We turned the DVD screensaver into a game!

What started as a GMTK 2025 jam game has now become Insert Disc, a DVD screensaver inspired roguelike. We recently released this announcement trailer!

As a 2-person indie studio, we get to add exact references that are nostalgic for our own childhood, particularly from the 2000s era such as the lava lamp and those red coin return buttons on arcade machines. Some gameplay inspirations were Nubby's Number Factory and Balatro, but many have compared us to the satisfying bouncing of Peggle as well.

Ultimately, we wanted to make a relaxing/even hypnotizing experience that captures some of that Saturday late night gaming feel, back when we had no responsibilities or bills to pay :')

Our game title is very similar to another in active development with the same subject and we don't know if we should switch

So we made the mistake of not adequately researching similar titles before choosing our game name.

Our game is called "Insert Disc" (a roguelike), but there is another called "Please Insert Disc" (TBA, horror, larger following, steam page was up before us) seems to be in active development.

We are wondering if we should change our game name, mainly because googling "insert disc game" shows all of the other game's stuff first which could be confusing. This isn't a problem on steam direct search. The games are completely different genres, art style pretty different, but both reference DVD/2000's nostalgia. We have had our steam page up since April + started marketing and its starting to get some (minor) traction.

Thoughts on if it's worth it to switch our game name now?

We've been working on making the logo bouncing as satisfying as possible

Here's a short clip showcasing some of the bouncing FX and hit stun when you hit a special peg. We are aiming for a chill/relaxing and even hypnotizing vibe!

Finally finished drawing the capsule art for my game, what do you think?

This is my first time drawing capsule art and creating a game logo, and the process took a lot longer than expected! Our game is a DVD screensaver inspired roguelike where you bounce the logo around a 2000's CRT and rack up as much points as you can. The 2nd image was the first version of the capsule we had.

I'd love any feedback on it! Would you click on this capsule art? What are your first impressions?
