Considering a 2023 HW4 Model X. Coming from 2023 HW3 Model Y. Yeah or nah?

Hi All,

Currently driving a 2023 Model Y with HW3 and FSD v14 lite. Kind of got frustrated waiting for v14 Lite and looking for HW4 cars. Used HW4 Juniper MYs are kind of expensive, almost cost of a new, and for that money it's not that big of a stretch to get a much bigger and better 2023 HW4 model X. Is it a good decision? Any pitfalls I'm not aware of? FSD is a must.

Thanks for sharing!

Tesla CA Incentives Gone in Five Days: Share Your Succes Getting Used M3

I was planning on getting a used Tesla M3 for my student sometime closer to the end of the year. Then the news about CA insentive popped out. Thought that would be nice to utilize it later on, but it seems to be exhausted by August 8th. Did anyone buy a used Tesla in CA with this incentive? I briefly checked the used prices last week and they seemed to be outrageously high.

Now my thinking is if Tesla was required to match the amount (go with CA 50/50), them bumping up prices for new cars would've been noticed and not welcomed. What about the used prices? Less attention... Tesla seems to prioritize sales of new cars... Convince me if I'm mistaken. Folks who have been closely following the used pricing with this incentive in mind, share your thoughts and observations... I wonder if the pools for new cars and used cars are the same, or if there were two separate allocations...

PS. This might've been appropriate for other subs, but the algorithm let me post only here, as it reads like a question

v14 Lite Arrived to the Standard Software Update - I'm guessing the bulk of FSD Users on HW3

Yeah, the title... I thought it would take a month or so after the release to the Advanced Update folks, but they seem to be confident in it and don't take time for additional polishes. Or maybe in some kind of hurry. Anyway, Congrats to the HW3 Standard Update setting folks!

Thieves disguised as fishermen target surfers’ vehicles, credit cards at San Diego beaches

Investigators say several thefts have happened in the La Jolla and Pacific Beach areas this spring

Surfers are being warned against leaving their car keys and wallets behind when heading out into the water after law enforcement personnel announced this week their investigation into a series of thefts at San Diego beaches.

Four reported thefts occurred in the Pacific Beach and La Jolla areas between March and June 16, and at least one vehicle theft occurred in the Bird Rock area, California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber said.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the San Diego County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, or RATT, a specialized unit consisting of 14 agencies from across the San Diego County region.

Investigators said the thefts are being done in beach areas by thieves often disguised as fishermen, Grieshaber said. The thieves surveil the surfers and watch them unload their vehicles before the victims enter the water.

The thieves then look for concealed vehicle keys that the victims hide, such as in magnetic lockboxes, before entering the water. The thieves find the key and steal the vehicle or take the victims’ credit cards to use, Grieshaber said.

“When the victims entered the water, thieves would steal the vehicles and use the victims’ stolen credit cards to make fraudulent purchases at nearby retailers, including Home Depot, Vons, CVS, Ralphs and Dick’s Sporting Goods,” Grieshaber said.

In the Bird Rock case, detectives recovered the stolen vehicle key, as well as thousands of dollars in items that were purchased with stolen credit cards. Two arrests have been made so far in connection with the thefts.

Investigators said they believe more victims may exist and are seeking additional information about vehicle thefts with similar circumstances. The task force asked people with information to contact RATT at 858-627-4000.

Is there a way to buy OnePlus Tab 2 or Tab 3 tablets on the US (with Snapdragon 8) for a reasonable price?

It seems that OnePlus is curtailing its international operations and merging its offices in China. When the news popped up, like last fall, their official OnePlus webstore had a deal for Pad 2 for some ridiculously low price, but I was hoping to wait a little and get Pad 3 on sale. That deal was quickly gone, now the Pad 3 is also gone. I'm looking only for pads with Snapdragon 8 chips.

Passing Six Figures - This fall, at least 16 colleges will cross a new threshold we knew would come one day but still is surprising: a price tag above $100,000 a year – by Jeff Selingo

As probably many parents, visiting this sub, I was looking for ways to cut the costs and figure out the way leading to a sensible merit scholarships at a nicely ranked university. At the end, frustrated, I decided for myself that the entire definition of a merit scholarship is a clickbait, abused by influencers, advisors and anyone in this field to generate clicks and attract attention... All colleges we strived to go, did not provide merit, only need based aid, for which we don't qualify. At the same time, the schools we would not look at were dangling a carrot/promises of a merit scholarships...

Final Solution? It came to the in state public.

Only after my oldest got in, I found out about Jeff and his Buyers and Sellers List. It was a relief and as a result, much clearer goal and narrowed focus with my younger one.

Jeff Selingo is a bestselling author, one of his books Who Gets In and Why: A Year Inside College Admissions resulted in creation of the Buyers and Sellers list:

A new way to think about your college list: the Buyers and Sellers

This excerpt is from Jeff's recent newsletter, which I highly recommend to any student or parent researching the financial side of a higher education... with one caveat... as it became the industry standard, Jeff talks a lot about merit scholarships, discounts and so on, to keep visitors engaged. If it brings some value - great! For me it was a clear confirmation of the fact that the in state public is the best choice.

"This fall, at least 16 colleges will cross a new threshold we knew would come one day but still is surprising: a price tag above $100,000 a year.

Driving the news: When you add in miscellaneous expenses such as books and transportation that the federal government requires schools to factor into financial aid, the colleges now part of the six-figure club include Duke, U. of Chicago, USC, Georgetown, and Amherst…

85 colleges were already charging more than $90,000 last year so look for more entrants into the six-figure club in the next few years.

Background: It’s not just the number itself that’s fascinating. It’s what happens when institutions approach such a round number.

Consumers react differently to round numbers, even if, in reality, there isn't a real difference. Retailers know it. Home sellers know it.

That’s why several institutions are just below the $100,000 mark, sometimes by just a few dollars. Brown’s sticker price for 2026–27, for instance, is just $16 shy of the six-figure mark: $99,984. It allocates precisely $2,878 for living expenses,

Colleges have more discretion over cost-of-attendance calculations than many realize. Research has shown substantial variation in student expense allowances that aren't always explained by differences in local cost of living.

Why it matters: In some ways it doesn’t. Four in ten American colleges provide a discount on their sticker price to at least 80% of students without demonstrated financial need.

That makes the advertised sticker price, whether it’s $100,000 or $60,000, less meaningful to families who know they won’t pay it, and many increasingly view it as a suggested price that they can negotiate.

At the vast majority of private colleges, about three-quarters of freshmen receive merit aid, regardless of how wealthy their families are.

Yes, but: Most of the colleges approaching or crossing the $100,000 mark enjoy enough demand to avoid widely discounting tuition, even as they raise sticker prices year after year.

We are seeing signs that families are pushing back. The evidence is still early, but it's notable:

Early Decision applications are growing more slowly than other application types.

One enrollment consulting firm reports declining yield rates among full-pay students at some of the most expensive colleges.

Bottom Line: For decades, colleges assumed there was always another student willing to stretch financially for a prestigious brand. As sticker prices approach $100,000, that assumption is being tested.

*Will prices just keep going up? … this money quote from Larry Bacow, the former president of Harvard, says a lot: “There is no natural constituency for cost control on campuses. Universities compete by advertising their inefficiencies,” including small classes, hands-on experiences, and luxurious amenities."

To All Who Tried and Failed to Setup WhatsApp Account with the Google Voice Number in the Past - TRY AGAIN NOW - IT WORKS!!!

It was discussed so many times on this sub: anti-spam and anti-fraud policies of WhatsApp blocked VOIP in general and GV numbers in particular from registering a new WA account:

*+1-XXX-XXX-XXXX - is not a valid mobile number for the country United States* \- was the end point...

I couldn't register WhatsApp accounts for kids in the past couple of years.

Today I tried, and it worked

  1. The verification code came to the Spam GV folder
  2. GV numbers were in use for the last 5-7 years
  3. Upon establishing WA account, I also linked the email (gmail), to have an additional recovery method

Not sure about newly claimed GV numbers, most likely the restriction is still in place, as it should be. Seems WA corrected their VOIP policies for GV veterans.

Cheers!

At&t Fiber... Does Fiber Actually Enters Home and Runs to a modem or is it a Telephone cable at the end. Tired of Spectrum's creeping up fees.

Young reps from At&t kiosk at my local Costco actively push At&t Internet fiber promotions. Once At&t promo guy rang my door. They all talk about At&t Fiber Internet allegedly already here and ask to sign up for an Internet deal. However nobody can provide specifics:

  1. to what final distribution point the optic cable runs in my neighborhood,

  2. confirm that the fiber will be coming to my house telecom panel,

  3. how are they going to pull it through the underground conduit to reach the telecom panel,

  4. and how the optic cable is going to be wired to reach the modem.

The only confirmation they provide is entering my address to the At&t website and cheerfully declaring that I'm eligible for the promotion.

From my understanding, fiber cable should reach the modem uninterrupted for in house Internet connection to be called and reach optics fiber ping and speeds. Correct me if I am wrong.

My strong suspicion is that the optics cable will stop either at the neighborhood hub or my house telecom panel and continue through the telephone cable to reach the modem.

I also don't want them to interfere with the Spectrum coaxial cable, like making me sign some paper, tie their optics to Spectrum's coaxial and pull coaxial out through underground conduit, effectively replacing it with fiber. Ideally I'd like to have TWO competing Internet providers fully equipped to bring a speedy connection to my modem. Is this even achievable? I'm just tired of Spectrum's creeping up fees.

I also read here about customers from the Bay Area, who signed up for the At&t Fiber promo and are still waiting for the city to issue some kind of permit.

Ear plugs for lap swimming that works?

For those who have to use ear plugs, what is the best working solution for lap swimming? I stopped swimming a while ago due to the left ear drum perforation, and miss swimming a lot. I tried a couple of plugs, #1 silicone plugs just getting lost in the pool, probably caused by constant body movement. Not sure, but my ear canal might also fluctuate along with body moving 🤣. #2 regular rubber plugs seem to hold a little longer, but also require readjustment like every two laps. Am I doing something wrong? Did you find the solution that works for long lap swimming with flip turns? I did surgery on a drum to restore it, but it didn't work. Thanks!

Could a left knee pain on the inside caused by rowing?

I am not an experienced rower, just use the rowing machine as a cardio add on to lifting. M57, 220lbs. I know I might be over compressing on the catch, aiming for a longer stroke. I also tried rowing both with vertical knees and out maybe 20-30 degrees, not with the specific form in mind, just to have some space for my belly to fit it on the catch 😂. I row sporadically for the last couple of years, and aim to go for 10k, in about 44 to 46 minutes, so hope a little more than a complete newb. No pain whatsoever on squats or deadlifts. Just feel it during pre workout stretching the hamstring by doing a side lunge, or a really deep ATG bodyweight squat (ass to the grass). The right knee is totally fine. Thanks! Edit: Inner surface of the left knee - medial compartment?
