Pleasant urban walks in Central LA?

(Apologies if Central LA isn't actually a term used by locals - I'm looking for recommendations in the neighborhoods between like Griffith Park and Downtown)

Hi! I'll be staying in LA soon and would love to spend some time roaming around on foot.

From Google Maps I'm having trouble distinguishing which streets are fun and pleasant (have cool local businesses, interesting things to see, established sidewalks and crosswalks, maybe some tree coverage) vs. borderline highways (sidewalks randomly disappearing, have to cross several-lane streets without crosswalk, or otherwise feel unsafe for pedestrians; the only businesses are malls or strip malls of national chains).

I'm open to walking in parks some of the time too, but not really interested in full on hikes.

Does anyone have recommendations on which specific streets or neighborhoods I should consider walking around?

Laundromat bitches, do any of you have laundry containers/bags you love?

A bit of a random request, but I just can't seem to find a good way to transport my laundry to and from the laundromat. Right now I have large bags with handles which work well for small amounts of laundry, but with a large amount the bags get very heavy and difficult to carry by their handles. I suppose my ideal setup would be something that could be wheeled or carried with one hand, and I'm not finding much by searching around online. Does anyone have a setup that works well for them?

Hopefully it's okay to post this here even though it's technically not specific to SF — most discussions I can find online about laundry containers are not optimized for city and laundromat life.

Full list of shows the Jet Lag crew have appeared on?

So far I'm aware of these:

  • Various RHAP episodes
  • Various Lateral episodes
  • Tom Scott's video in which they chased each other around London
  • Dirty Laundry
  • Karat's "Group Therapy"
  • Ludwig's "Unpaid Intern"
  • Michelle's video about sailing an old ship (Sam only)

Are there others?

Has anyone else been getting way lower views/likes this week or is it something I did?

I typically get a couple thousand views (with occasional ones that get tens or hundreds of thousands of views) on my videos and I posted on on Monday which performed normally. I've since tried posting 3 videos across yesterday and today that got almost no views or engagement - like not even 50 views and like 1-5 likes.

I deleted each of them after about an hour and I tried reposting one of the videos a day later - I'm unsure if all of that deleting and reposting is now making the issue worse, like tiktok sees that I'm using the app unusually and reducing my reach or something? Also Monday night I couldn't sleep so I was editing a bunch of videos that I saved as drafts at like 3am - that was also unusual use of tiktok for me so idk if that's relevant at all.

Also to note, I did the account check in settings and I'm in good standing.

Does anyone know if there's anything I can do get things back to normal? Or if the answer is waiting, how long should I wait before posting again?

Salon or nail tech who does this technique? (see pic)

Hey SFBWT, does anyone know of somewhere in the city to get a manicure with this pearlescent/opalescent look - I think some call it "cat eye" nails? I've been seeing this pop up on pinterest but I'm unsure how to begin figuring out where to go locally for this look. TIA for any tips!

Edit: thanks to some helpful advice in the comments, I realize I'm actually looking for "glass bead" rather than "cat eye"!

Upload Spotify Fitness class

Spotify recently released a new Fitness "genre" that includes various workout classes. Does anyone know if there's a way to integrate this with Strava so that Strava automatically reads my Spotify activity and logs a workout when I take these classes? TIA!

When asked about salary expectations, should I provide the minimum amount I'd accept or my ideal amount (which is the top of the range)?

I have an interview tomorrow and I expect salary might come up. I already know the salary range of the role from the job description.

Ideally I'd like to make the top of the listed range, which is similar to what I made at my previous job. However realistically I would have no problem with a bit lower - about 85% between the bottom and top of the listed range. I'm quite interested in this role and company so I'd like to do what I can to help my chances, but realistically could not accept much lower than that.

I'm unsure whether saying I want the top of their range would come across as confident and experienced or if it would make them less likely to pick me if most other candidates ask for lower in the range? I'm also unsure whether just transparently stating "the minimum I'd accept would be X but ideally I'm looking for Y" would be helpful or if it would make me come across as uncertain/unconfident and/or they'd just ignore the higher number anyways?

Does anyone have advice on how to approach this? TIA!

Edit: this is a tech/software company, in case that's relevant

Most effective at-home hair removal device for reddish brown hair?

I'm aware laser and IPL are less effective on red hair, however my hair (including the body hair I'd like to remove) is more dark red/brown, not really ginger/orange. So I'm hopeful it'll be dark enough against my pale skin, but I want to invest in the most promising device on the market, regardless of price point. Please let me know if you have recommendations and thank you in advance!

Favorite subtle gradual tanning lotion?

I'm looking for a subtle tanning lotion that will look natural on a super pale gal!

I'm hoping for something that will have an effect over time with consistent use, but isn't so strong that applying it imperfectly once will result in blotches/streaks (when using a more standard self tanner in the past, I felt like this was always a gamble even when I really tried to apply it evenly 🥲)

I found a few threads about this and it seems like folks liked Jergens, but as those discussions were from a few years ago I wanted to ask again in case anything better is on the market now!

Why did it take everyone on May 10, 1996 13-14 hours to reach the summit?

I just watched "Everest: Beyond the Limit" and all of the climbers make it to the summit from camp IV in 6-10 hours. In one episode, a few climbers get stuck in a major bottleneck at the Hillary Step but despite that they reach the summit in about 7 hours. Another climber is depicted as significantly slower than the rest of the team and technically missed her planned cutoff time to turn around at the Hillary Step (9 hours) but she keeps going and makes it to the summit in 10 hours.

I've also watched Ryan Mitchell's videos and I believe he summited in 5 or 6 hours, although maybe now it's easier given the changes to the Hillary Step in recent years? Not sure.

I'm re-reading the 1996 disaster timeline and I'm shocked that all the members of Fischer's and Hall's teams took 13-14 hours to reach the summit, even those described as stronger members of the group like Krakauer and Boukreev. I know they ran into bottleneck delays as well and there was the whole issue of lines not being fixed properly, but it seems the latter only caused an hour delay.

I'm confused how their summit time was hours slower than even the slowest climbers from other expeditions, even double the time of some. Can anyone help me understand?

SFBTW, on which dating apps have you been having the most luck lately? (if any lol 🥲) I've only ever used Hinge — is that still the main one most people are using?
