Come see my work at the Community Board 8 Manhattan Art Show! & if you're an artist, photographer, etc you can apply to sell your work too!✨️🖼🥳✨️

Great news for everyone who loves the arts or just needs some beauty for their apartment! Community Board 8 Manhattan is excited to announce the Fall 2026 Art Show, to be held at James Cagney Place (East 91st Street, between Second and Third Avenues) on Saturday, October 3rd (rain date Sunday, October 4th). There will be paintings, photography, sculptures, etc., from local artists, with all sales proceeds going directly to the creators.

I'll be bringing original paintings, prints, and other items (mugs, mousepads, tote bags, etc) from my store and other artists will have their collections in their areas too. It's a lot of fun especially because each artist has their own unique offering so there's literally something for every aesthetic!

The application deadline to feature your work is September 8th. CB8 anticipates a large number of submissions and are keen to include as many artists as possible. Please note, completing this form is not a confirmation of acceptance into the show as there may not be the space to accommodate everyone. You will receive a confirmation email on completion, and a confirmation of attendance once the deadline has passed and CB8 has had the opportunity to review all applicants.

To sign up to show your work, visit: https://www.cb8m.com/event/43313/

Or check out the flyer in this post. Hope to see you there and thank you for supporting local NYC artists! ✨️🦋💖🖼✨️🎉🫂💙✨️🎊

P.S. Feel free to DM me for more info/any questions 🙌🌟✨️

The best feeling ever! This piece from my imagination is decorating someone's home 🥲

I am bursting with joy! This was the largest painting I've ever done for someone and it took layers and layers to finish, plus bottles and bottles of water and a lot of patience. The gold was shimmery and some of the blues also had a metallic effect so that added a sparkle to the surface which really made the whole piece glow.

I was intimidated in the beginning because a canvas this huge was a first. (The biggest I'd ever worked with was a 24"h x 36"w.) I kept pouring and letting the paint dry to a certain point and then poured more to really build up the texture. It was also necessary to add a lot of water to get a flowing consistency that upon drying made the shapes into some recognizable images (for example, a whale fin or a comet, at least that's what I see lol).

Anyway, it took weeks of labor but it finally came together and shipped safely and is now actually decorating someone's home! It's such a positive and powerful experience to witness content in the imagination physically manifest as a part of someone else's life.

Thanks for reading and celebrating with me! Cheers to more decorating ✨️🥳🙌✨️

Can we start a thread to help each other find jobs/gigs/opportunities?

Because the market is brutal right now 🫠 I was working in Midtown in the corporate beauty world only to be part of mass layoffs last year. I've made it to the final round of grueling interviews only to get ghosted, the position put on hold (indefinitely), or passed over for an internal hire. It's been more months than I want to admit and the stress and tension are heavy from moment to moment. I've got my paintings (I'm an artist) and thankfully the commissions have helped a lot, but it's not enough to let me breathe and have peace of mind or catch up to my peers. It feels like living on borrowed time!

I'm curious if others are enduring the same experience, maybe through mass layoffs too? Either way, maybe we could start a thread to empower each other to find jobs, gigs, and opportunities here in the city.

I can and would love to help anyone struggling to find work or openings by sharing my connections. I'm friends with a few talent acquisition managers in the beauty world (one is at Estee Lauder corporate headquarters in Manhattan) and will gladly pass along info to any recruitment pros I know as well. I'm coming from People Ops and would love to grow in roles like People Ops, HR, office management, employee experience, EA/PA, recruitment (coordinator), and any other people & culture roles but am open to other possibilities and opportunities.

Thanks for reading and sending strength to all those fighting these invisible battles ✨️🙏✨️🙌✨️

Found my passion for life in painting and it's been my saving grace ever since ✨️🥲🎨🖼✨️

Thank you for browsing 🎨🙏✨️

In terms of my journey, I started painting after losing my job and housing in the pandemic and have kept going ever since. I paint from the unconscious, spontaneously, without foresight into the final result or ultimate subiect matter so almost all these pieces have different paintings underneath. I'lI put on music and enter flow consciousness and allow experiences and other (psychological) material to express itself from my brain, down my arms, and through my fingers onto the canvas. A lot of water goes onto each canvas and half the time my conscious mind thinks, "This is a mistake. This isn't going anywhere. What the heck is this even supposed to be?!" I'lI stop and let it dry and return hours or days or sometimes even weeks later to restart the process.

The pieces also have themes of development and ambiguity of form, probably because of my fascination with and passion for evolutionary biology and how one species gives way to a new one; how every being is a becoming since it is always already under pressure (natural selection, for example) to evolve. My mind merges images of butterflies and plants and birds into hybrids of ambiguous symbols in many of these probably for this reason. The imagery becomes a fusion of my love for both the arts and the sciences.

The paintings also almost always have shimmering or glittering lights (such as stars) which to me represent points of clarity and focus, moments of understanding that guide the mind toward a goal or destination. Think of the phrase, "Follow your North Star." Or think of how in ancient times the stars guided boats and ships at sea.

Anyway, I never got to attend art school (too expensive and parents wouldn't support it), but painting transitional and developmental images is a journey and a practice that brings me tremendous fulfillment and has become my life's passion, my saving grace. I hope you enjoyed the virtual tour and wish you success in the pursuit of your passions too ✨️🖼🙏✨️

Some of the magical items I've designed (and my friends modeling because I'm camera shy 🥲😆)

It took about 12 months to design over 280 products from phone cases, mugs, mousepads, laptop sleeves, organic cotton tote bags, backpacks, and beyond. Since I'm brand new to the business world, I didn't have a budget for models or equipment for photoshoots, so a few sweet friends offered to empower me by modeling. It was a lot of fun and very fulfilling 😊 I'll be expanding into a pet collection soon and of course have the prints and t-shirt collections. It's been a wild adventure of trial and error 😅 Thank you for browsing and exploring! ✨️🥳🙌✨️💖✨️

A shiny object? Why, yes! Some of my favorite shimmering pieces so far ✨️🖼✨️😊✨️

Just sharing some of the sparkly pieces I've made so far! Most of these were commissions but some were just for the love of all that shines ✨️😊💖✨️ Each one was acrylic on canvas and went through multiple layers as the imagery developed and emerged into the final result. Thank you for exploring these imaginary worlds with me! ✨️🖼🥳🙌✨️

Finished these sparkly fantasy worlds and wanted to show you ✨️😊💖✨️

These are all acrylic on canvas paintings in various sizes. They were each painted for someone so these images are just shared for fun. I love anything that shimmers and sparkles so these were very rewarding and satisfying to make ✨️🥳🎨✨️

A lot of emotion/energy finds its way to the surface of my mind during the process and often a feeling of loss, nostalgic sadness, and emptiness comes up. Maybe because these images represent places and experiences that will never be except inside consciousness; experiences that only reside in imagination and offer a lot more peace and tranquility than the turbulence and trauma of the material/physical world.

The first two images are a couple of paintings I just finished that were commissioned by a trans woman to represent the complexity and depth of her journey. The waterfalls of color represent the fluid nature of Nature; the butterflies represent metamorphosis and the journey of developing oneself; and the stars represent points of clarity that light one's path toward a goal or destination. She gave me free rein to paint whatever imagery emerged from my subconscious mind as long as the painting had the trans flag colors. The result is what you see now and thankfully she loves it. Whew!

Wasn't allowed to be queer or an artist growing up. Now I'm free to be both ✨️🖼🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✨️

First, thank you for reading.

Growing up I would spend weeks at a time sketching dozens and dozens of architectural floorplans of imaginary homes (that I secretly wanted to live in lol). Fantasy worlds were my escape and self-soothing technique from the pressures, demands, and chaos of my immediate family and larger external world, including homophobic parents and classmates.

Everything was intense and no one was helping me navigate it, but the worlds on paper were a relief, an unburdening where I could be free and feel at home. By the time I was a teenager, I had moved on to painting on canvas (still alone in my room). I took an art class senior year and the teacher asked if she could show my work to the class. What an honor! That Friday she was holding up students' work and rating them. She got to me and gave it a 1, the lowest score, and said, "This is an example of someone who would never be accepted to an art school." That crushed me so I gave up art for years.

I started painting again during the pandemic to both process the emotional turmoil and feel a sense of calm and control as the external world collapsed. The paintings you see are some of what have come to my consciousness since then and reflect the personal journey I've been on to accept and love myself, including my queer identity.

In terms of the process, I paint from the unconscious, spontaneously, without foresight into the final result or ultimate subject matter so almost all these pieces have different paintings underneath. I'lI put on music and enter flow consciousness and allow experiences and other (psychological) material to express itself from my brain, down my arms, through my fingers, and onto the canvas. A lot of water goes onto each canvas and half the time my mind thinks, "This is a mistake. This isn't going anywhere. What the heck is this even supposed to be?!" I'lI stop and let it dry and return hours or days or sometimes even weeks later to restart the process. I get frustrated easily and want to quit.

A lot of emotion/energy finds its way to the surface of my mind during the process and often a feeling of loss and nostalgic sadness comes up. This is probably because these are worlds that will never truly exist; worlds that I wish existed (maybe that I could even live in or experience at least once); worlds that offer a lot more peace and safety and meaning than the real one often does, and that discrepency, that gap between what is and what could be provokes intense feelings.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy these pieces and that they bring you a moment's peace in the chaos and stress of living in "the real world." And I hope as you navigate the complexity of your identity you continue to find joy in whatever your interests are, in whatever may not make sense to outsiders but regulates your nervous system and makes sense for you. Art does that for me. It's been my saving grace. ✨️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈✨️🖼✨️
