I just got duped out of $2,000

I'm completely beside myself. I was subleasing from a friend of a friend and we had to break the lease early because the sublease was unsafe. I wanted to keep everything on good terms because we had a similar situation in life to this person we were subleasing from. We were both recently married, moving in with our partners for the first time. She just signed a year lease with him so she was keen to get her old apartment sublet to somebody. We bonded over that and I felt happy that I finally had a sound landlord.

Flash forward to two months later, we have to leave the apartment. I tell her that I'm planning on breaking the lease early. I ask her if there's any chance we could keep some of the deposit.

I know what you guys are gonna say - of course she can keep the deposit. We signed a contract.

But we were also friends. Nothing was broken in the apartment, we left on good terms.

And she never told me she marrying a millionaire. I just saw her apartment. The place is worth millions easily. She doesn't need to keep that money. Of course, it's her right to. But it's not what's morally right.

Me and my partner are living paycheck to paycheck. The apartment we were subleasing in was in a low income neighborhood. She knows what it was like to live there and how no one would volunteer to if they could afford to live elsewhere. I didn't realize she had been living so well off. I thought she was just marrying a normal dude. I thought she needed the money from the deposit.

I'm so heartbroken. I feel like such an idiot. I should have never moved in there in the first place. Now I'm down $2,000 and it's going to take us months to save that money to get a new place again. To her it was nothing. I'm so sad and angry. I feel so misled.

Looking for a quiet sublet for 6 months as a neurodiverse person

Hi. I'm really struggling to find a quieter apartment in NYC (please don't make fun). I am very sensitive to triggered by irregular noise and just need something semi-quiet or at least with regular noise. Laundry in building is stronger preferred. Other than that we have no requirements. I don't know where to look for this and I'm feeling so overwhelmed. If anyone has any leads please let me know.

In short - looking for something quiet, a sublet at least until the end of the year, though 6 months would be ideal, laundry in building, and around $2,300. We could do a studio or 1bedroom.

Thank you!

I'm getting incredibly scared now

Hi everyone. I've been looking for jobs for a long time now in NYC. I am neurodivergent and this makes this market and search very confusing and isolating for me. I have been working 9-5 every day looking for a job for the past six months. I've tried so many methods - cold calling, LinkedIn network, applying across job boards online, workforce 1 finding out about jobs from Instagram stories/people I follow, using a groupchat for jobs that I'm in...I've tried everything. I have applied to all sorts of jobs - I will do anything except hospitality (I have worked hospitality in the past and because I am nd so this is a lot harder for me and I have been in a few scary situations because of it). I am so exhausted and I am genuinely terrified now. I cannot get a job at all. I am so scared I cannot pay my bills or save or provide a good life to me and my family.

Please help. If anyone knows a way out of this cycle I'd really appreciate it. I'm breaking.

Can you guys give me some recommendations?

Hi everyone, hope you’re all having a cozy night in watching some great romcoms

Just wanted to ask about any recommendations for movies because Ive been spending a lot of time inside during a stressful period in my life. Naturally I have watched my favorite genre and my favorite films in that genre a lot recently, but I don’t want to wear out the magic of my favorite films. I’m looking for some romance movies that have a similar vibe to my favorites. Currently, my favorite romance movie is actually Materialists (2025). I completely love that movie and the message and the whole chilled out atmosphere of it. I also really love Past Lives too (I wish Celine Song had more movies!!!)

But I also love the whole genre of romance/romcoms. Some of my other favorites are:

-The Holiday

-Plus One

-Something’s Gotta Give

-Silver Linings Playbook

-Her

-Call Me By Your Name

-Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

-Moonlight

Anyway, recommend me your unexpected favorites. Ive been a fan of the genre so long I’ve seen most of the classics, I’m looking for some deep cuts! :)
