[Discussion] Trying to help my dad, struggling artist, will my idea help you?
Hey everyone, I am the son of a struggling artist, trying to help him struggle less, and I might have stumbled on something that could help him and more artists too.
But I want to make sure other artists find it useful and valuable so I am asking here.
Quick background: I’m 31 y/o, I’m luckily well off, I quit my job in big tech and built a lifestyle business around tech and marketing for myself.
My dad (57 years) is a great person, intelligent, well spoken, just really bad at technology, sales and understanding how to make, keep and grow money.
In my attempt to connect more with my father, I thought a great way would be by finding common ground. So I thought I would try to solve his money problems through marketing (which I love) by him making money from art (which he loves).
So we brainstormed, laughed, thought and shared ideas until we came up with creating a website where he could painlessly and easily upload events to host paint-and-wine type of workshop sessions, perfect for people on date nights, friend outings, or just someone who wants a hobby or introduction in art and so on.
As we did that he told me about his artist friend in the neighboring city who was going through a rough time too, and that he would love to host sessions like that too, to support himself and earn some extra income.
Then I thought, there’s probably a bunch of artists in a similar situation across art mediums (digital and physical). What if we could help them by solving the hardest parts of getting started?
We identified what he said was the most annoying and hard parts for him:
-Creating and managing a website
-Creating bookable events
-Handling payments
-Handling booking admin
-Having a place to sell his art
-Having somewhere to display his portfolio
I already solved all of that for him specifically.
And now the real question for you.
Would it interest you as well to:
-Have a website with your profile & portfolio
-Create bookable events
-Allow clients to pay by card for your art or sessions
The mission is basically to make it as easy as possible for artists to make a living from their craft.
If yes please let me know!
And thank you for reading until here 🙏
Here’s the website I built for him (and might open up for anyone to join if people like the idea), would love feedback, thoughts and ideas to improve or add to the idea. You can change language to English in the menu 😊
