Can I ramset nails into my basement floor safely?

I'm looking to build a few dividing walls in my basement to close off my workshop area. House is from 1722, but the basement floor is DEFINITELY nowhere near that old. Has clearly been poured in a few sections. See photos.

Can I just ramset nails into this concrete for the sole plates for walls? Or should I just PL Premium/other glue them down?

My first kit in a decade - Solo spalted maple LP. Don't judge my work area please.

I built a noname Strat kit years ago, but have always wanted a spalted maple LP style. Shit, I haven't even PLAYED an electric in years, I've just been kicking it with my Taylor acoustic.

This is a mahog body, mahog neck, and spalted maple top. I thought the headstock would come spalted veneer as well, but no luck. I'm looking for a piece, but I might go with mahogany veneer for that if I can't find spalted anywhere. I have a multipack of veneers from 20 years ago SOMEWHERE, so I'll see what's in there and looks best.

Didn't document the test fitting or neck glue-up, but it all went without note. I did a full workup on the neck/frets - first time ever. I followed a video I found, hopefully I didn't mess it up too bad.

Anyways. I'm at the point where I've got everything sanded. Plan is to stain the back DARK but not black. Neck and top are just getting tung oil. Back will be oiled as well. As you can see, I failed to thoroughly clean up all the glue from the neck joint, so I'll be trying to very carefully scrape some of that away so it absorbs the stain/oil. Time will tell.

Finishing with carnauba wax buffed to as much of a shine as possible. I don't have the setup to do any spraying, plus I really like the "waxed/oiled wood" look.

Going with Wilkinson tuners and electronics, all in black. Using stock black bridge.

Can I hang my Grizl CF SL 6 AXS from the wheel?

I know you're not supposed to hang a carbon bike by the frame, but what about by the wheel? Would really help storage-wise. Just don't want to mess anything up on it. :)

Saddle "sunken" on Goya G-310. How easy of a fix?

Got this 1980s Goya G-310 from my FIL's attic. Hasn't been out of the case in about 30 years.

It appears that the saddle has collapsed somehow. How difficult would this be to replace on my own?

My experience:

I built a (shitty) electric guitar in high school, and have built a couple of electric kits over the years. I've done some other basic woodworking & carpentry including building cabinets, converting a van, framing walls, building a deck, etc.

I have a TON of hand and power tools. I'm not daunted by this, just not sure if it's something I should tackle myself or just pay someone to do.

I have not touched the guitar yet. My guess is that the bridge pins are pulling out due to the lack of angle on the strings since the saddle is gone.

Plymouth MA - what is this plant growing in my newly planted lawn?

I recently cultivated and replanted my lawn about 4 weeks ago. Never had a lawn before.

I dug everything up because it was just a bunch of moss for the most part, put down a light layer of soil and then overseeded with some shade and some mix I found at Lowe's.

Grass is coming in well, but I'm having a large patches of these random plants. They seem to be spreading. They don't seem to be getting that big, but it's only been about a week or so since I've noticed them coming in.

I'm curious if I should just let them grow, or recultivate the areas that I find them in and then redo all my steps?

City Roots and this subreddit

Hi everyone. At this point the poll has enough data to make an accurate extrapolation, and it's very clear that the majority of you do not want to limit talk on here about City Roots and Guy Vaknin. As you can see, I am included in this majority.

Poll is here, results screenshotted below. Core contributors are defined by reddit as "Core contributors have visited or contributed to this community consistently in the past month." These numbers are 40 for yes and 16 for no at the time of this writing.

https://preview.redd.it/mej568cadv4h1.png?width=1478&format=png&auto=webp&s=179670a38bb61a16328948f713aca392c88805b9

I ran this poll for a few reasons, and I did it this way because I was only receiving feedback from a small number of folks who all shared the same viewpoint - that discussion of City Roots and Guy Vaknin should not be allowed on here due to his alleged views on the middle east conflicts and the fact that he appeared on a MAGA influencer's social media platforms.

The poll thread (linked above) had some comments that made great points, both to the issue at hand as well as my way of handling it. Thank you to all that contributed to the discussion, thank you for keeping it relatively civil, and thank you for your candid and transparent feedback.

In 2016 I read the book "The Four Hour Workweek", and in it the author suggests a personal media fast, citing that we receive so much information that we cannot act upon, does not affect our lives, and we cannot effect in turn. I tried it. I liked it. I stuck with it for years.

During COVID this fell completely to the wayside, of course, and I spent my days at home with my wife and our cat, panic refreshing Reddit and a dozen other pages, watching news stories about this mystery virus spreading across the world, the death counts, etc. Eventually I had a massive panic attack and, following that, stopped again. No news. No world events. I follow it this to this day as best I can - if I can't affect it, I won't let it affect me. This is my own personal opinion and you may find it irresponsible, and that's your personal opinion. We're both entitled to them, and they don't have to match. That's okay.

I'm telling you all this because I literally do not know more than a few occasional headlines about what's going on in the middle east. I will be the first to say that I do not have a dog in this fight, but I am against the fight as a whole. I am not Israeli. I am not Palestinian. I am not Jewish.

I know that people are killing each other. I do not believe in this, for any reason. I know that there is guerilla warfare, killing of civilians, of children, and I do not condone this in any capacity. But I do not know why, and while I'll happily advocate for change I will not "take sides" in something that I do not know enough about. People shouldn't kill people, for any reason, with very very few exceptions. To me, those exceptions would be "they're trying to rape my child" or "they're directly threatening my life" - certainly not for religion, "god", "destiny", "holy land", or any of that bullshit.

Anyways, back to the poll and how these posts / comments will be handled from here on in.

It's become clear to me that the folks who are continually creating tension and upheaval are coming from the loud minority of members of this subreddit. Posts/comments supporting (from a restaurant and person who enjoys good food standpoint) these restaurants will be allowed here, and silencing talk about this restaurant group is not the correct way to handle this.

From here on in, on this subreddit:

  • Posts or comment about City Roots or Guy Vaknin are allowed in the capacity of:
    • Discussion, recommendation, and reviews of the food and dining experience ("My review of Coletta..")
    • Suggestions to go to this restaurant group (such as a "Looking for suggestions for a french vegan restaurant...")
    • Polite, respectful, and productive discussion of the underlying political issues revolving around this
  • Posts or comments that will not be tolerated:
    • Attacks against City Roots or Guy Vaknin
    • Suggestions to not patronize his restaurants due to his alleged political stances
    • Threats against anyone for any reason, relating to this subject or not
    • Content that has no other purpose than to create discourse and agitate the waters of an already polarizing issue
  • If you post/comment in a way that falls into the "not tolerated" category:
    • Your post/comment will be removed
    • Depending on the severity of the post/comment, or if you're a repeat offender, you'll be banned for anywhere between 7 days to permanently
    • If a moderator takes action on your post comment and you think to yourself "Hey, I know what I'll do - I'll message the mods directly to let them know what I think!" please know that:
      • It won't make a difference
      • I don't care
      • I've made my decision
      • Oh my god, stop bothering me
    • We'll report you to the Reddit admins if we feel that whatever you said goes against Reddit's rules

Obviously the examples I provided are just examples, and real-world posts/comments may have a different but related context. Use your brain.

This is not meant to stifle or limit legitimate conversation and discussion, but to keep things civil and productive.

Ultimately, if you have an issue with City Roots, then show it with your wallet by not patronizing the business. Just like walking into a McDonalds dressed up as a dead cow to try to force someone to not eat meat isn't very likely to work and will just make people dig in their heels more, bringing up your political views here isn't very likely to make a difference and people will just react in turn.

EDIT: I'm going to add in here as a not tolerated thing "continuing to, to a point of annoyance, question and argue against what the majority has voted for." If you don't like the decision, don't participate. But I'm a human being and I will get annoyed enough to ban you if you continue to beat a dead horse. This will not be out of "trying to silence someone's opinion" or whatever other victimization framework you prefer to see it as. It will be out of an "you're annoying the shit out of me and you won't leave me alone".

TLDR; I'm trying my best to be fair and equitable in this situation without siding with one party or another personally. I'm trying my best to be fair to the results of the most democratic way I have of handling this situation given the differing opinions. I recognize that this is a "hot topic" but ultimately neither you or I are going to solve it by bitching at each other on the internet. If you don't like how I handled it, then that seems like a "you" problem and you're more than welcome to continue to participate in here in accordance with the rules, or you can chose not to. There are like 8.3 billion people in the world - I'm not losing sleep over a few not liking me for any of this. It's the internet.

Looking for a highly figured spalted LP-style kit.

Hey all - any suggestions for a strongly figured spalted maple (or any spalted wood) LP style kit?

Not too specific on brand. Planning on finishing with truoil or another natural, more open-grain finish (no glossy sprays or anything). Don't care about the electronics, gonna swap 'em out for something aftermarket.

Ideally the hardware it comes with would be good quality, but I can get aftermarket as well if needed.

Just have always been a fan of the spalted look with a natural finish, and I've finally got some free time to work on a project.

Should we allow City Roots / Guy Vaknin support on this subreddit?

EDIT: Locking this thread. I've posted results here with context: https://www.reddit.com/r/nycvegan/comments/1tus4qf/city_roots_and_this_subreddit/

There's been a LOT of discourse in this subreddit over City Roots restaurants and the owner, Guy Vaknin. I've been trying my best to police it and keep the bickering to a minimum, but MAN yall are fucking opinionated. Someone posts something positive about this dude or his restaurants, and others report it. Someone posts something negative, and others report it.

Personally, I know nothing about the dude other than what I've read on here. I do not know him personally. I do not know, aside from heresay on here, what his beliefs are on.. pretty much anything other than food.

What I've been told/have read is below. THIS ARE JUST NARRATIVES THAT HAVE BEEN PUT TOGETHER BY OTHER PEOPLE. I HAVE NO DIRECT OPINION OF MY OWN. FEEL FREE TO SUBMIT ANY SUPPORTING / CONFLICTING INFORMATION IN THE COMMENTS. THANK YOU TO u/apprehensive_crow682 FOR THEIR CONTINUED PEDANTICISM IN REGARDS TO THIS MATTER.

  1. He is a Zionist (or is anti-zionist? I don't know anything about any of this).
  2. He supports MAGA - this claim is substantiated by several videos of him with a known MAGA influencer, linked below
  3. Supposedly he celebrates when competing vegan restaurants go out of business

I've been directed to sabrina.the.vegan on IG - she has a highlight reel detailing a lot of this - https://www.instagram.com/sabrina.the.vegan/

Additionally, there are two videos of him with a MAGA influencer - https://www.instagram.com/reel/DO4dewfkYCb/ and https://www.instagram.com/p/DSWNZWtETXs/?img_index=17

On the opposite side of this coin, evaluate what we're actually working with. What we have here is unsubstantiated evidence. While it does paint a vivid picture, it does so through a certain lens and point of view. It does not include the full 360 of this issue. IG highlight reels and a couple videos people read however they want. If it's not enough for ME to form an opinion, you may or may not find that it's enough to scrub the dude from the whole sub.

Additionally, banning the topic doesn't make it go away. It just shoves it elsewhere and has the potential to make everybody even angrier. At least with posts up, the dumb claims can get challenged or debunked out in the open, if people are willing to do it with civility.

Also think about the precedent. Banning the mention of this guy over his alleged politics, and what's the rule next time? A local food sub that can't talk about a local restaurateur is just a worse sub.

The real problem here isn't the topic anyway. It's the report spam and the bickering. To be honest, I'm pretty fucking tired of dealing with all this, so I'll let you all decide. Here's what you're voting on:

Should this subreddit automatically disallow posts about Guy Vaknin and his restaurants, based on the evidence here?

A vote for yes means that posts and comments in support of City Roots restaurants and Guy Vankin will be allowed. It also means that I don't want to see a plethora of reports on these posts anymore, and that you will respect the decision of the majority.

A vote for no means that rules / automations will be put in place to automatically remove these posts and comments. Again, it also means I don't want to see a ton of fucking reports on it. Respect the decision.

Whatever you vote will be implemented within a week or two, at least to the limits of my knowledge of how to implement this as well as the time I have to do it.

Please feel free to discuss in comments RESPECTFULLY and without just hurling insults at one another. I know that this is a very hot topic with very strong opinions on each side but debate is one thing, being a cunt is another. I will not ban anyone or anything for what is said in here (unless it goes against Reddit's rules), but I might lock comment threads if you all don't behave at least a little bit like adults.

I'll let the poll run until I feel like we have a good sample size. Once that's over, it's over. I expect anyone and everyone to abide by what's decided here. That means that if you all vote to allow City Roots/Guy Vaknin support, I don't want to get bombarded with reports about posts or comments just because it doesn't fit into YOUR personal scope. The same goes in the other direction.

For the record, my own personal opinion is that people shouldn't kill each other. People shouldn't discriminate based on religion, race, ethnicity, beliefs, gender, etc etc etc. You get it. I don't have a dog in this fight, but I'm against the fight as a whole. I do not know enough about Palestine, Israel, Zionists, etc to make any sort of statement other than that they should all stop being cunts and stop waging war upon each other in any capacity for any reason.

Thank you.

NY Dosas / Dosa Man / Thiru's cart has been hit by a car. Closed until June at the earliest. Please help!

Just saw that Thiru's (@nydosas on IG) cart has been hit by a car. From his post:

>Hi everyone. We had an accident yesterday evening after leaving the park. Thankfully, I am ok. However, the cart is damaged and requires repairs.

We are not sure yet when we will be able to return. Hopefully we can be back by early June. I will keep you updated. Thank you for all your love and support. 🙏

Thanks,
Thiru

If you aren't familiar, Thiru has been making delicious, 100% vegan dosas in WSP for 20+ years. I'm very happy to hear that he is OK, but it seems that his cart is not.

In his post he commented:

>Thank you so much 🙏 If anyone wants to help, they can Venmo me (Nydosas). I will not be setting up a Gofundme

You all are a great little community here, and I'm hoping to get some support going to help Thiru out and get him back on his feet. Or is it on his wheels?

Either way, we kindly ask you to contribute a few bucks if you can - you can find him on Venmo under nydosas. If you're not able to don't fret it - just pop by WSP once he's back up and running!

Scrambler on street?

On the cusp of buying a LAND, but I'm a bit torn. While I'm not a dirtbiker by any stretch of the term, I do enjoy exploring in a staying-on-the-ground way. I have many trails near me, both legit and grey-area (like powerlines, etc).

I'm just curious how the Scrambler does on the street? I wouldn't buy a street and take it on trails, but I'd be down to buy a scrambler and use it primarily on street with some adventuring sometimes.

"Deep" knobs? Threaded part of pots too tall for knobs.

I recently upgraded the pickups on my Chinese jbass clone to EMG J5Xs. Sounds great, super easy install. But on the pots it came with, the threaded part is simply too tall for the knobs I have. I bought new knobs, but same thing - they sit far too high.

https://preview.redd.it/4tjjhsfy3b0h1.png?width=3072&format=png&auto=webp&s=acad98d81fb69c919ac635dcc48d4122dcbf7eca

Do "deep" knobs exist? Should I just buy additional nuts to put beneath the control plate and locktite them in place on the threaded part of the pot?

Planning on upgrading the electronics on my Chinese jbass. I can probably do it without removing the strings, but just curious in case I decide to.

I'm also going to replace the strings, but I figured I'd do it one at a time.

I need a pair of headphone for practicing - will be running them through my Fender Rumble 40. I've got a set now, but they clip when I turn it up past like halfway or so, I don't think they're meant for heavy bass.

3.5mm or 1/4", I have adapters either way if needed. Amazon preferred so I can easily return 'em if they don't work out.
