CD: R2 Review (TLDR: went further at higher speed than that other video...)
A complimentary article from traditional automotive journal. Range test was somewhat similar to Kyle's Out of Spec results but CD did better (both cars had the same 21" wheels). Whereas OOS did 253 miles at 70mph, Car and Driver tests at a higher 75mph speed and achieved more range out of the R2 at 260 miles. Granted CD doesn't run EVs until they die per their testing notes like Kyle did, but nobody really runs an EV down in the real-world either.
Not a side-by-side test, but the really interesting comparison is to other range tests for the Tesla Model Y Performance Juniper. TLDR: nobody can come even remotely close to Kyle's 310 miles. When Car and Driver tested the refreshed 2026 Model Y Performance, it was able to complete 270 miles at 75mph. And Edmunds tested the 2026 Model Y Performance and got 292miles before it died with a combination of 60% city and only 40% highway. Edmunds has pretty strict testing methodology if you scroll to the bottom of this page. That Edmunds got less range out of the Model Y Performance averaging 40mph than Kyle got at 70mph is really head scratching. Unless I'm missing something?
Completely agree with Kyle that the EPA testing allowing for different cycles, manufacturer self reporting and the single range number for EVs just makes it so confusing for consumers. But like every other range test, your results will vary, and I think many of these numbers will show the R2 is closer in highway range to the Model Y Performance Juniper in the real world.
