Which Langara first year math and English credits are transferable?

I'm starting Langara in fall this year and course registration is coming soon. I know that not all courses are transferable. I'm going into psychology and require one English and one math course. Which ones have transferable credits?

At what point does collecting become overconsumption?

My friend and I both like kpop but I tend to collect more photocards while she collects more albums. I always thought kpop exploited overconsumption with how many versions each album has. Sometimes it goes up to 20 just for one release. Basically my friend is super into getting all the versions but recently she wants a duplicate of each. There's one album she likes with 15 distinct variants and she has 2 of each, so that makes 30. I told her this is overconsumption. She doesn't play any of the CDs and the albums collect dust on her shelf. She said I was jealous because she has more than me but I never really cared for albums anyways. I'm not crazy, right? Who genuinely needs so many duplicates of the same album? I think she has almost 200 albums as of right now.

Post keeps getting removed for reason that has nothing to do with my post?

Basically I found a subreddit for rants and posted about liking a certain artist but being scared to interact with the fandom due to my negative experiences. The entire post was me saying how I wish that artist had a more positive fandom space. It kept getting removed for the same reason. I didn't break any of the rules, but the automoderator kept saying that I can't post things that say "it's not that deep/nobody cares/just ignore it/not this post again". I did not have any of those phrases in my post, nor did I mention any of those general ideas. Would there by any way to get my post up? I wanted to make that post open to discussion about the fandom space of that particular artist but the automoderator keeps deleting it.

BTS has good music but I'm scared of armys

I used to love bts around 2019 but fell out of them around 2022. I've been listening to a lot of their music lately and have been trying to connect with armys across several social media platforms. At first it was fun but I soon learned you cannot criticize bts at all. I don't like every single song they have released and apparently this is a crime. I know you don't have to like an artist's entire discography to be a fan, but I've encountered many people who think like that and it's negatively impacting how I see bts and their music.

It's not just me. I've talked to others who have experienced being called a fake fan, or claims that you can't love bts unless you love everything about them. And of course not all armys are like this, but all of theses negative experiences are making the overall fandom experience simply not fun anymore. I've seen people get doxxed over saying they didn't like a bts album. How fun could it be to be part of a fandom where you're walking on eggshells all the time?

AI ads look extremely cheap

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I really don't understand using AI for advertisements. I get that it saves costs because the company doesn have to pay anyone to actually do anything, but it comes off as cheap. I interpret it as the company can't afford to pay a human being, so they resorted to AI to save costs. And the thing is that all of these AI advertisements LOOK like AI! There is definitely AI out there that can generate realistic photos and videos, but the ones that generate these advertisements always look cheap. I don't see this as a long term benefit. I mean, people are saying that if they see an AI ad they get turned off from that specific comlany/brand. I don't see any benefits to typing in a prompt that will generate tacky slop

Are any coffee shops open in the evening in Vancouver?

I've been wanting to sit in coffee shops around 7 or 8 pm, but nothing seems to be open. I wish this city had more late cafes! I know that some Starbucks stores are open later but I'm not a huge fan. Is there anything else?

Collecting photocards is not that different from collecting vinyls

I've had this friend since the start of high school. I always liked kpop and she always liked Taylor Swift. She's always telling me how weird it is that I collect kpop albums because you get photocards and apparently collecting photocards are weird. The thing is, she collects Taylor Swift vinyls and her goal is to have all of them.

She claims that collecting photocards is weird and creepy because I have faces of random kpop idols in my room. Taylor Swift's face is on all of her vinyls and that's not weird and creepy to her? She has this double standard when it comes to kpop. We're basically doing the same thing but it's a problem when it comes to photocards apparently.

Why do barely any adults debut in k-pop groups?

I know that the industry is exploitative and will never stop debuting minors. But can we get more adults in the industry? A lot of groups who debuted within the past few years have similar concepts. You can't do a mature concept if everyone in the group is a teenager. It seems super watered down and I know k-pop has always been like this, but I miss mature adult groups. I don't resonate with a lot of these idols because they're so young. I try to check out as many adult groups as I can, but I wish there were more debuting in the industry. I've been liking heart of woman's discography but there's still an 18 year old in the group. I'm more comfortable stanning adult idols

Lemonade or Armageddon?

Seen a lot of people say they prefer lemonade. I love all of the songs on lemonade except for roll, but I personally prefer the genres on armageddon. Didn't realize so many disagreed but to each their own

Boompala by le sserafim isn't as bad as people say it is

Gave boompala a listen and it honestly isn't that bad. The only really "bad" thing about it is the remixes. Who is listening to boompala slow and reverb? I actually dislike celebration more than boompala but unpopular opinion I guess

Are there any girl groups similar to aespa?

I've been loving aespa lately because they have such a distinct sound. I'm trying to expand my horizons by finding more groups to listen to. I don't really like boy groups and a lot of girl groups are too cutesy for me and not my taste. I've been getting into i-dle as well. Any recommendations?

My partner used AI for an assignment and I failed while she didn't

There's this girl in my law class who uses ChatGPT and Claude for EVERYTHING. She types in a prompt for an assignment, copies and pastes the entire thing into Word, changes the words in the document (still keeping the same idea), and puts it into an AI fact checker to make sure no AI is detected. For the midterm she told me she was getting a 96 which is the highest grade in the class.

I'm not complaining about my grade since I'm sitting at a low 90, but I actually do all of my own work. The thing that really made me mad is that we had a debate assignment and of course I got stuck with this girl. I wrote the first half of the script and she wrote the second. Oddly enough there was good flow to it, but the problem comes near the end. I read over what she wrote, knowing she used AI, so I rewrote the second half the night before it was due. I don't have a printer and you have to pay for the school printer so she volunteered to print out the script because the assignment was the next day.

She gave me the script on the morning of the debates and I saw that she had deleted EVERYTHING that I wrote and replaced with "her" work. I didn't have time to think about it so we did our debate. Next day teacher asked me to stay later and he told me that one of the cases I mentioned in our argument didn't actually exist and he said he knew I used AI and I would be getting a 0 no exceptions, and her grade didn't change at all.

What am I supposed to do here? I did my part of the assignment but my partner did the whole thing with AI and I took the fall? I want to tell my teacher that it was her but I don't have any proof.

I don't understand the concept of ableism

People who are ableist treat disabled people like they're not even human. I don't get it. Anyone can become disabled at any point in time. It's not like you're born without a disability and you'll stay that way. Accidents happen. Disease can turn you disabled. Old age will do it too. Why do people act like they're above disabilities if they don't have one? No one is exempt from becoming disabled.

People who used to hate k-pop now like it just because it's trendy

Wow I LOVE how I was bullied in elementary school for liking k-pop and now the same people are listening to it! I thought you didn't like my "weird Asian music" and you "can't understand what they're saying". K-pop got extremely popular globally during covid due to TikTok trends. Everyone was singing cupid and any newjeans song. The hypocrisy pisses me off to this day. Everyone thinks an interest like k-pop or anime is weird until it's popular then suddenly it's considered cool? It's a freaking music genre. The main reason people hated it back then was pure xenophobia, because they were Asian, and singing in Korean, and had only a few English lyrics. Now everyone wants to hop on the trend. I think it's great that k-pop is more well known but these same people were being so rude about it before covid. Makes me wonder if half of these people even like k-pop or if they only claim to be fans because it got trendy.

Transit fares are too expensive!

Metro Vancouver transit fares are raising again in July (surprise!) and it's getting to the point where I have to start thinking more about budgeting. The price raises every year yet the service gets worse. Most buses tend to be late, including the 99 b-line which is supposed to come every few minutes. Why am I paying more and more for horrible service? The whole point of public transit is to be affordable for people who cannot afford their own vehicles. Not to mention the talks of cutting several bus lines due to the funding the province spent on the broadway project. This city is already unaffordable. Can't we at least be able to get from point A to point B for a reasonable price?

Our tax dollars are funding FIFA advertisements?

It seems rather silly that municipal, provincial, and federal governments are spending almost 800 million dollars for FIFA. And of course those costs are getting pushed onto taxpayers.I get that FIFA is a worldwide event, but there are other issues that could benefit from this money. Look at the construction in Vancouver. The broadway skytrain is going to finish in god knows when, there are endless potholes, highway 1 has spent years adding a new lane and still isn't finished... It's not fair to the people who live in Vancouver and have to constantly hear how the city doesn't have money. City council also tried to cancel the annual fireworks due to lack of funding. Then FIFA comes here and suddenly we have hundreds of millions of dollars from taxpayers? Does this not sound ridiculous to anyone else?

'Til We Die is one of aespa's best songs

Lemonade came out and everybody is talking about lemonade, switchblade, and wda. Those are all great and they're in my liked songs. But my fav from the album is 'til we die and I have not seen ANYONE talk about how good this songs is. I've seen a few people rank songs from lemonade and 'til we die is usually near the end. Yall are missing out. This song is literally majestic and I love how aespa are experimenting with different genres on the album. Shout out to can't help myself. Another banger

Does Roblox have good games anymore?

I've been playing pretty much whatever shows up on my home feed, but a lot of these games are boring. There's no storyline, sometimes the graphics suck, and sometimes the goal of the game doesn't make sense. I swear a few years ago it was easy to find good games but now it's flooded with steal a whatever or some laggy obby.

I know it's not just me. The games have definitely changed. A lot of the stuff I used to play years ago is practically dead. Currently I've been playing flee the facility (goated), blox fruits, and prospecting. Does Roblox even make fun new games anymore? I might just suck at finding them because a lot of my recommendations are sponsored with generally bad reviews. I miss when you could hop on Roblox and instantly find something to play without even having to think about it.

Copilot made navigation harder

Is it just me or is Microsoft harder to navigate because of Copilot? I stared using it around 2018 and there have been maybe around 4 changes to the overall layout. Each time it gets more confusing but the recent Copilot update feels like hitting rock bottom. I mean, you used to be able to see all of the apps. Then an update moved them around. Now when I log in all I see is the Copilot search and the apps are completely hidden. It also takes longer to open the apps. PowerPoint has been especially slow with the design tool not working half of the time and the Word format messes up when I try to print a document. I haven't had these issues before. My guess is that Copilot just takes up so much on the application overall, but it's getting increasingly difficult to do my work. Not sure if this is just a me problem or if anyone else has similar issues?

People say we need AI for dumb reasons

A lot of the arguments from pro-AI users are just so stupid. Am I supposed to be impressed that AI generated an image? I mean, you didn't even do anything. I could put it in the same prompt and get the same result. Why should I praise you for that?

I don't understand how pro-AI people act like we NEED AI. Like it's some revolutionary invention. It doesn't actually solve anything. All it does is create problems. Doesn't solve them. And I really fail to understand how AI lets people be more creative because again, you didn't do anything, you just typed in a prompt. If you already had in mind what you wanted to draw, animate, whatever, then you already had that creativity. You were just too lazy to use it.

I'm sick of people acting like we need generative AI. I have not seen it do anything useful. No, I do not want AI to summarize the texts my friends send me. I want to read them. No, I do not need an AI summary of a movie. I want to watch it. No, I do not need AI to write an email for me. I can write it myself. AI isn't DOING anything and I'm sick of people acting like it does! Just to be clear I am talking specifically about GENERATIVE AI. I'm sick of this corporate slop being sold to use as some life-changing invention. It literally does nothing except create problems.
