Two Formulas

This may be a weird question but can you use two formulas simultaneously? We’re in the process of transitioning from similac 360 RTF to kendamil whole milk powder. But having the RTF at night would be easier than mixing powder or warming premixed. Would it be okay to keep on the Similac RTF at night but kendamil during the day?

Tell them what they want to her

Why do people you barely know think it’s appropriate to ask how you’re feeding your baby? They just always make assumptions and that really plays into some of the guilt I feel, even though I’m comfortable with my decision.

Now, when an acquaintance asks how breastfeeding is going I just say great thanks! Easier than going down the route of why we’re formula feeding and all the questions that come with it.

Is this hooch?

I’m 12 weeks postpartum and haven’t had time to attend to my starter. Finally ready to get back into it but this is what my starter looks like. I fed it once and it grew and I discarded and put it back in the fridge around 6 weeks ago. Is this hooch? Or something else? If it’s hooch, what do I do now?

Baby Bjorn Bouncer Accessory

Looking for a toy bar or arch for the bouncer. We have the toy bar but it seems kinda boring and also I don’t like how the pieces are all hard and wooden since my baby thrashes his arms around. We tried the Tiny Love off Amazon but it’s really awkwardly shaped and he can basically only play with the bee that hangs off the middle and nothing else. Any other recommendations?

Woolino

Thinking of purchasing the Woolino sleep sack but not sure it’s worth the price. What are your thoughts? We’d have to buy 2 in case of MOTN accidents. Also considering the GunaMuna. I guess I’m not seeing why it’s so well loved

Waking from Nap to Feed?

A few sources say to limit naps to daytime 2 hours and wake baby up to feed. Are we doing this?

Currently LO feeds around every 3 hours, day and night (occasionally 4 hours at night).

Philips Avent Nipple Flow

When did you move from level 3 to 4?

I know these bottles are controversial so I’m not looking for opinions on them, just want to know when you increased the flow if you do use them 🙂

Mildly jealous of BFers

I’ve been EFF since around 5 weeks old and let me start by saying I don’t regret it at all. There were many reasons why I couldn’t. I hope I don’t get flack for this post.

I was in a nursing room in the mall feeding my baby his bottle. We haven’t been out much so never been in one of these rooms. A mom and her baby came in, sat down and she began to nurse. She was done in less than 5 minutes, burped the baby and left. In the mean time between preparing the bottle, feeding and burping I was stuck in there for 15-20 minutes. And I had to hold him upright after due to spit ups.

For the first time, I felt jealous of BFers. No preparation in advance, super quick, no thoughts over how much to prepare or how much was left behind in the bottle. Sorry if this offends anyone but I just wanted to express my feelings around it 😢

Transitioning from Contact Naps

Son is 10 weeks old and almost exclusively contact naps. We’ve only had success transferring him for like maybe 20-30 minutes in the past but most of the time he wakes up. I do the same technique as I have success with at night. I’ve accepted that contact napping is normal and the best way to get him daytime sleep.

My question is - when and how did you transition your baby to taking naps in the crib without waking up immediately after the transfer? Do I just keep trying and hope one day it sticks? The issue is that it’s 50/50 whether I’m able to rescue the nap once I transfer.

Swaddle Fighting?

My 10 week old has been using a Velcro swaddle to sleep since around 2 weeks old. He started wiggling his hands out of it religiously around 8 weeks so we decided to switch him into the love to dream arms up swaddle and he’s still not showing any signs of rolling and we didn’t want to interrupt his sleep patterns too early and he still only sleeps 2-3 hour stretches in the crib at night. I’ve noticed him rubbing his face a lot and thrashing around in the LTD sack, and I thought this was active sleep but sometimes he wakes himself up and we have to soothe him back to sleep around 1.5-2h. Is this a sign that my baby just doesn’t like swaddles anymore? Is it interrupting his sleep to fight it? Should I just go to a sleep sack? Any experiences with this?

Transition to Swaddle

Our son has been using a Velcro swaddle basically since 2 weeks. He is 9 weeks old. He’s not the best sleeper so whatever we can do to keep our 3 hour stretches and not go backwards, we will take. He has no signs of rolling but obviously I know developmentally it is coming. We have been putting him in the love to dream sleep sack almost as a transition as the hands are a bit more free than a Velcro swaddle which has them tightly close to his body. It’s also the one where I can unzip one arm at a time eventually to start the transition to a sleep sack.

My question is: When did you transition your baby out of a swaddle? When they showed signs of rolling OR well before this out of precaution and anticipation? Like I said, I don’t want to mess up the decent but short stretches we get too early as it’s been hard to even get here. But I will do it if it’s a better idea to do it early.

What contributes to “it gets better”?

I think a lot of people ask “when does it get better”? But obviously that is different for every baby due to every child being on their own timeline. Some babies sleep through the night at 6 weeks, some 6 months, some 2 years.

My question is - what were the things that happened that made it better? Was it sleeping through the night? Consolidated or less contact naps? Longer wake windows? What made it get better?

Sincerely,
A FTM finding it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel

Logging Brief Wake Ups

If the baby wakes up briefly in the night but let’s say I place a pacifier and my hand on his chest for a minute and he’s back to sleep - do you log this as a wake up? He is fully awake with eyes open, moving around, for a few minutes before I enter the room and back to sleep within a minute of me soothing.

Day vs Night Feeds

Do you offer your baby the same amount of formula for day feeds as you do for night feeds?

Ours struggles with spit up on his back which can make sleeping uncomfortable. He can take around 4 oz, rarely 5 during the day every 3 hours (a recent increase) but at night I only give him 3 oz. We do burp and hold him up before putting him back to bed but I’m afraid to increase his night time feed amount. After the 3 oz he seems like he could take more but I can also soothe him back to sleep fairly quickly without it.

Happy Spitter - Worth trying “gentle” formula?

I’ll be transitioning my baby off similac 360 RTF to powder formula at 2 months old. Planning to gradually introduce the powder. I’m trying to decide which powder to choose. He is a happy spitter, and always has trapped burps which I think contributes to his discomfort when laying on his back (we already burp him a million times before putting him down and hold him upright for 15 min). Sometimes he’s fussing an hour after eating and we pick him up and he burps and spits until and is fine after this. Overall it sucks but we are used to it and figure he will grow out of it eventually.

Is it worth trying a gentle formula like Similac Total Comfort or Nutramigen? I don’t mind the cost at all if it helps him but I wonder if anyone has experienced downsides to these partially hydrolyzes formulas? I’m worried about gas/constipation etc. overall his stools are very regular.

When did it get better for you?

This question is specifically for the parents whose babies weren’t good sleepers from the early weeks - for example, I hear about babies sleeping 4+ hour stretches from the first few weeks and are sleeping 6 hour stretches and not even 3/4 months yet. I want to hear from those of you who had babies who were bad sleepers, getting up every 1-2 hours throughout the night. When did it get better for you? Anything you think contributed to this? Even if it’s just time!

Weaning Advice

I’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop pumping. I am only 5.5 weeks postpartum and don’t want to get into the details of why. I know this is an exclusive pumping group but I was topping up with formula. I have been pumping anywhere between 4-6 times a day and producing averaging around 40 ml per pump for both breasts. What is the best plan for weaning as soon as I can?
