Learned to tat for my dollhouse project. It's a bit of a train wreck tension and direction wise, but it's done, lol. I've got loads of vintage crochet edging pattern books that also include tatting (which I've ignored for years!). I made a single motif and then added a border to beef it up a bit. I don't think I have the patience to make it in smaller thread, lol, but it works as an antimacassar, which is what I wanted.
I want to make some piled rugs for my dollhouse but I have struggled to find the best techniques. I need sharper scissors for the trimming, but I'm pleased with this. I used a micro crochet hook on 24 count canvas. Will probably make it into a throw pillow for the teeny armchair.
For the dollhouse. I used a free pattern from DMC called "Daybreak". Mix of sewing thread and single strands of DMC.
I'm building a room box to enter in the State Fair, and I may have gotten a little carried away with the fireplace, lol. It's mostly cardboard and paint. The panelling is coffee stirrers and bamboo sticks. The "marble" tiles are cut from photographs of microscope slides showing the intestinal tract of a rodent.
Upholstery is NOT my strong suit, but each piece I make is a little better than the last. I definitely had fun with the feet! Chair is foam board, paper, and fabric. Feet are toothpicks and polymer clay. Accent pillow is crochet with wool yarn.
I made this from balsa, beads, dowels, and wire. The dowels are hand carved. Quite pleased with how the spiral carving came out!
Double sided, panels are reversible and removable. Could use a good cleaning. Pick up 11-6 Saturday in near the Moda Center.
I'm working on a 1/12 scale room box, and I made a tiny work basket (complete with WIP). The yarn is all thrifted lace weight or tapestry yarn. I scored some 0000 needles at a creative reuse store. No pattern, just lots of math. The frame is hand carved toothpicks and brass wire.
I was floored to learn that Fred Meyer's "senior discount" (once a month on the first Tuesday) is 55 and over. I thought 55+ discounts died with the last millennium. Now I need more discount spots so I can finish turning into my grandma and drive all over town with my shopping list to get the best deals.
Shout out to Modern Bread and Bagel in NYC. I go to NYC for business a few times a year and have tried the GF bagels at Rico's, Zucker's, and Liberty. Those places only have plain because they are usually sold out of everything bagels (although points to Liberty for having a vegan butter option). Modern Bread and Bagel had so many choices and definitely the most bagel-like mouth feel. Only one kind of vegan schmear, alas. But the real star here is that THEY LABEL ALL THEIR PASTRIES. Finding allergy information at a buffet, pastry case, or even on a menu in NYC is like finding a needle in a haystack. Thanks, MBandB!
