Have you guys heard of the “lipstick effect?” What’s that one small item for you when times are BAD?

So apparently lipstick sales go up in a recession or something like that. Makes people feel better. Not sure why lipstick specifically.

What’s your small feel good item? Feeling low at the moment… looking to shop during the 4th of July sale!

The burnout, layoffs, and consolidation of roles is insane! What’s the one thing you do/buy for yourself to spoil yourself when you need it?

The layoffs and burnout have been nonstop since late 2022! I’ve never seen it this bad before. I’ve never heard of it being this bad either. It doesn’t seem like just a phase anymore.

How do you guys cope when cost of living is through the roof and promotions are far and few in between?

How do you treat yourself? I feel like I need to buy/do something new and relaxing every now and then to have some excitement and novelty.

How do you manage budgeting while unemployed? Do you still buy yourself something small and nice occasionally?

We all cut back when unemployed (hopefully). But what are some things you give yourself permission to spend on without feeling too guilty?

Looking for a small present/treat for myself.

Hi ladies. Baby/kids needs add up and I do always prioritize that but every once in a while I try to buy myself a small gift as a treat. I’m looking for new recommendations. Any suggestions?

What do you do when you finally get a moment to relax?

Hi there. Being a SAHM can be overwhelming, frustrating, and lonely. What do you do to incorporate small moments of relaxation throughout your week?

Do you manage to get time to yourself at all? What would you do if you managed to get a day or 2 off from parenting? It just seems like it’s never ending!!

What is your favorite candle of all time and why?

I have so many candles at this point that I’m looking to try something that’s highly recommended by this community. Sometimes I do get overwhelmed by the number of brands there are and don’t know what to pick.

Rebuilding confidence after a string of terrible bosses back to back.

I’m a highly driven and motivated person to the extent that I have always done well growing up and I spend half of my free time and weekends learning something.

I happened to have some cruel and heartless bosses back to back at a few different agencies. A combination of people who were just not interested in coaching (when junior), extreme micromanagement, and even personal targeting (jealousy.)

When I did have good direct managers, I’d be staffed on other accounts too that had horrible leads so I was still exposed to that and I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on work.

I’ve lost all confidence to ever apply for anything again even when I see jobs that I know I’d be great at. I feel like there might be a person there who might make my day to day a living hell. It’s been a while and I can’t get these thoughts out of my head and it’s really affected me.

I’m a very driven person so it hurts even more to be in this situation. Any advice?

If you were starting out today, what would you choose to do?

Given the current landscape with the advancement of AI and everything, if you had to pick your career today, which craft would you get into in advertising?

Or would you do something else specifically on the client side? Which role? Or become a creator and own a media company? Create products and become an entrepreneur?

Is it safe to be in a job that manages client relationships and pitches for new business?

Open to all ideas.

Scentille Sale - 20% off sitewide

Another brand I’ve been loving has their sale up already! I’ve tried Yacht Club, which is so nice and serene.

My favorite though is Midnight Rose because it’s a rose that’s not too sweet. It has a nice woody/earthy balance to it so I don’t get a headache!

I’ll be checking out Garden Party this time. Should be good for summer!

For SVP+, would you still choose rising up in corporate if you could do it all over or start a business you own earlier in your career?

Once you get to the top, are there still many fears? Financial fears? If you’re let go, can you easily build a consulting business or find something through your network?

Is attempting to rise up the US corporate ladder still worth it these days?

Are future agentic AI related mass layoffs a concern for agency employees?

Once AI advances and agentic systems are fully in place, will hold cos need as many employees?

Will more work be moved in house? I see a lot of posts recommending people not to get into advertising. Why is that?

Will people still have good agency careers in the next 5-10 years?

Unique scents vs. predictable scents when candle shopping online

It’s easy to imagine what predictable scents like rose, vanilla, and lavender would smell like when shopping online. Or even a candle called Spa or Spa Day.

Would you shop a new, complex, or unique scent online without smelling it first? I would consider DS and Durga and Boy Smells in this category.

Still, these are known brands. How about if it were from lesser known brands? Do you only shop predictable scents online?

I see many interesting candles online but can’t imagine what they smell like. I believe most US based brands have a good return policy.

What helps you relax the most when you’re burned out?

Burnout has clearly become a huge issue and it would be great to talk about how we cope and share ideas with each other on what works best for us.

I hear quite a bit about going analog - how do you do this when work requires you to be constantly online and up to date?

What’s your favorite activity to help you relax?

Any products or services you find helpful?

Desperately wishing I could go back to the 90s!

If so, how did you handle the situation? Did they confess? Did they remain employed? Were they a male or female employee?

Curious to know how such situations are handled.

Door opening and closing on its own for 30 minutes straight

When my cousin passed away many years ago, I was one of the only family members who was out of the country.

He was a young carefree guy and had a naughty personality. Loved joking around and playing pranks. I cried quite a bit when I heard he passed away from his sickness. He was 22.

3 days later I was just lying in bed and suddenly my room door opened wide, closed (not fully), opened wide again, closed again. The door also had that creeky opening and closing sound. This went on for 30 minutes and I just kept staring at it happen.

There was no wind. No windows opened. And it wasn’t akin to door movements when it’s windy. It really was like someone was opening the door wide, then pulling it back. Then it just stopped on its own.

I didn’t see him but one of my uncles did see him a few days after he passed away. I like to think that he visited me one last time.

Candles that make you feel nostalgic.

Which candles make you feel nostalgic? I wasn’t a big fan of Otherland’s 90s collection. A bit too broad and generic in its naming of scents and design I felt.

While the Nostalgia Candle Company brand has too much of a party favor vibe in my opinion.

Has anyone found something worth checking out?

Which items from the 90s do you wish were mainstream again?

I’d love to incorporate the pre-digital life/activities into my current life and to raise my kids with elements of that in their lives.

I’ve heard about GenZ using digital cameras. A brand just brought back physical phones.

Love to hear about what others are doing or missing.
