Mommy and Me Group

My parish is fortunate to have a lot of families and there seems to be a need for some sort of mommy and me group. All too often moms of littles get left out of things unless they have care for their kiddos.

Does your parish offer something for mom’s that includes children? If so, what does that look like? Is it a Bible study, praying the rosary or something else? Do you hire some of the older parish kids to babysit the younger kids or just let them play? Is there any enrichment for the kids during this time?

Thank you!!

Question

I recently saw an ad talking about how a lot of eczema is staph aureus infection but then the good bacteria is never repaired on the skin surface so it just eventually comes back. This leads me to my question, when I had my last c-section they had to give me antibiotics via IV. My hand eczema cleared up for weeks. The longest I have ever experienced peace since getting diagnosed with dyshidrosis. When I asked my derm about this his response was just, yeah sometimes antibiotics clear it up. I asked why and he didn’t really say anything.

Now I’m wondering if there’s a connection there?

How do you know if you’re experiencing dyshidrosis vs steroid cream withdrawal?

I’ve been dealing with dyshidrosis since I conceived my 2nd child nearly 4 years ago. With each pregnancy it gets worse and worse. I’ve been seeing a dermatologist this entire time but all he will do is give me a steroid cream and when that one quits working they up the dosage.

I was recently proscribed their strongest steroid cream and then told to follow up with tacrolimus. Here’s the thing, I’m pregnant and the insert for the tacrolimus says that there has been no studies to confirm or deny the safety of topical tacrolimus in pregnancy but you’re definitely not supposed to use it breastfeeding. So obviously I did not use it, I’d rather be miserable than potentially harm my child.

This leads me to my original question. I had 1 week to the day of clear, smooth, glorious skin and then… my fingers became so swollen I couldn’t wear my wedding ring which has never happened before. The swelling made me think, is this steroid cream withdrawal?? Has this BEEN steroid cream withdrawal this whole time?

First 3 photos are before the use of steroid creams vs last photo of my hand currently. I can’t even bend my fingers they hurt so bad.

Edited to add: I notice most talk about flare ups. I no longer have flare ups. This past year has been one consistent, never ending flare up.

Sugar rush peach & black Hungarian

What are your favorite ways to use these two peppers? I have a ton of each so preservation methods/ hot sauce welcomed too! This photo was my first harvest of them and it didn’t even make a dent in the ones left on the plant!

Rain didn’t happen while I was gone

I was gone for 6 days. Forecast was calling for 4 days of rain while we were gone. I was even getting thunderstorm notifications. Obviously not happy to see what was once lush sugar rush peach pepper plants look so sad.

Will they recover or should I pull all the peppers? Watering them as I type this.

No, I don’t want lectures about drip water systems. I have some, I just didn’t get to it before we had to leave.

First ever piece of clothing

I made this dress for my 4 year olds frog birthday party. I don’t have a sewing machine so it’s all hand stitched. I was happy with how it came out for being my first piece of clothing! Despite showing excitement at first, my four year old decided not to wear it 😅 So her little sister happily wore it instead!

Edited to say: Thank you everyone for the kind encouragement! What a great community!

Don’t you just love this time of year?

We haven’t had rain in 3 weeks so this is a result of me watering everything daily except the Florida weave. They are on drip. All the work will always be worth it. Such a peaceful place my yard has become! I can’t wait until more of this *hopefully* produces!

How to pot up?

I was gifted this very large peace lily in January after my miscarriage. I would very much like to keep it healthy. I believe it is root bound because I can see some roots through the drainage holes and it seems like such a small pot for such a huge plant.

What soil would you all recommend for something like this? Do these plants like smaller pots? Would I just be incrementally increasing pot size? This is the first peace lily I’ve had. It has not flowered since I’ve had it.

When life gives you a poorly draining pot…make a fountain.

I’ve had this pot for 8 years. I have tried countless times to get the drainage right but it always ends up flooding in our heavy coastal rains. So this year it became a fountain and now the bees, my kids, and myself have this happy little spot in our garden.

Rhyming issues with 100 easy lessons

My kiddo is doing fantastic with the sounds and blending the sounds to make words. We are struggling with the rhyming. She memorizes everything and keeps trying to pull the correct rhyming from memory instead of just rhyming the sound with the word. I cannot get her to understand that we are simply adding the sound to what we’re rhyming with. Do we just keep struggling through this or is there something I could be doing better to help her?

Cold damage?

Dealing with this only on my poblano peppers. It is growing healthy leaves too. We’ve had some nights dip into the 40s which is unusual for us at this point. Is this just cold damage?

Peach and Apple tree help

This peach tree has been unhealthy from year 1 this is currently year 3. The fruit it produces is delicious but it has died halfway back. What can I do or should I just pull it?

This Granny Smith Apple is insane. Every year it puts on crazy new growth and has an awful shape. How on earth do I prune this thing??

This is my 2nd time being sick in two weeks. As soon as I got better…boom sick again. Between my husband and I, someone has been sick every single month since October. We have 3 children aged 3 and under. I am still nursing our youngest, none of them are in daycare or preschool. We eat healthy foods probably about 85% of the time. We exercise 3-4 times a week. Take vitamins. Spend a lot of time outside every day. Wash our hands constantly. What the heck gives? How do we get out of this awful cycle of constant sickness?? Fortunately, out of all these illnesses our kids have only been sick once. It feels like we can’t get back into our good routine because we’re constantly getting kicked on our cans.

All of my black Krim tomatoes have these strange elongated looking tomatoes starting but then also a normal looking tomato. Why? Should I remove the weird ones?

Please excuse my gross hand eczema. Having babies apparently spurred something in my body to give me hand eczema and now I can’t get rid of it 😭
