I got ~2k wishlists from a single Instagram post using the 'IndieGameJoe' format

I hope some of you will find this post helpful.

You know those posts that are structured like so:

>This indie dev is making a game where you can do ABC

>- Do X
- See Y
- Explore Z

>It's called 'This Game', would you play it?

>[GAME CLIP PLAYING BELOW]

I've seen it around a lot especially from indie influencers (like IndieGameJoe), and they structure it like this for a reason... it works.

As an experiment I did a post like this on Instagram for my game Launch Window, and within a couple of days it's got about 250k views and ~2k wishlists.

It's worth a try!

[For extra info, I did also post this on other platforms (TikTok/YouTube Shorts/X) and the also didn't pick it up at all, so this is not a surefire success but still worth giving a go]

I got ~1.5k wishlists in a day from a single post using a familiar format

I hope some of you will find this post helpful.

It's worth a try!

Edit: the format is based off IndieGameJoe’s posting layout if that wasn’t clear :)

IndieGameJoe DOES get around to posting about your game

Like the rest of you, I have been desiring a post by IndieGameJoe since I came across his work a few months ago. Little did I know it goes beyond 'here game pls post'...

Initially I joined his discord server to try to shamelessly get his attention there, but in the process ended up becoming an actual member of the community and I must say it's a super supportive, informative, and chill space. I'd highly recommend checking it out here.

In the discord you can post your game to the 'show off your game' channel which Joe scours regularly for anything interesting, and he's often in the general chat where you can interact with him along with all the other interesting and knowledgable people there. The mods are pretty cool too (you know who you are).

I first got on his radar a couple of months ago, and yesterday he posted about my game Launch Window. The reaction within the community has been super positive and I am so grateful to Joe for putting the word out there!

So please, it's worth a shot, and if you don't hear from him don't be discouraged. He does his social media on the side, and he's got a metric shit tonne of DMs to sift through (I think more than any one person in the world at this point haha) but by god he does the work to champion indie games, for free, all while being a genuinely kind compassionate human being.

It took a while to get there, and at times I felt like my chances were hopeless, but I just want to reassure you that he is making his way through things and the man you'll find at the other end of the DMs is worth the wait to talk to :)

also... weshlist weshlist weshlist

Instead of traditional conveyor belts, I'm making a different system to transport resources which is quite satisfying to watch. What do you think of this WIP concept?

I love conveyor belts but wanted to come up with something a bit more fresh to transport resources in my space logistics game. I've come up with this 'Magnetic T' system that pushes cargo along from behind while levitating on supporting panels.

Not sure what to name it, what do you think?

I gained ~1.5k+ wishlists from one Instagram post. Here's what worked for me:

I hope this information comes in handy or is somewhat useful to any of you :) I'm mindful I don't want to come across as a humble bragger, I legit just want to help other devs navigate this space!

Short form socials are incredibly fickle and unpredictable. I've had quite a bit of success on TikTok (~2k followers and ~4/5k wishlists driven from there), but my clear winners on TikTok never got any traction on Instagram Reels or YT Shorts, often getting stuck in the "1k view jail".

I found it a bit confusing as to why this was happening, because the stats seemed pretty good (in terms of skip rate/like ratio/etc.) but they never took off. I posted one more reel on Instagram, which finally got a bit of traction (10k views), and then the next day posted another which has now blown up with 200k+ views:

It's a 12s video that consists of a very high level overview & elevator pitch of my game ("what if Factorio's automation combined with KSP's orbital physics?"), with my voiceover & captions over some clips from my latest trailer. [Link if you're interested]

3 days ago I had more posts than I did followers: 9 posts and 8 followers... now I have 800+, driving ~1.6k wishlists in that time.

So I guess my advice would be, try not to get discouraged when it feels like you're screaming into the void with no pay off. If you're trying the short-form social game, it seems like consistency pays off as the algorithms take time to learn who to push your content to, and when it finds your niche, then it can get going.

Let me know if you have any q's on the above. I do not claim to really know much at all, just got a bit lucky and sharing what worked for me :)

Getting an influencer's attention is hard...

For context, I posted a meme here last week, and he saw it and asked to see my game, but then I think I just slipped down the list in his dms 😭

Launch Window - gumptiongames - Orbital logistics physics-based space sim inspired by Factorio/KSP

Launch Window is a space sim where you grow a lone planetary outpost into a star system-wide colony. The core loop is Factorio-style automation applied to real orbital mechanics, where you're designing orbital shipping lanes, coordinating fleets, and building logistics chains that span entire planets and the spaces between them. And there may be some surprises lurking in the outer reaches...

Check out the trailer here

It's the kind of game I've always wanted to play, and ever since the KSP2 debacle I decided to built it myself.

Happy to answer any questions, especially if you're familiar with KSP or factory games.

It's basically a mixture of some of my favourite games (DSP/KSP/Factorio), where you can automate orbital routes between planets to feed and expand your colony. The distinction is that ships can only travel via orbital physics, meaning timing is very important.

Currently in early development, so there are a lot of features in the wings I've yet to share, but I hope you enjoy a peek at how it's looking right now!

Please, feel free to ask any questions :)

Way back in December I posted my old teaser here and received an incredible amount of positive feedback, so I'm excited to share this new trailer with you for Launch Window!
