There is no sanctuary

A group of people I know organised a trip. I was told how much it would cost. I paid. We organised a call to discuss the particulars and where to meet up etc. And... That's when I find out the person organising it booked us shared rooms and didn't think to tell us. Obviously the couples are sharing, but us single people were expecting our own rooms, not to get paired up with some random. I'm really annoyed.

I was a bit overwhelmed with the idea of the trip, but the fact that I don't even get my own sanctuary to retreat to is too much to cope with. I'm going to have to cancel.

Coupled up people just do not think sometimes.

Granted I should have thought to ask, but I just assumed as a perimenipausal, middle aged woman who lives alone, that I'd get my own space

I felt like in the video call we had as well that there's a core group who are already good friends and the rest of us are stragglers. I really don't think I'm going to enjoy it. I'll just feel like I'm not meant to be there. I've been in that situation on trips before and regretted going.

I'm too old to force myself to do things that are supposed to be fun, but actually aren't.

Weddings

I thought I would start a thread for anyone who wants to discuss how their parents behaved at their wedding.

I'm not married, but my sibling is and the way my parents behaved has put me off having a formal wedding. I suspect I would like to elope, like properly elope, to Gretna Green and have 2 witnesses and that's it. I don't really have my heart set on marriage, so it's not a big deal to me, but I do feel like this will be a difficult thing to explain if I ever meet someone who does want to marry me.

Sometimes I feel like my parents are torn between thinking this has to go like this because this is how it's done and things should just go according to plan and work out because that's how it's supposed to happen. But they also swing heavily towards hippy culture and hate traditional things.

You never know which thing they want to be just so and which traditions they think are stupid. It's a tightrope walk.

And they differ in opinion on everything.

It's not my story to tell. My sibling was upset when I had told someone at work about the mess that happened because they felt it was private, so I'll not go into detail, but really, the biggest issue was one parent freaking out that the other would be too untraditional and ruin everything and putting their oar in to put all that panic on my sibling. Who along with their partner, in the end, decided to bump all parents from the wedding party. I'm not sure how the partner got their parents to agree to it, but things went more smoothly after that.

Their partner is a gem and supported them through it all. They are actually very patient with my parents and will listen to them monologue for days. I don't know how I'll find someone like that.

People who can keep things nice amaze me

I had my laminate flooring replaced 2 months ago and I've wrecked it already. I dropped my glass water filter jug and it was full. It shattered really badly and I cut myself. So cleaning my hand and getting a bandaid on my cut was the first necessity. There was so much glass and water everywhere. I couldn't mop it all up properly for the glass and some of it seeped into one board in particular and it has bowed at the edge. I left my dehumidifier on for a few hours, but the board has dried badly.

It's only one edge, but I can't believe I've wrecked it already. My cupboard door has fallen off too and the panel under it was already water damaged. My kitchen is just falling apart.

My sister has a friend who always has everything in her house perfect. She was telling us a story about her other friend who had people round for nibbles after buying a new sofa and someone spilled something on it and she said, " some people just don't know how to take care of things."

Like, c'mon accidents happen. I don't know how gravity and lack of coordination don't get the better of some people. They just walk through life immune. They're the people who "know how to take care of things". I'm not one of those people. No matter how hard I try.

I'm female, but I'm the bad husband you always read about on social media. Thankfully I live alone and I only create problems for myself.

Crashing out after getting a haircut

Does anyone else crash out after getting their hair cut? I told myself not to do it this time. I always hate my hair when it's cut. It never looks good. I told myself not to expect to like and just to move on, but I washed and dried it at home and it looks awful. And I just started crying and crying.

I sat for hours getting highlights and I was so uncomfortable and bored. But my hair is darker underneath so the way she layed it I've got my dark hair showing sticking out at the bottom and it looks stupid. What's the point of wasting my time and money for the highlights and tint and cutting it cut to show the bit it's not blended with?

How did she think that looked ok? She dried it in a stupid flippy way as well.,.so I didn't notice in the salon.

I'm always upset that the hairdresser thinks that it's ok to make me look like that. And charge me money for it.

I hate that it costs so much money for something I don't want.

It doesn't matter what I say to the hairdresser or what photos I show them I always end up with a horrible cut.

I go to so many different hairdressers and it's the same. I give them several tries to get to know my hair and it never gets better.

I hate wasting money. I hate that I have to cut my hair. It's so thick that I can't cope with it long, but hairdressers can't work with thick hair. I grew up poor so never went to the hairdresser growing up. It's a huge deal for me.

I found someone who colours my hair really well to cover the greys, but she mangles it when she cuts it. I spent hundreds of pounds and I hate it. But you have to get your hair cut there if you get it coloured.

The manager offered to fix it after I left an upset review. But I don't want to go back. I deleted the review.

Haircuts are just such a hell for me. I still feel miserable and it's been 2 days.

I just feel like I'm the ugly girl who doesn't understand how to look good. No matter how hard I try I'll never be normal. And I try so hard and I still look like a loser freak.

I tried going to more expensive hairdressers, but I don't get better haircuts than at the cheaper places. But cheaper places play horrible pop music and products that smell chemically, which makes it even more of a sensory hell.

I'm not pretty enough just to get a buzz cut.

Are you still able to use tampons?

I did a quick search and can't see this question being directly asked.

I went for a smear test yesterday and the nurse discovered a small cut. I think I did it when I caught my skin inserting a tampon. I was a little itchy and had some spotting, but didn't put 2 and 2 together. It had almost healed up I think, but the speculum split it open again. My goodness it stung!

This has never happened before. I'm single and footloose and fancy free so don't need to worry about penetrative sex, plus I've been really ill since catching COVID and just not interested, so haven't found out if I'm now prone to skin splitting that way.

But I'm thinking I might have to avoid tampons and see how I get on. Is this common? I haven't read about tampons causing issues before. I really find them my easiest to use period product and will be sad to let them go.

The house across the road has a rodent deterrent beeper

I'm going to go insane. It's so loud, I don't know how they can live with it. It makes a high pitched whine every 30 seconds or so.
