GOD this is making me so sad that we won’t see them again for at least another year :(

Finale thoughts: it felt predictable to me, but still some badass scenes

I’m still processing that this season is really over, and we gotta wait another year for the next one. I was actually cracking up throughout the episode that so many of this sub’s predictions came true. I guess it says something about how predictable their storylines are:

Oreana will be pregnant.

Rob-Will will die.

Carter will be kidnapped.

Mariano escaped to Mexico and left Joaquin behind because he took the fall for Rob-Will’s father’s death.

He will be set up as the main antagonist of the next season.

Episode will end on a cliffhanger. All came true.

Honestly, I couldn’t stop saying NOOOOOO over and over after the Oreana pregnancy reveal, because that just means wayyy more Carter and Oreana next season.

The action in this episode was a lot less than I thought it would be (the one shoot-out ends in like five minutes, and not a lot of plot development actually ends up happening, but rather just plot reveals for the next season). A lot of loose ends don’t really get explained (was the bull a setup or mistake, what is the purpose of Dwight’s death or the leopard, what happens to the gun with Rob-Will’s and Rip’s fingerprints, where did the guy’s wife and child go, what even is the purpose of the sheriff the whole season…etc.).

I’m not sure I liked the explanation they give for why Beulah hired Beth and Rip in the first place? She obviously knew they would find out, but just waited for them to, and hoped that because she knew they were not innocent people, they would stick around? For a ranch that’s not even theirs, and for a drug world they know nothing about? And especially knowing her carelessness caused the death of their entire cattle? And she had to have known that the danger of the cartel/Mariano’s anger over Joaquin not being heir was going to be greater than the danger of Rob-Will’s threat to kill Joaquin, so why did she choose Rob-Will as the heir and not protect him properly?

And I’m not sure how I liked how they wrote Beth this episode. She basically goes on a meandering, fruitless goose chase, misses all the action, and does nothing to further the plot (much like Beth and Rip all season). Why didn’t the sheriff just tip Beth off that Carter is most likely at Dwight’s place because that’s where the sheriff always finds Carter? Especially when the sheriff seemed to know from Beth that he might be in danger?

A lot of badass scenes in general though, maybe I’ll enjoy it more on rewatch. I’m excited to find some time soon to sit down and rewatch the whole season again to see if I missed anything.

Hopes for next season: MORE BETH AND RIP PLEASE. Have storylines actually centered on them, and have them actually meaningfully move the plot forward. Write more scenes that better show the chemistry between them, because small morning chats over coffee are not enough. If Carter and Oreana must be involved, please write them in a way where the audience can develop emotional investment. Let them be more one-dimensional than just annoying.

What are everyone else’s thoughts?

Teaser Clip for Finale 1x09 “El Padrino”

This is making me so excited!! Finally the action is picking up! I wonder if the “where is she” Beth is referring to is Beulah?
