Olympic National Park

Not my best (phoned it in on the clouds lol) but in my defense I had just hiked ~9.8 miles with a 35 lb pack on my back. First time using the tiny paper! So cute and fun

Mounting lights on underside of top of cabinet?

Hey all! Pic included for context. I am starting to order supplies to convert my Fabrikor into a greenhouse.
I am curious if anyone has mounted lights (I’m doing Barrina T5s) on the underside of the top of their cabinet? It seems uncommon, as most of the mounts I have come across are magnetic (for the frame/do not come with a second magnet) or affix to drilled acrylic/glass shelving.
Does anyone have mounts that work on glass, or has had success with command strips or anything?
Thank you!!

Fabrikor Wide for Orchids -- shopping list/dummy check, species, temp & humidity?!

Hi all! Long post (which I will be crossposting to r/Orchids), apologies in advance.

I have been planning a conversion of my Fabrikor into a mini greenhouse for my orchid collection. I have five orchids: a bulbophyllum and a maxillaria which have been THRIVING in the shower; and a phalaenopsis, a zygopetalum and an oncidium which have also been doing decently well on the windowsill (zygo and onci seem a little shriveled even with regular watering, so hoping increased humidity and airflow will help).

The weather will be cooling down soon, which is why I am moving forward with the build now, as they won't have the same airflow they have enjoyed over the last few months (particularly the ones in the shower).

Anyone have experience with orchids in their Fabrikor Wide? I think the bathroom humidity will be decently replicable (pics of bathroom vs current Fabrikor Wide hygrometers in post).

Here's my shopping/setup list:

Am I forgetting anything?! Any advice from Fabrikor converters and/or orchid hobbyists?? Thank you for your time! I will update when my build is complete! I am so inspired by your all's gorgeous builds.

My first rebloom!

Been in the game a little over a year. Last summer my friend gave me two very sad phals that were gifted to them when their mother died. One sadly didn’t make it, but the other just gifted me with my first successful rebloom! It feels even more special that it’s one of the orchids my friend gave me — and also, it bloomed while MY mom was visiting me, so I feel like it’s a message from my friend’s mom. What a lovely feeling, I have had success with roots and leaves on my other plants but no blooms yet. So excited!!

ETA: My other plants are a zygo, an oncidium, a bulbophyllum, and a maxillaria. Ironically I have killed two phals in my life but no other orchids, so kinda funny that the first one to rebloom is a phal.

Do yall get hummingbirds in your yards?

Hi everyone! Recently moved to High Point from Vashon (with my boyfriend who lived in Queen Anne). His aunts gave us a hummingbird feeder and some bird feeders. We have gotten a scrub jay, some juncos and house sparrows but haven’t seen any hummingbirds yet so we moved the feeder into a tree and hung a fuchsia basket next to us.

Anyone here attract hummingbirds to their yards? Btw loving the neighborhood 💛🩵🩷💚

Maxillaria <3s da shower

I moved recently, and during the move I (what I thought was!) temporarily put my Maxillaria tenuifolia and my Bulbophyllum lobbii in this little north-facing window shelf in the shower. Holy SMOKES are they happy, but particularly the Maxi!!!
All those little root growths have basically exploded over the last week and a half. The “spike” (or new leaf?? Can’t tell what it is lol) was already there but has started developing really fast.
Initially I kept with my once a week long soak watering schedule, but I started just running them under the shower every few days while I wait for the water to heat up, and that seems to be working just fine (and using less water).
The Bulbo looks pretty happy too, but it’s a little harder to tell because it’s mounted in a hollowed out log with sphag so I can’t see the roots as well.
TL;DR put your Maxis in the shower maybe lol

Am I ready for barrel lessons?

Hi friends! Coming here to ask y’all’s advice on how to judge if I’m ready to start barrel racing lessons.

Experience/context: I've been taking lessons 1-2x a week for a little over 2.5 years (I am 31 y/o). I think I have a good seat and have developed good horse sense. I started on English tack as is the policy at my barn, switched to Western about a year ago. Also, over the winter I was paid to take my lessons on + do groundwork with one of the boarder’s horses while she was gone for the winter — it went really well, she has had such positive things to say about his progress since she returned and started riding him regularly again. So TLDR, I have grown a lot as a horsewoman and am proud of my progress!

My instructor is 70 and mostly teaches from the ground. We do a lot of figure eights and dressage patterns just to work on transitioning between gaits, framing, lead changes, etc.

What I REALLY want is get into Cowboy Mounted Shooting when I get my own horse (hopefully in the next 2-3 years, just not there financially yet). I am an experienced markswoman/good shot and I feel confident about putting the pieces together eventually, but I understand that the foundation of CMS is barrel racing, which my instructor can’t really instruct me on. It wasn’t his discipline when he *was* a regular rider (he did XC and eventing mostly) and it’s not a WESTERN western barn, ya know?

Very long, I’m sorry -- but to any barrel racers or mounted shooters reading, what next? Am I ready for barrel racing lessons? Is that even an option if I don’t have my own horse yet?

Thank you for any and all advice/insights!

Update: Squeaking squealing wheel :’)

posted a couple days ago about my truck making a squealing/speaking noise, corresponding to rotation of wheels, since my (wonderful, sweet, but ditzy) brother hit a pothole HARD while borrowing.

here’s a video of the sound. My backyard mechanic BF and I spent about an hour with the rear end jacked up, trying to pinpoint the exact issue. there’s definitely something scraping in the wheel, we think it might be a bent backing plant but can’t say for sure. it’s going to a Japanese import shop Monday morning for a diagnostic :(

anyone had a similar issue and can share their experience repair cost/labor times?! I understand that replacing the backing plate requires disassembling the entire axle bearing ughhhh.

Diagnostic advice

Hi friends !

FYI, this post is 90% seeking diagnostic advice/10% ranting…

So my boyfriend and I have recently completed a LOT of work on Ezzie, my truck. Including CV axles, steering rack, suspension (front and rear), timing belt, front brakes and more, all over the span of about six months.

She was sounding and feeling great. Then my brother came to visit for 8 days and I let him drive the truck while he was here. I drove my 2016 Scion iM, which I have been gearing up to sell (lent him Ezzie because the Scion needs brakes done, and I just felt better driving it myself).

Since he left, Ezzie has been making a horrible squeaking/squealing/chirping noise, in rhythm with the revolution of the wheels. Appears to be coming from rear drivers side.

She wasn’t making the noise before I lent my brother the truck, and it could definitely be just an old wheel bearing and a total coincidence. However, he also mentioned that he accidentally went over a large pothole at full speed (he mentioned it to be like “The suspension felt great!”🤦‍♀️), so part of me is very paranoid that he cause damaged to my drive shaft u joint…

Anyone experienced/diagnosed a similar noise? For what it’s worth, it appears to be mostly during acceleration.

Grateful for any experience or advice! Thanks y’all for tuning in.
