Almost ready to give up on my Olympia SM3 smudging issue.

Cannot stop this smudge underneath type.

Troubleshooting: (skip to the bottom for the final conclusion/question)

I've made every adjustment I can figure out how to adjust with the carriage, type alignment, ribbon/vibrator position.

Tried gently bending the vibrator to hold the ribbon further away, no difference.

Even tried threading the ribbon through the vibrator backwards. It actually works until you try to type caps or change color.

I bought the $60 metal spools thinking that would definitely solve it, with many people thinking that the weight different of plastic ones wasn't providing enough resistance to hold the ribbon taught. No difference.

The fact is at this point: I'm confident that the ribbon is not being held tight enough, and therefore it's leaving enough slack that it's almost always touching the paper/platen, regardless of how far back the platen position is.

The platen is definitely hard, but smooth. If anything, a shrunken platen should leave TOO MUCH space, not too little.

A while back someone posted here about the same problem with their SM3, and they cut pieces of soft foam and placed them above the spools. I tried this with a dozen different thicknesses and materials. It helps some, definitely LESS smudge, but the slacks reappears as soon as you start typing caps or color changing. And the foam doesn't rebound and slowly compresses more and more as it sits pinched between the spools and the cover.

If you hold your finger on the take up spool and type, it solves the problem. Tension stays on it because you're holding it, no smudge.

I am convinced at this point that then problem MUST be caused by the springs underneath the carriage holders that hold the ribbon in place on either side.

How on earth can I source new springs? I can't even find any info on disassembling the spool holders, and I don't want to break anything more without guidance. Don't know if they are identical or mirrored for each side. I can't even figure out what they are called, can't find any info online or reddit or FB.

*Is there any hack anyone knows to temporarily add more tension to these springs/the level that hold the spools?

Pics show the spring and holder on the right side only. Also a page of type from a while back that very obviously shows the smudging. And a closeup that shows the ribbon resting on the paper/platen.

Please. Please help me here. I just want this thing to work properly.

Did I do good? Found locally for 85 bucks.

Talked them down from 125. The difference in color just between sunlight and indoors is wild.

Substantial parallels between the drawing of the lake of tears and Death's 1995 album "Symbolic".

Drawing of the lake of tears is strikingly similar to the cover of the 1995 album "Symbolic" by the band Death. With songs like "1,000 Eyes" about living in a surveillance state/society and "Perennial Quest" about enduring a never-ending journey, there are certainly parallels to be drawn.

Pretty tin foil hat tbh but there are honestly a lot of parallels you can draw between the lyrics and titles of the tracks and the overall philosophical sentiment and themes to FROM. And of course the covert art is weirdly similar, along with Adam/Eve figures rising up from the ground that could easily be compared to the Jade/Tabitha plot.

It also just happens to be one of the greatest death metal records ever.

Track listing:

  1. "Symbolic" 6:32
  2. "Zero Tolerance" 4:48
  3. "Empty Words" 6:22
  4. "Sacred Serenity" 4:27
  5. "1,000 Eyes" 4:28
  6. "Without Judgement" 5:28
  7. "Crystal Mountain" 5:07
  8. "Misanthrope" 5:03
  9. "Perennial Quest" 8:21

All song lyrics are easily googleable. Check out a few and it's honestly funny how many connections one could make if they were so inclined.

▲ 2 r/clocks

What key(s) do I need for this model Ansonia clock? Cannot get a straight answer.

Will one of these new universal keys work?

Of the original Ansonia keys, are there multiple different sized ones? How to identify the correct one when sellers do not have sizing info listed and there's nothing stamped into the keys to identify size?

I do not have the clock yet to measure anything. I want to order a key ASAP so I have both at the same time.

Google slop says "American #6 3.6mm" for the main winding key and "American #0000 1.8mm" for the slow/fast regulator. Does that sound right?

If correct, how do I identify an original Ansonia double sided key of those sizes?

Account I've used for years is suddenly bugged/unusable since last week.

I've been using this stremio account for maybe 3 years. Starting this past weekend, absolutely nothing within this stremio account will load on any device. Tried multiple different instances of Android TV, mobile app on Android, desktop (both versions of Windows app + multiple browsers). Once logged in, nothing is clickable, not even menu screens of library items or media. Everything is an infinite loading screen. The only thing you can click on that will function is the settings tab and the add-ons tab. Clicking on any piece of media or the library results in an infinite loading wheel, a black screen, or the cat mascot saying "no information found about this".

I have of course as mentioned tried every possible platform and device available to me. Logged in and out multiple times. Went one by one and removed every add-on checking after each one, zero change. Not an internet issue. Everything else perfectly fine, and I tried over cellular and a virtual Wi-Fi network from my phone.

Nobody has accessed this account except me.

After multiple days of trying everything possible, thinking that the problem was my add-ons, even with zero add-ons installed, the problem persisted. So I said fuck it, and made a new account, just to see if it was the same. And suddenly everything works perfectly on every device I tried, exactly like it was before on my real account. So the account itself is very clearly the issue, not the app or the hardware or anything else.

Now normally I would say whatever, I'll just use the new account, but I have 3 years of history and saved library items on that account. I spent 4 hours last night trying to find a way to export the library data and import it to the new account, and it's apparently impossible. Tried importing the JSON file from stremio to Trakt to then sync it via Trakt with the new account, but the JSON file that stremio outputs is unusable garbled nonsense that doesn't have any of the right identifying information for Trakt to read for any of the media I've watched. Note that I did not use Trakt before, so the history is only in the original stremio account.

I found one possible solution for migrating account information from one to another, but you have to give them your full login email and password for both accounts to use it. That seems more than a little sketch for a random tool somebody vibecoded and threw up on GitHub, so I want to avoid even attempting.

Any ideas on what is causing the first account to be frozen/how to fix it?

Night and day difference after making new account, even with all add-ons installed, working perfectly. Original account is currently clean, zero add-ons, and completely unusable.

This only started after I switched debrid providers. I'm not going to name anything because I don't fully know the rules of this sub regarding that stuff. I find it hard to believe it could be a coincidence that the timing is on the same day after multiple years unchanged with zero issues.

Tldr how do I unfreeze the original account, OR how do I successfully migrate watch history and library data to new account? I don't care about migrating add-ons, I already did that manually.

Anyone else come to the conclusion that they are priced out of this hobby?

Prices of anything have become absolutely wild. Anyone with a smartphone can reverse image search and see the crazy eBay listing prices, and everything gets priced based on those listings.

I'm not saying deals don't exist, but they are so rare at this point. And this hobby has gotten popular enough that there's almost always someone getting there before you or willing to pay more.

It really seems like the only people that get interesting things are retired or don't work, and have significant disposable income (or are full time resellers). I mean seriously, how many people who work a normal shift at a day job can show up to an estate sale (one of the few places you might find curated collections at a reasonable price) at 8am on a Friday?

I see these posts of people driving a 2000 mile round trip over 4 days to buy 3 copies of the same lamp. What working class person has the time and $ to just do that on a whim?

Thrift/donation stores scan donations with lights ahead of time and list them on global auction sites instead of putting them out on the floor. Anything that does make it gets scooped up by resellers that go around to every shop in town 5 minutes after opening, so they can go on eBay and FB marketplace and sell them for 10x what they paid.

Just saw a thrift store near me make a post showing they just got a massive collection 6+ shelves worth. A reseller (checked their account after) contacted them and bought everything before the store even opened the next day. Instead of dozens of local people getting to add something to their collection for a decent price, one person with the time and $ gets everything and will immediately turn around and sell everything online for 5x.

I'm sure I'll get shit on for posting this. Just some thoughts I was having after another failed hunt.

Can't stress enough how important it is to ALWAYS TASTE YOUR SHITS. Even when they're fast and watery. It might surprise you.

I was a little careless and dropped a loose and watery extraction into my porcelain vessel. Normally I would extricate and defenestrate such foul brown liquids with this degree of improper ratio.

But this time I decided to taste it.

Mind=blown. Easily the best shit I've had in months. What it lacks in velvety ochre crema it makes up for in spades with excellent mouth feel and balanced but also nuanced notes of raspberry and perhaps maize(?).

We can't learn unless we try new things.
