Obviously I've heard of spokespeople for individual companies but never an industry, like wool or vaginal mesh. Is that common in real life?

I don't know if this belongs in this sub, but I also don't know where else to post it. Why are abbreviations of country names considered derogatory? Is it just because of the tone/the people who use them?
