Best use of a chime?

I ended up picking up 2 chimes in my latest run. Wondering what everyone's favorite use is for them.

Right now, i'm probably picking up a cockatrice from castle warren. Wondering if i should try for 2 weretigers in antanjyl though...

Most underrated unit in the game?

I've had a couple posts pop up the past couple of days, and it got me thinking about this game again. Theres lots of discussion about the strongest units, etc. but I'm curious what peoples thoughts are on the most underrated units. The goal here is really just to share thoughts on what units people usually pass over or disparage, but that you really like, and why.

For me, it's the feathershield. Part of the reason for this is that you get them pretty late game, so it's hard to really experiment with them. (I'd really love a new game +)

So why are they underrated? I think people try to use them as a flying hoplite using sacrifice, and that sometimes works but not always. Sacrifice doesnt allow the feathershield to block. When they can block, their tower shield and better than average defense works pretty well, but without... they fall pretty quick.

So why are they underrated? Honestly, it's because they are a massive magnet. By virtue of being a flying, armored, target that you most likely have in the front row, there are so many attack that will focus on him just naturally. Archers and mages love prioritizing him, anf for the most part, he doesnt care. High magic defense, ability to block, all help him survive these attacks.

What he really benefits from is a boost to his physicsl defense, which brings me to my favorite pairing with him. He loves working with virginia. Virginia's SoB boosts his physical defense and his block chance, he shields her from magic. It creates a wall that lots of units will struggle to get through. Add some heals, and then your damage.

Some of my favorite units include feathershield, virginia, heals, aind either an elvish archer and breaker (the big smash) or 2 mages (big magic)

As a bonus, this is a great unit for a featherstaff or wereowl since archers will focus on your shield angel first.

A feathershield/hoplite would be a wall as well (probably too much so), and i still think theres probably a combo with the feathershield using sacrifice to then gift pp (maybe to a featherstaff for preemptive heals?)

All in all, not the most versatile unit, but still def has its uses, especially to protect squishier flyers or to pair with someone who can boost his physical defense

Early game economy

Hi all, im working through the early game. I'm farming katanas to build up miners and freighters. I'm currently sitting at 5 m miners (3 solid, 2 gas), 2 m freighters, 1 small courier (advanced electronics is a huge chokepoint right now, using the small courier to repeat orders electronics a few systems over to my closest wharf).

What should i be working towards? Im automining and autotrading hoping to build up my captain ratings so they have a larger range. Is it better to build up a mining fleet or freighters? Should i start working towards L ships?

My fleet is currently a scout, 2 novas, a minotour raider, a cerberus, and the odysseus. Im thinking of having the odysseus start trading just to start building up fleet ratings. Im going to make the cerberus my ship, but is there something i can/should be using the odysseus for?

Tips for playing on steamdeck?

Anyone have tips for playing on steamdeck? Ive played a little less than 20 hours and have successes. Ive upgraded my ship, got another ship to bail and captured it, did what feels like all the missions for a starting faction, but there are things that are intensely frustrating.

Navigating menus is a huge challenge, made more difficult with steamdeck controls. When upgrading my ship, the station didnt have a couple components. No biggie i thought, ill see if i can find them. The filters didnt seem to do anything, and the trade menus were stacked on each other and impossible to read. I couldnt get miners to automine. When i could even get it to start, id get an error minutes later that there were no resources. I tried to find the derelict odysseus, but there are no coordinates and nothing to help guide my ship.

Its frustrating... anyone have tips? I like the game, but navigating the menus is really frustrating.

The Marauder clan buster is my new favorite mech

I used to love the Mad-5d, but the clan buster marauder is amazing. 4 large energy slots, a large ballistic, and enough tonnage to use them. My two current builds are one with 4 clan er large lasers and a 5x ac and the other has 4 large pulse lasers and a 2x lb. One has long range laser punishment then anything that gets close gets pummelled and the other has a rapid fire ballistic and large, efficient energy damage.

Pure demon summoner post patch

I haven't played much recently, but saw that the patch went live and wanted to test it out.

My lock is a pure bind demon summoner (i dont use boiling blood). I was cruising through p8 pre-patch. Max bind demon, max demon mastery, max the demon life skill, enough points to get defilers hitting 5 targets, and an 8 range sigil of lethargy. Demon does all the damage, spread around by the defilers.

Post patch? Still cruising through p8. This build is very strong. I lost my spirit shield so was just rocking a yellow book with +2 demon skills too.

I run with an act 5 dark spearwomen with cursed and fanaticism. In the time i played (which admittedly wasnt much), i didnt see too much of a change. Damage is still good, curse applies pretty regularly, and demon health still seemed strong. I had no issue killing anything, and didnt see her life move. Act bosses could be interesting, but i havent checked them yet.

One thing i didnt check (and dont plan to intentionally explore) is whether demons were "grandfathered in" with previous life totals.

I've been playing this game a lot the past couple of days and wanted to share some overall thoughts on the crawlers! I wont be talking about one of them (no spoilers), but they are kind of intentionally broken anyway. I will say that this is also based on how i generally play. I tend to have a few closer attacks and then a lot of support (draw, stat boosting, mana tomes). The late game plan is to get wild cards and then build huge combos before dropping a sequence of attack cards. (I use the free to play arcana too for the most part)

I think its also worth talking about how the color triggers currently stack against each other when thinking about the crawlers. A lot of the crawlers tend to have similar trigger abilities but in different colors. In general, i'd say my color orders are probably yellow -> purple -> red ---------> blue.

Yellow is incredibly powerful. It includes pretty much all your stat gaining plus your extra draws with attractorbs. Because of this, the ones that trigger off yellow end up feeling the most powerful because of how often they can trigger.

Purple is next. I think it'd be a bit hard to imagine a build that doesnt use a good number of tomes (maybe a porta centric build?), so this is going to trigger a good bit too. Plus, the tomes come in 0-3 cost variety so are easy to fit in.

Red has the most unique triggers. I dont tend to use a ton of red cards in my decks. I focus on having a few that i try to cycle through multiple times. Because of this, red triggers are ok, but nothing to write home about.

Finally, blue. Blue is in a bit of a rough state currently. Blue cards are only armor and recovery, neither which advance your game (doing damage) or help build stats to do damage/cycle your deck. Even compared to purple, purple gives mana which then fuels everything else. Blue... buys time?

Wild cards are unique. I'd use the wild crawlers if you specifically want their abilities.

In terms of abilities, card draw tends to be the best (special shout out to pasqualina who builds hand size which can be very good too), then stat boosts, then way at the bottom are the attack triggers. The attack triggers just dont scale. They dont do additional damage based on combo level so are pretty rough. Dommario isnt awful since his triggers seem like they can knockback, but they are pretty bad overall.

They all also have differing starting stats and starting cards. If you are running multiple crawlers though this can all be pretty easy to work around.

So in terms of power, i'd rank them like -

S - Poppia, Puvnala, giovanna

A - Imelda, yatta, pasqualina, krochi, gallo

B - Bianca, porta, antonio, concetta, o'sole (maybe higher for him, his weapon is pretty solid), arca

C - Poe, lama, mortaccio, suor, dommario

D - Gennaro

Christine is a special case. On one hand, pentagram and gorgeous moon are both a bit problematic to use (the lack of damage on bosses is a huge issue), and her ability is usually wasted. However... her knockback does seem to have an effect on bosses. I need to play around a bit more with her to see if i can get some consistency with it. If so, she could bump up to a or b pretty easily.

Part of the reason poppia and pugnala are ranked so high is because they work incredibly well together. If you have them both out, they'll just stay out forever. Pugnala gives draw on yellow, then poppia refreshes duration for both. They also have weapons that start out with costs of 2, 3, and 4. Finally, poppia's weapon gives a wild card that then lets you keep your combogoing. Add an attract orb an empty tomb (or the free to play arcana) and you can loop till things are dead or cards crack.

Ok, so finally what could the game benefit from? Blue needs something more. My thought is to first switch the hollow heart and forever heart to blue (to give a few more cards), and then add retaliation damage. I'd see retaliation as doing armor x might when an enemy attacks, and retaliation being a restting scale like might up to a certain percent (maybe 250% to 500%?) Shield bash could be modified to start you with 100% retaliation. Combos still work to build retaliation/armor, and then boss fights become build armor, tank hit, repeat. New blue crawlers could add armor and retaliation

I also hate to say it, but switching poppea's trigger to a different color could be warranted. Pugnala+poppea is just that strong. I'd then maybe switch arca to yellow to keep the distrivution the same

I'd like to see a gem that "recalls" crawlers, maybe just discards them. Some crawlers have pretty good on play abilities even if their triggers arent as good (lama, gennaro). This combined with crawler caller could do some cool things. Edit: Crawler call already does this!

Finally, a weapon that drains mana and increases damage based on mana drained. I'd float adding that to gorgeous moon. So moon wipes out a # of enemies, drains mana, then does damage based on it. It would work well with christines purple triggers, and with moon's fluctuating mana cost (kill fewer enemies, do more damage to the rest, always do something)
