Actual good text resources (websites, books) for self-learning guitar?

If genres are important, I'm mainly into jazz, funk, ambient, metal, and rock (particularly prog). General experience with learning instruments has taught me that a lot of web resources tend to be either poor quality if free or plain scams if paid, so I'm open to suggestions on reputable online sources and any book publications that would help with self-teaching guitar. Thanks!

How are you really meant to play a Gaki from the first edition of Vampire the Masquerade (if at all), before Kindred Of The East reworked? them

^(* How are you really meant to play a Gaki from the first edition of Vampire the Masquerade (if at all, before Kindred Of The East reworked them? I hate not being able to edit titles.))

I read the "Hong Kong: Gaki" section in "A World Of Darkness" and honestly feel really confused. How do these disciplines (like rift) work? How do you embrace someone exactly (via the ritual, I assume)? What characterizes their appearance (besides I presume, being Japanese) Are hima meant to be playable, or are the Gaki short term characters meant to end in suicide? Are they meant to be played at all? If so, is there a sheet I could get somewhere that keeps track of all these variables?

It's confusing, but they sound appealing, for a 1e thing I wanna try with my table. I'd love to know how to properly play one.

Is starting with E♭ clarinet bad for someone who never played clarinet before, but has played other reed and wind instruments?

Greetings, r/clarinet! I've recently been wanting to buy another wind instrument, and after listening to enough clarinet jazz, I'd like to get one. My previous experience has been with alto sax and harmonica, so I have some experience with both single reed instruments and wind instruments in general, and I've been wondering if I should go for an E♭ or B♭. I personally prefer the sound of the former and heard some great music with it, plus I need smaller instruments as I have frequent flights, so I've been wondering if it would be too difficult for a beginner to try one, and I'd like to know if it's ill-advised to do so. Thank you.

The illusion of progress.

I tended to be quite argumentative. Rarely out of plain hostility, mind you, but I was very prone to debate, even if neither party really wanted to start one. I have been trying to curb this, though, and to great success; or so I thought. I had a pretty big argument a couple weeks back in a group chat and was then told, by someone who rarely talks there, that she doesn't check the group because it feels like we argue all the time. I asked if I really do it that often, and everyone present in the conversation said yes. I felt shattered by this, because it seems I can't self assess my own betterment at all. What looked from my perspective like great strides, actually hasn't changed at all. How am I to self improve if I don't know if it's even working? I can't say.

Should I run Mummy: the Resurrection or Mummy: the Curse? What are the draws of each? Advice on running the game in either case (do I need any historical knowledge beyond the books, etc.)?

Both of the Mummy books look appealing to me, and I've been itchin to run something in that fashion, I'm just not sure which system of the 2 to go for. I have no qualms with nWoD 1e, so I don't have a strong preference for oWoD vs nWoD here.

[V20] Salubri Watcher/Wu Zao in the modern nights: mechanical questions and roleplay advice

In the V20 vampire (not dark ages) book, it says that the watcher caste essentially gets to pick between obeah and valeren, with valeren only having the warrior caste powers. Is there something in lore that prevents me from really taking the old watcher valeren? Is it actually allowed mechanically and I'm just stupid?

I'd also love any RP tips for the salubri in the modern nights. I'm specifically aiming to have a watcher/heale disguised as another clan in order to enter the camarilla, possibly revealing his clan to a few trusted kindred, but tips for the whole clan with any sect are highly appreciated.

Taste is subjective, and I understand that, which is why I'm asking out of legitimate curiosity - if you prefer 5e even after seeing the earlier editions, why?

I understand taste in editions is as subjective as taste in systems is (I actually love wraith and Chronicles of Darkness!), a lot of the times I find the answer to a question on this subreddit, only to read it and realize it doesn't make sense, which is caused by being inherent to 5e.

I ask this, not out of judgement against players, but out of curiosity to see how other WoD fans think, what is it that draws you to 5e? I could understand maybe liking it in a vacuum, but a lot of the times I read the rules, they seem both streamlined and lacking in flavor. Stuff like the merging of the necromantic clans, to how the disciplines work, etc.

We all have our preferences (I swear by V20), and I'm not saying it's inherently wrong, but to those of you who tried the other versions and still prefer V5: why so?

edit: well, thread consensus seems pretty much to be more or less what i expected: more approachable, more balanced, less overload... while i still am not into v5, i can understand the philosophy behind tye preference, and i find it interesting how much taste in the same system can vary (i saw some proclaim 2e as their favorite in other threads!)

edit 2: made this post whilee drunk out oc my mind, still am, probably stupid, but im glad for the insights

Would it be wise to read older clanbooks for 20th anniversary?

Hi, I'm interested in knowing if there's any point in reading older clanbooks if you already read the V20 corebook. Specifically, since I intend on playing some of the bloodlines (baali, cappodocian, nictuku, maeghar, dracul), I do wonder if the outdated-ness of the old books would have any value, or even outright hinder the game. Thanks!

Which theories of the nature of the mind are not compatible with Mahayana Buddhism?

Specifically, I started wondering this from the perspective of Tiantai/Tendai Buddhism. The interpretations of universal Buddha-nature by both Zhanran and Saichō seem to explicitly argue a form of panpsychism, but I don't see it as being necessarily incompatible with many forms of monism (mainly neutral and dual-aspect) or even interactionism.

So, which theories would be incompatible? My interpretation is that physicalism, parallelism, realism, and certain forms of mind-body dualism seem incompatible, but I'm not sure if I am correct.

Is there anything special, linguistically, about curses? Why do they vary in terms of structure by language, and are there any languages that lack them?

This title is likely awfully phrased (I am not a linguist or anything close to the field), but I'm curious about how curses work, both in terms of being distinct from standard speech, and in comparison from language to language.

In my native language, Serbian, the sentence structure of curses tends to be rather unusual, and they start with "dabogda", as opposed to the simpler english "may", which could be literally translated as "I hope God makes [it so]". I'm curious how different curses can get across different languages and cultures, both in terms of contents, and in terms of sentence structrure.

It seems like the moment someone finds out you have BPD, you simultaneously are at fault for everything and lose all forms of personal agency, usually depending on the person.

At some point I need to ask if there even exists any point to actually disclosing or leaving any proof of your diagnosis. I know it would be good to fight the stigma that way, but man is it just tiring sometimes.

Am I overly negative, or is the study of philosophy, more often than not, rather depressing?

With metaphysics, the problem of free will can be pretty distressing. For me, it's personally not, but it's a common example.

With epistemology, It's not hard to start doubting what you believe about anything.

With ethics, it can be hard to follow what you believe, and this can easily lead to a self-reflective crisis.

With logic, philosophy of science, math, I just feel stupid.

With philosophy of religion, some conclusions can sound bleak.

With political philosophy, well, it depends on what you believe, but I think pretty much all forms can be spun in a very pessimistic manner.

With existinitialism? You basically start with being depressed and work your way from there.

Is this a personal problem or is there no way for me to read without getting depressed?

Why do so many psychologists, from the early days of Freud and Jung, to the present day, emphasize the centrality of romance/sex?

Hopefully this is the right flair.

It seems that many psychologists think that romantic love & sex are the end-all-be-all of the human experience. Rationally, I find this to be bogus, but I'm questioning if I'm correct there, because on a more emotional level, it does sometimes feel that way.
