To be fair, you have to have a fairly high tolerance for existential dread to appreciate Pantheon
The themes are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of computer science, philosophy of mind, and information theory, most of the emotional weight will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Caspian’s quietly determined outlook, which is deftly woven into his character—his personal philosophy draws heavily from classic coming-of-age fiction, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the implications of digitally instantiated consciousness, to realize they’re not just tragic—they say something profound about identity, mortality, and whether a perfect upload is still you.
As a consequence, people who dislike Pantheon truly ARE missing the point. Of course they say things like “it’s just another AI show” because they fail to grasp the metaphysical significance of spending three episodes debating whether deleting a backup copy is murder. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those bewildered viewers wondering why uploading humanity into a server farm somehow doesn’t solve everyone’s problems. What fools… how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, I do have a MIST tattoo. No, you cannot see it. It’s for people who’ve read at least three papers on whole-brain emulation and can explain the Ship of Theseus without mentioning the ship. Nothing personnel, cloudlet.
I recently realized that the Rick and Morty copypasta (high IQ, etc, etc) unironically applies to this show.
reddit.comIs it ever explained why Asriel needed Roger, specifically?
He could have just kidnapped a Tartar child and used them, right?
Did he only use Roger because he was there at the time?
What’s your favorite opening paragraph in Harry Potter fanfiction?
I’ll start:
*Not far from the Interstate, but through a fence, a field, a spur of woods, and over a small hill, three children were lying in the tall grass surrounding a sluggish green pond. They could hear the occasional rumble of a truck in the distance, but other than that they could almost pretend that they were all alone in the outdoors. In these last lazy days of summer, escape from adult supervision was more than enough reason to roam beyond the edge of town and into the surrounding fields and semi-wild woods. Having done so, normally they were content to sprawl out in the grass with the summer heat beating down on them and the drone of cicadas lulling them to sleep.*

So, we know Valve has 30k units available. Will it sell out in hours, minutes, or seconds?
I just reached the portion of the Manga where Mustang explains it to Ed and Al, and…they’d better do a seriously good job of convincing me State Alchemists are meant to be the good guys.
