get the red button because it's 100% effective? Or is society responsible for choosing the blue button in order to make the herd immunity happen, i.e. fulfill the wishes of the anti-red-button community?

Again, polio not covid. Looking for logical, not political, angles.

The flyer is AI. This is impact font and would take five minutes in Photoshop.

There is no way in hell's pit that they're having issues with an SSL certificate or a stylesheet.

I'm not trying to be a hater. I think it's dope that there's another Gathering-ish lineup. But folks need to be really, really skeptical at this point.
