Red Light Therapy for Dogs?

I am getting a Red Light Therapy (RLT) panel for myself for pain relief from nerve injury in my ankle after total ankle replacement. It's also useful for arthritis, low back pain, skin. Then I noticed recommended for dogs as well. Plenty of scientific papers on the use of RLT in veterinary care. https://novaalab.com/a/help/article/14684

Usefullness includes:

  1. postop wound healing, especially Orthopedic surgery

  2. pain control

  3. arthritis

  4. dermatitis

  5. anxiety (releases endorphins)

  6. yeast ear infection

  7. IVDD

  8. Cognitive decline

  9. stroke

There is a warning that could cause a seizure in epileptic dogs. Mostly because blinking lights are known to cause a seizure in humans. I bet if used RLT goggles for dogs, no problem. Eye protection recommended for humans even though not known to cause eye damage. Even used for macular degeration and myopia in kids (not home devices).

I will be consulting with my vet before I use for my dog. Have any of you used RLT in your dog?

Too many young squirrels

Mama had babies and now too many juveniles in my yard scavenging under my bird feeders. I have a dedicated squirrel feeder but nuts in shell gone too soon and discarded shells messy. I do occasionally put shelled, raw almonds and walnuts out. I rarely put out peanuts for the squirrels. I worry they are eating too much sunflower seeds. I put white millet and cracked corn out for ground feeding birds. Squirrels do like the corn. Have tried some fruit and veggies but squirrels don't eat them. Have any of you fed Henry's squirrel blocks? Or that unnecessary for wild, outdoor squirrels?

Sparrow hanging upside-down on shepherds hook

I went out to refill feeders and discovered a sparrow hanging very still upside-down on shepherds hook. At first I thought was dead but bizarre would be like that on pole. On getting close to see and bird started fluttering wings so very much alive. Discovered bird's foot was stuck where horizontal bar curves into vertical part of pole. I was able to slide bird's foot up and bird immediately flew away. Very lucky to discover bird in time to save it.

In 5 years I've had this pole up, never had a bird get trapped like that. Birds frequently land on top of pole waiting turn at feeder. Pole was slick from rain. Maybe slid but don't know how this happened. What can I do to fix this potential hazard?

Preparing for 4th July Fireworks

My dog is very fearful and sensitive to fireworks, loud thunder and noises and these have triggered seizures in the past. So with big holiday coming up, there will be sporadic fireworks days leading up and especially on the 4th of July. So my preparations to help prevent seizure is CBD, his Thundershirt and staying home with him instead of going out on evening of the 4th.

Jelly for birds😒

I see alot of birdfeeders putting out jelly for birds. I know orioles love it but many other birds are seen consuming. I question whether this is healthy for them. Essentially just sugar for birds who normally eat nuts, seeds and bugs. During the summer, jelly goes bad in heat, becomes a sticky mess to get on bird feathers and attracts ants. I think it's not a good practice. Birds enjoy oranges which at least have vitamin C and some electrolytes. Wouldn't this be preferable treat?

2007 CRV with frozen door lock

I don't use key in door lock to get into car always using key fob. Car battery died so key fob couldn't unlock door. Discovered key in door wouldn't turn to unlock door so was locked out. I called lockout service to get into car. But now need to fix door lock. The actuators were replaced during recall years ago. When weather is cold, makes a loud noise on unlock. So not sure if need to replace actuator as well.

So taking car to automotive locksmith for door lock repair. If cylinder needs rebuilding, the inside door panel and window must be removed to access cylinder. Locksmith says they send to a body shop for removal and replacement of window and door panel. So this is looking costly just for door lock I rarely use. Would you spend up to $500 to fix a door lock rarely needed?

Juvenile Red-breasted woodpecker learned nut feeder

I've been watching a young juvenile woodpecker trying to feed at Brome Nut Feeder for about a week. Couldn't find the opening to get shelled peanut. Pecked at plastic near top of feeder on multiple visits. Very pleased to see success today. The juvenile finally figured it out. Feeder in pic.

Flock Raven gunshot detection trial FAIL

https://mississippitoday.org/2025/10/28/jackson-pulls-gunshot-listening-devices-some-installed-without-resident-knowledge-after-bungled-trial-run/

“We were never able to deploy all the devices, so we were never able to get a full evaluation... 57 devices were installed, covering 1.5 square miles, out of a planned 216."

"We were told that they did not have any data”

some devices had to be removed in response to resident concerns

sought to install the devices on light poles, but Entergy wanted to charge the city $500 a pop

Some devices, then, were placed on freestanding poles in residents’ lawns without their permission

I am going check cameras located along state and federal highways for Breakaway compliance

My state law relies on the Federal Highway Administration’s MASH (Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware) guidelines to mandate that roadside poles (like signs and luminaires) must be of a "yielding" or breakaway design if they are placed within the clear zone of state and federal highways.

I plan to find Flock cameras mounted on poles along state and federal highways. Any found to not be yielding or breakaway design will be photographed and reported to state DOT.
